The iPad is actually growing on me. I’m finding more and more use for it. I like the fact that I can also cast the screen to a separate monitor. That’s the real advantage IMO.

Changed from the last Intel MBP to an iPad Pro 11" at the beginning of 2023. Changed back after christmas to a MacBook Pro with the newest M3 Pro chip in the base configuration.
What i can tell: Think about how u use ur tools in ur daily routine. An iPad can be an extension. It also can be a standalone tool. For me i used it more like a laptop than a tablet. Nearly never used the touch screen. Same goes for the pencil. So for me... the iPad wasn't it.

Have them both and they are both useful depending on what I'm doing. For getting work done and photo editing I prefer the MacBook. For casual use I prefer the iPad.

Not sure if it’s still true, but I know a couple years back a lot of streaming apps were not on the MacOS App Store. The shuts down the possibility of downloading movies locally and watching them while on a flight, etc.

I’ve been on the fence with not going 16in to 14in for a MacBook so I can type more with a smaller computer. I have an iPad but she covered a great point to how it’s just not that fun with the lack of balance on your lap. I know I just need to downsize the computer and use a iPad for iPad things.

I use both, but haven’t updated my iPad Pro 2020 yet, as there is very little reason too. iPad Pro still doesn’t have Xcode yet, neither a limited or full version. Which honestly makes no sense, it’s Apples own product, it’s not third party. The iPad Pros have M series chips and 8 g ram, so if an Air can run it, the iPad Pro could too. I hope they do the 2024 version with it, for me it would be an instant upgrade.
I love the iPad but it hasn’t really improved much at all, yes it has a M1 or M2 but honestly it becomes a why? Even my 2020 can do everything. Only thing i see M series selling point would be a larger AAA gaming library.
CODING IS THE LARGEST ISSUE WITH IPAD PROS.

What you didn’t cover though is whether you are able to connect a second screen to the iPad vs MacBook which you can?

You've to discuss about Ergonomics of using (hand pain, neck pain, long term posture changes in the body, people tend to lie down more)
Then you've to discuss about the how each apps in the app store are eating up consumers money in the form of subscription based models. For Macbooks at least they got advantage of installing some open source and community edition stuff. And, Macbooks avail some lite programming.
I would prefer 13" ipad Pro with fan for better heat dissipation.

This years resolution was to use more my IPad on my daily workflow. And I made it. I only use my MacBook Pro when I want to work on Word documents with the compare tool. For every other use, iPad is just OK to perform it. I personally advice to buy either an iPad Air M1 or an iPad Pro 12,9 preferably the M2 version for being future proof.

Definitely both, iPad is so limited on the most simplest things such as certain websites. It’s ridiculous. I had to renew my car insurance discount and my iPad Air 5 with the Magic Keyboard had a hard time twice in the process managing a certain section but my brothers $300 dell laptop did it with flying colors. So I went and bought a MacBook Air m1 on promotion sale from Best Buy for $750. No regrets

      @Gilfordd 3 месяца назад

@@lapatabelluda2240 yeah don’t get me wrong for the most part. It works absolutely fine and majority of the websites will run well however, I guess it also depends on the site and what program they’re using right? Something old-school, such as renewing your car insurance discount may struggle with some thing here and there, but for the most part you should be good if you buy an iPad Pro I just hope that they make the software even better with the next update coming up this year.

An iPad OS can't replace a MacBook. For simple web browsing, some websites require the desktop experience for full functionality, which may not work properly on the iPad. A proper desktop experience is essential for me, rather than websites and apps only optimised for iPad OS, which may result in losing some functions. It's simple go with what best works for you.

The only reason not to opt for iPad is because of Premier Pro, After Effects, and Maxon Cinema 4D. These apps are not available for iPads yet😪

sold my gaming laptop for an ipad. Did I regret it? there are times, yes. Surprisingly though I used my ipad pro far more than I did with my laptop. It is great as media consumption device, and writing reports using word and excel is surprisingly convenient and doable. Still, I wholeheartedly agree that this device is very limiting. External Drive support is very limited and there is no option to reformat those drives. The File manager needs abit of work. External monitor support is junky. And alot of apps arent optimized yet for the ipad and instead launch a fullblown ios app instead.

I dont understand why not make the pros run macos since they have the specs and could be the cheaper alternative that is even more portable with a touch screen and with a keyboard really nothing stops it… why not have both or make a macos portable mode?

I'm actually kinda interested on how portable the iPad is. But the downside for me is the fact that most of the useful apps I use are not available on iPad and is only available on macOS. I kinda wish Apple would make a more portable macOS. Combining iPad and macOS together where you can do all that macOS has to offer, but is also touchscreen along with Apple Pencil, can be detached from the keyboard, etc.
Right now, the only thing that makes me want to buy the iPad is only because of how portable it is, and how you can use a stylist to draw on it. But what's the purpose if all the apps I use are not available on it. It's basically just my phone but just bigger.

I wish I could have an iPad to do some work but I can't, occasionally I need to do some data analysis and I don't think the iPad can handle due to lack of software 😢. I think I'll have to go with the MacBook Air. My brother has an iPad Pro and I love playing with it, I want one but I know it would be a waste of money. Maybe if I got the regular iPad it would be worth it as long as I have a pc to do my work and the iPad is just for casual use. But I really want an iPad Pro, it's so cute you can do so many cute things. Maybe I'll buy one and try to use it as my main machine, if it doesn't fit my needs I sell it and buy a MacBook 😞

The only difference is in Excel macros, coding and battery in reality. That's it. After that the iPad becomes a different beast. Portability, accessories, cameras and apple pencil makes it beat the living daylights out of a mac.

I had an iPad two years before getting a MacBook. While the iPad is an excellent gadget, it is not as good as a standard laptop. I enjoyed taking notes, light editing documents, and online browsing on the iPad, and it has now become my primary entertainment device when I am on the go. However, it is limited. As a researcher, I primarily use Microsoft Office, which when on the iPad, it does not include all of the functions found on a laptop. And, of course, the iPad is incompatible with statistical data analysis applications such as Atlas.ti, SPSS, AMOS, and others, so I found myself returning to a desktop for more heavy-duty work, so I opted to get a MacBook. It all boils down to what you plan to accomplish with your gadget. In my instance, I need both an iPad and a MacBook. The MacBook has an excellent battery. Lasts me all day, sometimes for days.
