This was an amazing performance! I just about died when Sharon started pogo-dancing! They also played the song "Angels" at the same show, and have an official live video of it.
Sharon den Adel's voice is incredible! Hard to believe voices like her's fits with metal, but when you hear them together, it works great. Bands like Within Temptation & Nightwish never cease to amaze Another great singer you might check out is Chuck Ragan (Hot Water Music & solo work). You mentioned in this video how parts of this song was like the calm before the storm of going to war. Chuck's voice is what you wanna hear when running into battle. Raspy, but powerful, he's got the voice of a lion. I'd suggest "The Boat" or "Nothing Left to Prove" (Solo songs ~ Cardinal Sessions performances are amazing) or "Drag My Body" (Hot Water Music). So true. Within Temptation has for many many years been my favourite band ever, but that's not to say I don't also love someone like Evanescence. Last December I went to World's Collide (Within Temptation ft. Evanescence) concert and the thing that really stood out to me was the gap between the two. As in... Evanescence is everything you'd expect live from a really big international artist, but Sharon den Adel just fries your brain every time she opens her mouth. It's pure insanity that it's a live sound you're hearing from a person in the room with you.

There is one thing you can count on it is that she always sings live. She absolutely hates playback and has turned down a lot of invitations to tv shows because of that. So far i have only seen two of her performances that she playbacked and did that so blatantly that nobody would ever mistake it for a live performance. :-) one was for "top of the pops" and the other one was a german program called "Sommer garten". Let give you some background information to the band. They are a Dutch symphonic metal band that started the same time as Nightwish 1996. They are considered one of the pioneers of female fronted symphonic metal bands. The lead vocalist is Sharon den Adel who founded the band together with her partner Robert Westerholt. She applied, and was admitted, to the conservatory for opera training but did not like it so she changed over to the arts-academy within her first semester. There she studied clothing design and management and completed it successfully. She has mainly used these skills in designing outfits used on stage. They have had a rather successful run in clubs for couple of years where their performances were constantly sold out. Because of that they got invited to the biggest festival in the Netherlands "Pink Pop". Even though they had a very early start the concert was a huge success. They released their single "Ice Queen"shortly after expecting it to be very successful but it did not do much until somewhere in December that year a dj played it on the radio. Suddenly the song shot up in the charts and even took the number 1 spot. Now other countries started to pay attention. They have many great songs to chose from and practically any song will do but my favorite song of them is "Say my name". How cool is that, that was the song that introduced you to the band and that you still remember a part of the song. The song was never released on any of the studio albums but as a bonus track on the single release of the song called "Angels" . The song is about her (Sharon den Adel) grandmother suffering from Alzheimers and her desperate attempts to try to connect with her one more time. Her delivery in this live registration is spot on except for a slight emotional tremor in her voice that makes it all the more beautiful. The audience is also fully aware of the uniqueness of this song being performed because it so quiet that you would have been able to hear pin drop.Quiet an achievement in a sold-out arena of 20.000 people. I have seen this woman perform four times in concert and countless live registration online she is usually very relaxed and cheerful during her concerts. During this concert she starts out that way but if you watch her carefully you can see her tense up the closer she get to this song and relaxes again after the song has been done. This clearly is very personal song to her. She must have been satisfied with the results because the next year she performed it again during their acoustic theater tour. But this time she was barely able to complete the song and had tears in her eyes. Sharon is my absolute favorite vocalist and the only one to top Floor for me ( even-though i will agree that Floor is technically the more versatile vocalist). There is just a specific tone in her voice that just clicks with me. The best concerts of the band are 2 shows they did being supported by a full symphonic orchestra and choir. The most famous one is with Metropole Orchestra in Rotterdam called the Black symphony. Try giving "angels", "supernova", and/or "memories" a listen I'm betting you'll fall in love with those as well. Or if you want to check out one of their heavier songs you can't go wrong with "Mother Earth".

Say my Name is a bonus song on the album "The Silent Force." Be careful though. Different versions of the album have different bonus songs, though they're all good. I love all of Within Temptations albums, but Silent Force is definitely a good place to start.
