    So if we have blastocysts frozen in Alabama, they are our children. Can we take them home and put them in our own freezers? Can we claim them as dependents on our child tax credit?

    • @x.s5162
      @x.s5162 5 месяцев назад +444

      They wouldn't even have to be in your home freezer. If you pay more than 50% of the childs bills you get to claim them(aka bording schools and hospitals living children count) so since you are paying for 100% of their care(paying for their upkeep in the freezer) you get to claim them as dependents.
      Its going to be fought but law wize the wording is there to probably win in court or revoke the other dumb bill saying they are living kids. Like the pregnant lady in texas driving in carpool lane (2+ people in car, children count) and getting tickets but fighting them because shes pregnant and a fetus past 6weeks was deemed a living child equal to a birthed one.

      It's because society is wrestling with itself to figure out where to draw the line on these things. Many people want to stop abortions, as those fetuses could grow into babies and then adults if no medical intervention is performed. The stance that some people took led to all embryos being considered full people, which ended up causing issues for IVF and therefore issues for family planning.
      This isn't a cut and dry issue between two opposing viewpoints, but rather a very complex ethical and moral discussion between millions of people simultaneously.

To avoid hypocrisy blood, bone marrow, plasma and organ donations should be mandatory. Sure there are risks but it would save so many lives. Upon death people's organs should automatically be donated despite the person's wishes or religious beliefs. All these options are pro life, debatably safer than pregnancy, yet we don't force people. The original law came about due to a woman who didn't work at the clinic got into the room where the embryos were frozen and she proceeded to take some out, froze her hand, dropped the embryos, and destroyed them. The couple sued the clinic and since embryos weren't considered people, the court made them 'people' so they families could sue to clinic. The way the new law was written it blocks the couples from suing the clinic who should be held liable since they didn't protect access to the embryos enough that their possible children were lost against their wishes. The law should have been written in a better way so that they still could have sued the clinic for their loss. We need a justice system that protects people over profits
