Saw CHAPLIN recently, really enjoyed it. Downey Jr one of his best.

I’m glad they did the movie. I must have seen like 12 times.

Yeah and I am sure the grandson (I am assuming Eugene is Charlie's grandson) of Robert will complain no one is the same as Robert when they make a movie about his life. They should be glad people want to glorify and honor their relative's life - there are plenty of families with people like serial killers to contend with the memory of.

Robert Downey Jr. was fantastic, but the film was very disappointing. Chaplin had an amazing life and career. Really too big for a 2 hour movie. The film spent way too much time on the negatives and the music was horrible. Even Richard Attenborough later said he regretted making this film. Really, there are many films that can be made about Chaplin. And they can include the less impressive aspects of his life.

Attenborough wanted to make a mini-series - the studio countered at a 2.5 hour film. He accepted and did the best he could to truncate Charlie's life into that run time. Attenborough's original vision would have been much more accurate, I believe. That being said, it opened Chaplin up to a whole new audience through RDJ...and the soundtrack is phenomenal!
