Thanks for getting me into brewing Paul. Your video has cleared a lot of my worries and misgivings about brewing my own. Just about to start brewing my very first IPA! RIP Paul, sadly missed. I will toast you with my first pint!
Great videos my friend. FYI, I think the pump outlet cap on the Grainfather is designed to go over the pipe inside the mash tube while you are adding the grains. in that way no danger of getting grains down inside the pipe or pump. Thank you for the videos, I have been wishing someone would do this, thank you for reading my mind.
A few times You mention the Grainfather uses a PID temp controller. Nup. Its a standard temp controller STC 1000. Whcih is why you get the overshoot on the mash temps. PID is more expensive but a lot more accurate. Great comparison. Cheers
I have been brewing mead and is wanting to start on brewing beer. I been looking into the gear you need and have thought about maybe getting one of these systems, so it is nice to see how they work. Thanks.
Lovin the comparison! Thanks for really going through them, it's great to see. Can't wait to see parts 2 and 3 . . . sadly will have to wait til tomorrow. Cheers man!
Very good video and well presented. I must say that this equipment looks impressive but I can foresee lots of things to go wrong. I just use a simple mash tun that I made, although I've just ordered a stainless steel Thermo Pot. I prefer to keep brewing simple because I know with all these electronics sooner or later they will fail.
chris chapman I heated it up first, well I put it in three quarters of the way through, the pump recirculates while heating so water temp should have been pretty even. I did preheat the water via my own HLT to about 48ºC first as well
Ant Rogerson I thought about it when I plugged everything in, and added up the draw, but I have a decent 36amp line that powers my brewery, and a separate 10amp for all other devices. Cheers
Great video. I'm in thoughts of purchasing one of those or something similar. Must ask you where you got that bottle opener from? I have the same ones but mine must be smaller since I just can put it on my little finger and I don't think my fingers are thicker than yours. I got mines from China. Cheers!
I just got interested into beer brewing after seeing this vid from 2015. What are your thoughts now on these 2 brands in the end of 2018. The GF has a Bluetooth Connect now, but no 50 liter. Since i'm a starter in leaning towards to the GF since their price is more than 100% less. Saves me 800 euro's. What modifications would you advice to do to the Grainfather connect 2018 models. The Speidels Plus versions dont score very well on their internal cooling. Most people still prefer to use their old copper worth spiral chiller into the Speidel Plus models.
Great Vids! What set-up would you personally go for if you had a budget of 1400 NZD? Would you invest in separate vessels... or go Grainfather? Cheers, Dan.
Great videos my friend. I wonder if this Braumeister is a 120 Volt/60 Hertz version or a 220 Volt/50 hertz version or a 220 Volt 60 Hertz version or a 220 Volt/50-60 Hertz version? Please give me an answer on that.
Time4Another1 its not underletting in the true sense as you have dumped grain on top of water which in my experience will form dough balls in the braumeister and can potentially make the pump channel through. I stir as im pouring in. Then when half grains are in give good stir continue and once all in give another good stirring.
Regarding the grainfather getting blocked with hops. Did you use the whirlpool technique to get all the hops in the center of the pot before turning on the pump? Also, were you using pellet or whole leaf hops?

Great comparison and breakdown, really appreciate your insight and pointing things out for us amateurs who are considering an all-in-one unit.

Michael Duncan Cheers Michael, it was a fun experiment to do, thanks for watching
Gone but never forgotten
Just getting caught up on his older content, and saw your name. Cheerz Paul
when you doughed in, why did you not stir the grain to make sure there were no dough pockets in the grain bed?
A few times You mention the Grainfather uses a PID temp controller.

Very good video - very informative without prejudice towards either unit.

Good stuff mate. Natural presenter. Killer brewhouse you have in the background also.
Eamonn Foley Cheers, thanks for watching
Hi, when are you doing a new brewday video? Would love to see your brewery in action!
Loving this series very informative and just what I need to know for revisions of my home made Fartmiester part two here I come. Cheers.
The Old Farts Brewery Your fartmiester is the way to go. Build a system with all the good bits from other setups. Cheers
Great video as always Paul. Thanks for doing this.
patsfan1284 Cheers Joe

cfwolnia Part 2 is a real cliff hanger ;) Cheers for watching

+Sabbyne Lewis Sorry to say, you won't get a reply. Dear Paul passed away in Nov.
Oh no! that's terrible. I loved watching these videos. That's awful news.
+mittelfruh he's what 40-45 tops? too young too early! too bad... rip
It'll be interesting to see how they go especially how the Grainfather costs about $1000 here in Australia.
thelongslowgoodbye
Same $ here in US.
Thanks for sharing this Paul. Cheers!
great vid! When you heat up the braumeister you don't have the malt pipe in ! It tells you to put it in when you hit mash temp.
chris chapman I heated it up first, well I put it in three quarters of the way through, the pump recirculates while heating so water temp should have been pretty even. I did preheat the water via my own HLT to about 48ºC first as well
Fkn aye, I've been waiting to see this, my morning is going to be shot........Brilliant Paul!!
FItLetsBrewIt ! Cheers Dan
Hi there. Sorry if I missed that, but just wondering whether you shared the grain bill? Wanted to check efficiencies. Thanks,
Did all the street lights go dim when you fired them both up!!!
Ant Rogerson I thought about it when I plugged everything in, and added up the draw, but I have a decent 36amp line that powers my brewery, and a separate 10amp for all other devices. Cheers
Oh yes. It is time!!
underthetablebrewing it took a while, but 6 hours of footage, compacted down to 1, hell yeah
Love it. Very thorough.
Great video. I'm in thoughts of purchasing one of those or something similar.

American electrical code is typically 1500w wiring on a circuit--2000 would possibly short the circuit, might explain the switch.

I miss this guy..
Pleasure Master -how did Paul die?
nice video
Would love to watch this later with time, but could you compact your answer to one word, which one is better in your opinion? :]
No stirring at grain addition step?

You really need to stir the grains when you dough in to braumeister gonna get efficiency problems just dumping and putting screen on
doonus with constant underletting I would have thought that that would not be an issue at all.

Drop the wing nut its no big deal it just lands on the top screen
Scott Baines yeah your right, but it still gets hot ;) cheers
This guy needs a mash-paddle...
Not sure..
