The DS seems to essentially bitcrush everything, so the harsh digital sound is definitely part of things. There's also the likelihood of a specific scale being forced on everything you make, which means even random assortments of notes tend to sound at least acceptable.
I loved the Warioware series and creative games, but I passed on this because it was kind of late in the DS’s life and I had a feeling the servers wouldn’t last for very long. I kind of wish I’d picked it up anyway
I mean there actually is a sequel to Mario paint that nobody knows because it was JP exclusive!! I forgot what it was called but it was released on the N64
@@lambybunny7173 yes but it's less obscure as a Mario Paint sequel because it's a direct one and a fun factoid about a failed peripheral! Warioware D.I.Y. was in no way advertised as a sequel to it but totally is one
warioware diy is legit how i got started making music. when it came out and i was like 10 years old, i knew i wanted to make electronic music someday but was terrified of ever using a DAW cause they looked so complicated. this game helped ease me into the concept of making music digitally and i may not be making music today if i didn't play it! so wonderful and nostalgic to see that you also remember its existence and are having fun making music the same way i used to spend hours doing. (PS i would totally eat garlic jam by the spoonful)
reading this comment has actually inspired me to find this game and try it out, I've always liked the idea of getting into making digital music, but those boards are definitely intimidating!
Of all the places to go to for a new medium, a semi-obscure DS game was not what I expected. I'm also honestly surprised they let anyone say "apeshit" in that game, unless that's just edited.
@@everydaylouie Apparently they did censor a bit of content in localization, though. Strange where their priorities were. ruclips.net/video/5Ck_GLxciJI/видео.html
Man warioware diy is SO much fun! These little sound bites of chopping boards, clicks, and fun synthy blips are so wonderfully put together. I'm definitely gonna mess around with the game again :)
I just had a vasectomy, been sitting around at home playing nintendo on painkillers for the last 8 days, I definitely deserved this. thank u louie for those fummmmnnnnkyass tunes 😎
Maaaan loved this game as a kid, mainly because it was technically my first DAW lol. I still credit it with being the thing that got me into music making! Glad to see it start getting some attention from various people lately!
I was about 7 when i first got this game, I remember finding the music maker and not even knowing what an instrument was and just making shit, pretty much sounded like jazz if you were on acid
I'm literally crying, this game is everything for me, i love it so dearly i spent so much time on it this quarentine. I LOVE wario ware and ur channel, thank you for this, it's perfect.
The alternate universe where we received a Wario Land 5 for the DS and the soundtrack absolutely slapped. Huge props for the dedication and quality pumped into every track! Man, I’ve been thinking of getting into music, and maybe using DIY as a tool somehow… perhaps it could work after all!
Oh oh my gosh!!! I am so extremely happy to see this. WarioWare DIY is VERY close to my heart and I love seeing people make stuff with it so many years after it released.
Massive respect for both this existing and trying out non-common time, I remember trying to do 3/4 and desperately trying to keep track of where all the measures landed
Bassball was great, by my favorite is High Five! Its crazy how he managed to get 5/4 time into a medium that only supports 4/4. I imagine that was a nightmare to work with.
I'd love if somebody made a 10 minute dance fish, because that was just an absolute BOP! in the meantime, I'm happy to watch the whole video just for that one song, cause the whole thing is a bop!
4:34 They use this exact sound in Super Mario Maker 2. To be honest, they probably have even more sounds in common, but this one caught my ear. Edit: 8:06 Oh my goodness. It's 5/4 and it's beautiful.
hearing all the weird voices and sound effects really takes me back to when I played this game, though I was never skilled enough to make any tunes on it. Great work here!

To me, they were just silly sounds that I ignored because they didn't seem to fit. Just goes to show how incredible Louie is at making music. Astounding to me that he can look at things I always ignored, like the alien scream, or even the CRICKET instrument, and make them feel like vital aspects of the song.
Man, this game means so much to me. It got me into gamedev, coding and music production when I was an impressionable young tween. Wish that more people had experienced it... actually, we should get this game back in the public eye. Bring back Warioware DIY!

Oh hell yeah! WarioWare DIY was one of my favorite games as a kid! I always wanted to get into making games and this game was just perfect for me. Short little minigames that were easy to make but there was just enough complexity so that you could make something cool and interesting. The tools they had were an absolute joy to use. I still pop the cartridge into my DS every once in a while to check out the games, music, and comics I had made. This is great, thanks for making this
sure beats what I used to do, which was to take the premade songs, change all the instruments to the 8-bit set and make up a fake game series for them to be the soundtrack to
the range of this album!! these are wonderful, i have sooooo much nostalgia for that game!!! at first i had to blindly navigate the japanese version because it took so long to get localized, which was possible because of the amazingly tactile and living UI of the game. it got me both into making games and music and i spent so much time creating things with it, let alone really getting started on youtube thanks to it. I remember having fun handling 6/8 songs with it, sorting out a 5/4 time must've been something! I love how you're using the player's feature to complete the tracks and taking advantage of the looping and the sfx to use the beginning of some tracks as an outro. The speed slider was my absolute favorite thing to play around with so the way you did it for bassball leaves my jaw on the floor, absolutely outstanding
the best part about warioware diy is that no matter what you make on it, it always sounds like a ds game soundtrack and that's amazing

i think i'm doing the same type of thing with beepbox currently, it's just so easy to plonk notes there and have them sound at least decent
Genuinely sounds like something the game's designers would make. Just awesome, great work
All the songs in this game are made using the game software! It sounds actually better!

Unironically the best way to make a good level in mario maker 2. Limit yourself to a "palette" of blocks and yoy got yourself a good level!
honestly, this is my philosophy with most kinds of art, and with some stuff like building teams in pokemon. limitations lead to creativity :)
