Back to those untrimmed ATC videos. Thanks to those Australian controllers who helped me develop this radar software.
What’s the radar software?
It has been a long time since I last flew to Sydney to watch my wife compete in the 2000 Sydney Games but I remember after hours upon hours of flying over ocean we could suddenly see we were flying over the harbor. I could clearly see the Opera House and then made a slow turn over the Harbor Bridge and flew right over the Olympic Stadium which was all lit up with the torch burning before landing in Sydney. After travelling for over 30 hours from North Carolina in the middle seat in economy in the screaming baby section it turned out to be a fabulous arrival in Australia.
Oof I hear you about those AUS flights from basically anywhere in the West. Sounds like a beautiful approach tho. Congrats on the Olympics!
i don't often comment on videos, but here is my unsolicited 2c - i live just across the water from syd airport. i get to hear the planes from my home, and love getting to see them in the sky when i go for walks, or when i drive alongside the water. despite travelling via air my whole life, ive always had a deep seated fear of flying, however, since moving here, my proximity to the airport had ignited a curiosity within me. started using fr24, listening to atc, and going to the planespotting areas. i dunno how to explain the quiet fascination i have.
we can move people around our incredible planet, for one, and for two, we can see and hear it too?? amazing. we love to see it. i've developed a deep appreciation of the work, and immense skill that is required, by everyone involved. this fascination helps me get outside, even during my big depressive episodes. i love seeing the runway lights, or a plane crossing over the tunnel, and the twisty atc tower, all illuminated against a glowing rosy sunset, as i drive home from work.
when it comes to aviation, i am as far removed as it gets. and yet, i love being able to still feel connected to the world around me.
anyhoo! thanks for all your uploads, videos, and work ♥
Perfect balance between informal chat and ridged SOP’s seem to be the standard for Australian ATC.
Wow we are such a laid-back bunch down here :) I live basically 2km from YSSY, I should get the ATC up more often and watch it in real time.
Yesterday a CNS - SYD Virgin flight did 1 wheel landing. Was crazy.
it would have had more than 1 wheel
Very cool & educational! :) Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
English < Australian English < Australian Aviation English 🤣
Like the format and presentation but hard to follow
Leave any questions you may have
can you get a different background?
This is the map and background that the real Australian controllers use
@@VASAviation can they get a different background then?
Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!
Never thought i would be this sort of person honestly but,
FIRST!
🤣🤣🤣
But this was different and cool although I did have a tiny (was mostly ok) bit of trouble keeping track of who was talking to who and what was being said. And without having the silences trimmed my ADHD brain struggled to keep track of what was going on in the bigger picture.
Still enjoyable, and being YSSY didn't hurt either seeing as I'm YBBN 😄 Never personally flown in or out but I'm familiar with the area and the airports layout and general routing.
FIRST.2
