Pints with Aquinas family, I come to you today with an urgent prayer request! Early this morning, the rectory of our church was broken into and our priest, Father Stephen Gutgsell was attacked and they are not sure he will make it. If you would please pray for his recovery that would be so appreciated!!

Ask and ye shall receive. Today I thought to myself, “man I need a new Father Pine video in my life for a little shot of edification”

@jamesof7sevenintelligence has nothing to do with coming to know Christ. Look at St Joseph of Cupertino who was barely literate or St Bernadette. God uses the weak things of the world so that no flesh may glory in His sight.

"When we pray to the saints we're not sneaking around God's back, we're entering deeply into God's plan"
That was powerful. I'm in RCIA but haven't really felt compelled to pray to the saints much (other than Mary through the rosary). This was a beautiful way to make me realize why we do it. It's to enter into that communion that is between all in heaven

This was very helpful. I'd been confused about prayer for a while. Like, "Why pray? God will work everything out according to His will?" But Him desiring us to be a part of the process for our betterment is kinda cool

Oh my Lord, the last several minutes of this video, in regards to praying to your mother, is so beautiful! I always feel quite alone when I pray, and I thought that’s just how it is. Thank you and God bless you, Fr.Pine!

I'm so glad you posted this video "as is" despite the camera losing focus for a portion. Rerecording would have been a waste of time. Authentically "good enough". Thank you.

Wow. That was a miracle, granted through the intercession of your mother and the saints. Thank you for sharing that story, Fr. Pine. I praise the Lord!

Thanks for this, as a lifelong Catholic I've heard many different explanations about praying to the Saints, but this was the most clear, and impactful articulation, and it really helped broaden my understanding of this. Thanks again!

I enjoyed hearing about the weird thoughts we have regarding prayer. How about this one since you talked about praying to saints: Sometimes I pray to a saint but then add in a few other saints because I’m not sure the first saint is powerful enough. I know that’s a totally weird thought but I have it. Similarly I think maybe if I pray to a beatified person I might get a miracle because miracles are needed for that person’s canonization. Crazy mind games.

Thank you, Father Pine, for this timely video. This is the information I've been praying to receive. Since you went back to studies, I've been praying for you, by name, every night, in your capacity as a student. I anxiously await to hear how your dissertation went.

This certainly puts a new perspective on things like the angel in Fatima calling people to penance. If I understand correctly from Father Pine's explanation, we're not called to penance to change God's mind, but rather to follow his foreordained plan to keep us from his just wrath.

    • @revelation12_1
      @revelation12_1 10 месяцев назад

Remember that penance and sacrifices are redemptive for ourselves and others. Our Lady said many people go to hell because there is no one to pray and make sacrifices for them. The only reason we are here on this planet is to prepare for eternal life by following the will of God and doing the works that have been prepared for us.

This topic is spot on! I've been thinking about this problem for months or even years, but it was a bit too complex for some priests and other people I talked to. For me it's hard to connect praying for something (for example, finding wife or someone's health getting better) with the premises that God doesn't change, God already has a plan, God's plan is already the best possible because he wants our good and God knows what we want. I need to think through this answer, but it already feels a bit more cohesive than some answers I had before.
I'm still confused about praying for someone's conversion, because this touches the matter of free will, I don't know how to grasp it.
Regarding the matter of time, I believe that Heaven is a domain above time, and we reach there through prayer from a time-constricted domain. So, if I don't know the results of dissertation exam I could pray for the success even if it's already in our past, and it's no worse. These prayers will mix with the past ones in a timeless "soup" of prayers in Heaven... ;) So I will pray for a succesful final :)
Thanks for taking on this topic, Fr. Gregory!

Thank you for the clarification. It’s really frustrating to hear people speak of the intercession of the Saints as some kind of trespass against the Will of God, as if saints have more mercy and love for us than God… It’s an absurd notion, but I think that some people actually believe it.

The wierdest thing that hapend to me, wile praying was once when I started a nevvena asking for something and the minute I started the prayer, I realized that the thing I was asking - I didn't need it. I continuead novenna, but with completely different mindset.

Tnank you, Father Pine! I thought we are NOT supposed to pray to our deceased family members to ask for their intercession unless they were canonized by the Church?

    • @jeffreyfrench6401

You're not allowed to pray for dead people who die in a state of mortal sin. That means you shouldn't pray for dead non-Catholics. If a person dies as a baptized Catholic in the state of grace, you can pray for him. I recommend watching the video “No Prayers or Masses said for Dead Non-Catholics - Papal Teaching”.
1 John 5:16 He that knoweth his brother to sin a sin which is not to death, let him ask, and life shall be given to him, who sinneth not to death. There is a sin unto death: for that I say not that any man ask.

The Church only offers public prayer to canonized saints, but you can pray Individually to deceased family and friends.

@jeffreyfrench6401 The concluding intercession of Vespers often asks for the salvation of all the dead. Here’s today’s prayer:
You sit at the right hand of the father,
      - gladden the souls of the dead with your light.
