I saw him live once at a time long before I was into jazz and instrumental music. Little did I know the genius I was witnessing! Moral of the story never take for granted concerts you might be attending for you may be witnessing something really sublime that only years later will you understand or appreciate

I got a guitar lesson from Larry back in '75 at the Gorham Hotel in NYC. I still have "Birdfingers" written out on paper by him. The whole story is pretty hilarious how it all happened and how gracious he was. This version of "She's Leaving Home" is amazing. My fav Beatles song. Thank you for everything Larry from the kid from the Bronx. 8))

Nice sentiment, but he is dead. You're "sure he is happy", while others wonder about parties and jams during "the afterlife". How childish we are. Realists know dead is dead, and you better get your jollies now, because there is one ride per person; no repeats.

With the exception of Tommy Emmanuel, nobody since Lenny Breau has ever used false harmonics this brilliantly.
What a great performance of one of my favorite Beatles tunes.
    And then...
He goes into a sort of "fantasie impromptu" of 'Trane's signature masterpiece.
(Notice how, at 5:01, he makes adjusting his tuning part of the performance.)
God, I'm gonna miss this guy.

After playing his Ovation Adama , he finished by picking up the electric guitar on stage and blows us all away with a great solo . Saw again at least six more times . Once in Houston TX in the early eighties. Final time seeing him was at the IMAC in Huntington NY . The way he played harmonics on his acoustic seemed magical to me that night . I could go on......

I met Larry and the members of the 11th House Alphonse Mouzon and Mike Mandel backstage at the University of Miami in Coconut Grove back in '73..He was a super-cool,nice-guy and he told me that he used to skip-classes at the University of Seattle or the like and practice to Wes Montgomery records...Alphonse still had his funky-snakeskin-boots and the trumpet-player was also happening..They were using rented-equipment and they still smoked...Alphonse was high-energy as hell and was playing with the butt-end of the drumsticks, instead of the tips..He had a super-small-kit and they were great live..My next-door-neighbor was jealous of me and had a car back then and 2 years later took-off without me to see Coryell's 11th House and Return To Forever at the University of Florida in Gainesville back in '75 and they had their own equipment at that gig..Alphonse had his clear-Fibes-Double-Base-Drum-Kit and I am sick that I missed that gig..a friend of mine in Florida recorded the '73 University of Florida gig..I was wondering if there was anyone out there with the Gainesville: University of Florida gig on tape? I would gladly trade for this as I somehow missed this gig as I was 18 at the time and didn't drive at this time..

I just started to play in 1990/1991 and Wanted to lear Zep, Hendrix, Floyd, Cream et al. I always thought it was Steely Dan a couple years later which got me headed toward Fusion and Jazz. But then I remeber the Seville Expo 1991 and Larry Coryell and Stanley Clarke playing "School Days" and that was the moment I knew I wanted to go beyond Blues Rock (which I still love). Never did get that White Les Paul Custom like he was playing.
