Excellent video sir you really covered everything in it.All stages of working through a brew day with a Braumeister.Last video of your I looked at was about building a sparge arm.You have seriously upgraded your home brewery since then.Smart thinking on the electric hoist for the malt pipe.Gets the job done perfectly and with no chance of being scalded by hot wort.
Shaun Gerrard LOL, yes sometimes I have to do something different. I did upload a full POV brewing video! It's on my channel. Cheers and happy new year to you and your family.
Lovely video Glenn you really have the kit don't you, must get saving the pennies. Thanks for showing the brew day and merry Xmas to you and your family. Cheers.
The Old Farts Brewery Thank you for the kind words sir :-) I am too late for Christmas wishes but: Happy new year and all the best to you and your family in 2015! happy new year! Cheers
Hi. Great video. I guess you're Dutch but as all the reactions are in English I will write mine in English as well. I own a 50L Braumeister too. I do most things the same as you, but the sparging part was new to me (removing the siff and stirring it before you sparge). Cooling down is a thing I do with a plate chiller. That's a brilliant piece of equipment. I wouldn't want to miss it anymore. Will keep an eye on your channel. Cheers!
Offtapbrewing Cheers Tiny, I am a bit too late for Christmas but I wish you and Kate all the best for 2015 and happy new year. Also your family and and pets of course ;-) Proost
this video is pretty good would love to know what is your volume loss before sparge we typically loose about a gallon of strike water during mash and 1 gallon during boil for 60-70min of boil
I'll give you a hint for better sparging and a clearer wort. You'll have to make this, since I've never seen a place to buy one ...... create a fitting with a hose that fits into the pump outlet inside the brew kettle. When you lift the basket up to sparge, insert it into place and put the end of the hose up into the grain basket, and turn on the pump. This will pump wort over the grains. The grain bed will filter out much of the "cloudy" stuff so you are left with a fairly clear wort. Keep an eye on your wort and stop the pump once it is clear enough for you. For me, it takes about 20-30 minutes of sparging, the result is a very clear wort. I have no idea why they do not include the fitting / hose setup I described, but It makes a world of difference. (I got the idea from something Joe Fisher was doing in one of his vids.)
Khaotic Media It's a fantastic machine. 100%. Love the accurate electric brewing now, have some pretty good results with it. Merry Christmas and happy new year to you and your family. Cheers
Happy Holidays to you too Glenn. That thing does so much, I'm surprised it doesn't clean itself. That filter hoist must be worth its weight in gold. I can't imagine lifting that out slow enough to drain the grains.
Brad Watson Indeed the malt pipe is heavy. About 24 KG I guess. The hoist works amazing for about €79. Love the BM for sure, hopefully it will last for a really long time. Cheers and all the best for 2015!
Nice one glenn been waiting for you to do a vid with your bm.Have you and tiny seen they are doing new control panels with wlan connectivity upgradable for existings units. Also a 10ltr unit is on the way cheers
beerlover1983brew Thanks. No I didn't know that, will check it out for sure. I love it the way it is now but new stuff is always good :-) Thanks for the heads up. Cheers
homebeerbrewery Which would you recommend for me. A Braumeister or a Grainfather . Im looking to brewing batches of 50ltr . also which would be the dream fermentor to go with your choice . I'm looking for something for life not something that will do for a while . Great videos keep them coming
Greener99 I am not always making a video about my brew day, did brew though ;-) I wish you all the best for 2015 and a happy new (brewing) year! Cheers
Hi Glenn, beste wensen jonge! Your setup is evolving nicely :) braumeister + automatic crane mechanism is top class! looking forward to your new videos in 2015! Ps like the new mr carbonator addition in your other video, I'm still stuck with my tire valve cola top conversion!
Brewmacker ! Thanks! Happy new year! Maybe it's better to order a carbonator cap, it works soooooo easy and it's durable. Only $16. Thanks again for watching. Cheers and make some videos to!
I just ordered one from China last week! Looking forward to it arriving :) I have made a first attempt to record a home brew video. I only had my iphone at the time. I was holding it between my knees during sparging and subsequently dropped it into the brew pot with 20 liters of 78 •c wort 😣 But! It somehow survived lol 😆 So I guess my first brew video will be an absolute brewFAIL!
nice brew day mate.. that kit must be over £800 i take it as its a 50 ltr.. but so glad u brewing again like to see more mate.. cheers and happy christmas ..
Dave Britton Thank you mate. The Speidel Braumeister costed me €2049 and the isolation jacket €95. So a lot of money but I really like the (accurate) electric brewing. Cheers and all the best for 2015. Have a wonderful new (brewing) year!
thanks for getting back mate , just to say if i had my charnce again i think i would go for the braumeister 50 now as as you say its a lot easyer.. and takes up lot less room .. ho well have a great new year and hope we can skype later in the new near when i start a channel on brewing .. every little helps err..lol cheers mate
Great job on the video explaining how a Braumeister looks and works. I'm in the market for one and this really helps show how cool they are. The only concern I have is seeing the wort freefall during mashing from the top of the malt pipe and splashing into the pool on the outside of the malt pipe. Do you have any issues with hot side aeration, resulting in staling effects on the finished beer?
I really enjoyed your video, I have a new BM 50l, and will do my first batch as soon as I get a 220 run to my garage. One question I have that I cannot seem to get answered from anyone; You start off with 55l of water after mashing you sparge, approximately how much? Do you sparge until you collect 55l to start the boil? In your video you don't mention that but it shows you are at the 55l mark I think. So if I am correct about this, how much are you left with after the boil?
Hi Glenn! Have you managed to save the pilsner even with your fermentation problems? Will you give us an update on that? I linked to your video in my own video regarding the new controller for the braumeister, hope you are ok with that.
Janeriks channel Well, hard to say. I know for sure that the appearance is much better of (some) beers. The multi step mash on different temperatures seems to have a awesome effect on the foam stability. Didn't brew that much already to answer the question right now, maybe later ;-) Cheers and thanks for watching. All the best for 2015, happy new year.
Hi, nice vid! im new in braumeister and i have a question. How much water did you use to sparge? i use 1 l/kg and water doesnt flow down, maybe im doing the sparge faster than i should? Thxs for this video, its give me really good tips. btw, sry for my english )
Leuk! Now it is 7 years later... does your Braumeister still work flawlessly? I have a very good offer for a Braumeister 50 from 2014 that looks exactly like yours. Would you recommend buying it today?
I did my last brew with a BM Andre months ago, great quality equipment. Depends on the beer type you like brewing, for light ALL GRIAN ABV beers it’s in my opinion the best “set and forget system” if you like brewing stronger ALL grain beers other devices will be an option. My advice: just start and we will see what happens , Dit the same 17 years ago 😜 cheers 🍻
@@homebeerbrewery Thanks! That sounds good. I think I will get me one of these babies. I will keep my old, small and manual setup for the experimental stuff, but I like the comfort of the system when it comes to larger quantities. Cheers! 🍺
Hey man, this what totally helpfull. I did my second brew today. But first in the braumeister. When i was looking into your videos before buying the braumeister i thought, damn this guy is fancy with the motor to lift up the wort, and TODAY i knew why you are using it. I almost quit until i find a way out to finish the mash process ! thumbs up for you, what power of motor are you using to lift up?
Nice video! But in others you said that boil on braumaister it's no good. I have pne of 50l and I see that boil it's not powerfull You can recomend me something for get the best boil on the braumeister Thank's and merry chistsmas Cherss!
Raul Sanchez Hello, do you have a isolation jacket? That helps a lot and the sea level is also a fact, I live 12 meters above sea level so boil is near 100 degrees Celsius. If you live somewhere in the mountains you will never get a rolling boil I guess? Some top brewers say that wort is already "boiling" at 96 Degrees Celsius. I subbed. Can you please upload a video about your boil? Cheers and all the bes tfor 2015!
homebeerbrewery Well the sea level is not a problem we are avout 50 meters. I just done 2 baches, 1 with out insolation jaket but it don't get a good rolling boil and the last one with insolation jaket that's goes better but I juts get a good rolling boil if I cover the braumeister. It's looks like your first experiene whit the BM 20l. My solution: cover the BM and just leave a 2-3 cm open by one side. That's really normal? what do you done for get the rolling boil of the video? Thanks! ;-)
Love watching your brew day vids, man i need a BM :) What tablet did you put in at 13:00? Any details on how long you plan to ferment and lager? I'm already looking forward to seeing the end result. Keep the vids coming
8 Years later but since I was wondering the same thing this answer could be helpful to someone in the future - he adds "Whirlfloc tablets" - it's an additive that reduces the haziness of the liquid.
Brewing an IPA tomorrow, your Video was very helpful to remind me of everything. I'm using a Braumeister 50 new Gen. PS: Why do you open the pump motor at the end? To dry it?
Hey Great video. I have one question though, won't spargeing trough the grainbed the opposite way of the wort circulation flush all the fine particles back into the wort ??
Hello! No, I don't have any signs of flushing a lot of the the small particles back into the wort, maybe some but acceptable, works for me this way :-) Cheers
Wow! Your brewing equipment is f***** amazing ! im so jealous. All I do now is beer kits. Haha! But its still fun for me, one day I will invest in something like that, How much do you think it will cost me? Thanks anyway, You got a new subb, cheers from Norway ! Amazing video btw !
Awesome brew day Glenn love watching your brew days always nicely shot video footage. Looks liker he B-meister is a nice machine. Have you had any issues with hops clogging in your pump if you recirculate during chilling? Cheers!
Everty Homebrewing Thanks. For now, no trouble with trub in the pumps. I am sure it will give problems when switching the pumps on to late. I only use pallet hops, no whole leaves anymore. It's an awesome machine, love it. Cheers and all the best for 2015!
Awesome video man, such a cool set up you have. Cheers to you! Keep on brewing! +John Matthews, Well it looks like he uses 14.5 gallons to mash in and about 24 pounds of grain, he also uses about 3.5 gallons to sparge with. I would say he is shooting for roughly a 15 gallon batch witch would imply that he needs a second tier, 20 Liter Braumeister witch at retail sells for $1,800. On top of that he has a huge fermentation vessel, electric sparge system, kick ass wort chiller, electric winch, and a kegging system. All told at retail, I would guesstimate his set up anywhere from $2,500 - $4,000 depending on other fun toys he has!
Proost
Looks like a lot of fun to brew with the meister. Happy hollidays and take it easy with the homebrewed stuff. BTW what model of the Canon EOS is that you are filming with ? Cheers from Sweden !
uffeman76 I believe I did answer the question already in a other video but it's the Canon 700D with the standard kit lens :-) I use that camera for about 1 year now. Previous videos are made with the Canon SX220. Cheers
I'm jealous of your brew room :) and it all looks so clean and tidy, my speidel 20L just arrived today, I can't wait to get going. What do you use to correct the ph?
The efficiency is about 75 -85% ( deepens on a lot of factors) , if you like to brew high gravity beers you need to: 1: adjust the recipe with malt extract, sugar or syrup because the malt pipe has a limited capacity or 2: boil the wort longer before additions, evaporate the water in the wort so it gets higher in gravity or 3: mash twice in the same wort with a new fillet pipe with malt. The maximum cappacity of the malt pipe of a 50L BM : maximal filling 13,0 kg. The Braumeister website have answers too : It is possible to brew strong beer as well.Obviously you need to get stronger beer wort (more than 16 °P or 1068 SG). You could reach it by boiling down and reducing the liquid quantity. To become higher gravity wort and still keep the full volume amount you’ll have to mash twice with the same wort. It will provide you up to 24 °P or 1.101 SG. Cheers!
Hey Glenn! I have a question on one detail of this video! With what kind of liquid did you sanitize the lid? Thanks for answering! Cheers from Austria! Manuel
Guillaume Lecrocq Hello, thanks for the kind words. I added a Whirlfloc tablet @13:00. Whirlfloc tablets are a blend of Irish Moss and purified Kappa carrageenan that encourages the precipitation of haze causing materials such as proteins and Beta glucans. Prepared in a quick dissolving, highly soluble tablet form. Almost everyone who tries Whirlfloc tablets prefer them to regular Irish Moss. Add for the final 5 minutes of the boil. Note: One Whirlfloc tablet is good for 10-15 gallons of wort. We suggest using half a tablet for 5 gallon batches for most beers. That was some information of the tablet. Works perfect! Cheers!
Dan ABA Thanks man, the brewday took about 6,5 hours including rough cleaning. Next day again about 20 minutes to clean everything else up, including putting the BM together with the dried parts. Cheers and all the best to you and your family in 2015! happy new year!
Great video Glen. The brewmiester is a pretty awesome machine. Here is a quick tip before you add your wort chiller. tip in 5 and under- wort chillers: ruclips.net/video/uMVL_SZ1MnA/видео.html

Nice video 👍😃
That's a serious bit of kit! How much is one of those to buy??
+jbyrne13 He mentioned that it is a 50L Braumeister! But anyway, it's a serious investment beyond where most homebrewers are.
Cheers
"Homebrew supply shop on the other side of the country." I'm located in Australia so that sounds like a very long drive for me!
ttjarrett Lol, no it's an 1,5 hour drive for us ;-) Cheers
homebeerbrewery Around 72 hours here. Keep up the great work, your videos are great!
Thanks!
I'm jealous of your brew room :) and it all looks so clean and tidy, my speidel 20L just arrived today, I can't wait to get going.
What do you use to correct the ph?
How do you use the spent grains in cookies?
How long does it take you to finish a 50 L batch with the Braumeister (from mash in to fermenter bucket, incl. cooling?)
Would another crush produce more sugar in grain ?
What is your typical efficiency with this system? Do you ever have trouble brewing double or triple IPA styles with the system? Thanks
The Braumeister website have answers too :
It is possible to brew strong beer as well.Obviously
you need to get stronger beer wort (more than 16 °P or 1068 SG). You
could reach it by boiling down and reducing the liquid quantity. To
become higher gravity wort and still keep the full volume amount you’ll
have to mash twice with the same wort. It will provide you up to 24 °P
or 1.101 SG.
Cheers!
Hey Glenn! I have a question on one detail of this video! With what kind of liquid did you sanitize the lid? Thanks for answering! Cheers from Austria! Manuel
Hi! What is it that you add at 13:00 please? You make nice videos by the way! Thanks!
Cheers!
Excellent, I didn't know about that. Thank you so much! Cheers!
Hello . How did you correct te mash ph reading ?
@@homebeerbrewery lactic acid, got it. Thanks man. Question. how much liters do you get ? In fermenter after brewing on your 50L braumeister system
Nice jjob buddy . Only have a dumb question whats the pill you put in ?
There are no dumb questions, I think you mean the Whirlfloc tablet? Is for clearing the wort, like Irish moss. Cheers
Oh ok ,, didnt understadn the word LOLOLOL thanks buddy
How can I get the brewing equipment?
what are the tables? you add afther adding the wort chiller
It's a clearing agent, like Irish moss. Search for whirlfloc please. Cheers
Great video, Glenn. That is a hell of a machine. How long was the brewday?
Dan ABA Thanks man, the brewday took about 6,5 hours including rough cleaning. Next day again about 20 minutes to clean everything else up, including putting the BM together with the dried parts. Cheers and all the best to you and your family in 2015! happy new year!
Happy holidays Glenn!
Makes my two 4gal kettles, and my paint straining bags seem lame, but I make good beer.
Stan Lindert have to say his system makes it easier doesn’t it ?
How much time did it take, for the beer after adding yeast?
About 1 weer of primary fermentation, 1 week secondary and I storer's the beer a couple of weeks in the refrigerated kegs. Was a tasty beer. Cheers
