Hey great work, just wanted to add a point . Cloud option is not necessary, netdata supports parent- child (multiple) setup. So all child headless netdata agents can stream to single or multiple parents.thus Parent dashboard will show all child metrics in a centralised way.

I was getting excited until the cloud stuff came up. A standalone server cannot alert if it's down. So for monitoring you effectively need the web service, and there are lots of competitors in that space. That doesn't mean it isn't worth investigating, but it just becomes a cost/features comparison vs a lot of entrenched and featureful competition at that point.
We really need a good/modern fully open source solution for this stuff. The grafana ecosystem has all the parts, but alerting is separate, and alerts aren't prebuilt, so you're never going to match what a fleshed out solution can provide.

There is a solution that does not require the cloud account. Choose one server or create only one for it and make it the parent for all the severs and ta-da!

Installing some kind of web server on each server/VM really sounds for me like overkill, especially the part where you need that cloud account to have and overview of everything monitored. What about monitoring other things in the infrastructure like switches, router, printer, firewalls etc ? What about CheckMK RAW edition ? Also based on Nagios but way more modern looking and quite hasslefree to set up.

Guess you are a Dr Who fan but still odd seeing a British Police box on a t-shirt worn by an American. Not sure if you are aware but in the days before two way radio there were many of these boxes in London, they had direct phone link to local police station. The boxes were locked and police officers had a key to unlock. Every so often officers would call in to advise control room of their location. Also boxes had a flashing light if the station wanted an officer to call in for some reason. We take much for granted nowadays with modern communication.

I'm really into Zabbix and Grafana, but netdata locally on each server is quite interesting. How good is it with lxc machines?

Great video about Netdata, already installed it once on a Synology NAS. Now I want to monitor 2 NAS, 2 PVE and a PBS. So should I use Netdata Cloud and can it check the barebones as well as the VMs and (Docker) CTs seperately. That would be great. I also use Uptime Kuma, but has limited functionality.
Thanks so much for your great vids 🙏

I just wish there was a simple, lightweight WebUI to let me monitor my homelab NAS drives. All I want is a quick graphic glance at how full my drives are, and a simple early warning system for impending drive failure without having to read pages of cryptic SMART data. Scrutiny is EXACTLY what I'm looking for, but it seems to be broken now and the dev seems to have abandoned it in the past year. Netdata is pretty, but it's sooooo over-engineered for what I need. It's looking like Netdata is probably the solution I'll go with, but it has so much more crammed into it than I really care to have.

What if I already have a Web service running on the intended server? Say I have a self-hosted GitLab Server installed, will it break anything if I install Netdata on the same machine?

    H❤i Jay,
I love your movies, thanks a lot.
After using Nagios for over 15 years, i switched to CheckMK (spin-off).
    Never looked back.
There is also a free core version, but also a free full version (with limited checks, but fulltime functionality).
    Just my 2 cents.
    Keep Up the good work.
    Greets from NL.
