The Rijks museum in Amsterdam reopened. One of the most amazing objects is the ship model of the 'William Rex", built in 1698. We made a video documentary of the dismantling, transport and restoration of the 4.5 meter long historical object.

What a wondeful job!! I do love Dutch ships from XVI and XVII centuries. With the portuguese and spanish big ship till the mid XVII the were the best Galleons and ships of line, well and smaller ones in the Earth planet. The XVIII century had a great french and english ships, but they are not so beuty. Holland a grat country I a woulld love to visit some day. Thanks for posting this vid.

My Dutch is not very good and I have not used it for some years. But what he is saying how difficult it was to redo some of the rigging . And how accurate a model of that time it was . So accurate , it could be used to research into war ships of the period . When they were carrying up the stairs . My heart was in my mouth , It would be tragic if they dropped it and it was damaged !

Is the model made before the ship was built, or after?

My guess and it's only that . After it was built for the simple reason it is so very arcuate model . When a ship goes into service , running rigging and sails would have been altered so the ship handles better .
