  • Andrew Cogliano knows what it takes to put in a full season in the NHL, and he decided 17 years of blood, sweat and tears was enough to call it quits. An iron man, workhorse of a player decided to retire on his own terms and accept a position in the front office with the Colorado Avalanche. So while he will be missed on the ice, he begins a new role of helping the team he last played for.
    We also hand Val Nichushkin his season grade. It goes about as expected.

    About Cogs. His cup speech must have been legendary. Was awesome to see him raise the cup. Also players like Cogs want to play with MacKinnon and company.

    My favorite Cogliano Avalanche memory was game 2 in the finals. He was just back from hand surgery and was on the penalty kill. He got a loose puck and immediately passed it over to Manson as they broke away for the short-handed goal. Such a tough and dependable teammate.

      You know what you NEVER HEAR? Someone mentioning Sam Girard scoring on a short handed break away like JOSH MANSON! What a versatile, big Dman who can actually finish off goals, and on the PK no less. I never saw Girard score once on the overly Dman'd second powerplay. Cute passing doesn't mean dick!

    I wish I (or you) could replay the episode when you informed us that Val was leaving the team this season. I think we'd see a marked difference in your feelings about him then and now.

  • @rachle81
    @rachle81 Месяц назад

    Sad to see Cogs go, excited to see what he does in the front office! I think you're right that it's a sign of respect and how much the team admires him (and he admires the team) that he's immediately transitioning into a FO role with Colorado. That's pretty darn cool.
    Val: I gave him an F, sorry. Shaggy is right--it has to be the sum of all parts. If I do great in a class even though I call in sick a bunch but I'm awesome when I'm there, and then I completely airball the final test, I fail the class. If I have a dinner and the service is amazing but the waiter shoots me in the head on my way out the door, it doesn't matter how good the service or meal were, it was a bad experience. If this were the first time val did something like this, or if he would show some remorse instead of doing cheeky podcasts and competing in non-NHL hockey action while he's supposed to be getting himself right? Maybe I'm less harsh. But I've said it before (as in like, just the other day while talking about potential draft picks), as a society we're a little too eager to handwave away crappy/criminal personal behavior because of a person "being good at sports", and I just can't give him a pass on this anymore, not even for a silly grade on a podcast. I wish him well and hope (even if for just his wife and kid's sakes) that he finds the help he needs but I hope he becomes someone else's problem or at least gets used as trade-bait when/if he gets reinstated.
    And I think McDavid seems like a good dude off the ice, but my GOD am I tired of the glazing he gets from everyone everywhere. I hope Florida wins tonight for many reasons, but I won't be sad in the least that it'll mean Edmonton doesn't. (Also Corey Perry and Evander Kane suck, ha.)

    As a Floridian, I want to see the Panthers get there 1st Cup. As an American, I want the Canada curse to continue. As an Avs fan, I wouldn't be upset if the West wins the Cup. As a human being, please do not let friggan Corey Perry break the Perry Curse. 😂😂

    This'll be a bit of a lenghty comment but over all there's 2 things
    1.) Vals a tough one because you know he's good on ice but off ice his reliability is questionable therefore i didn't give him a grade personally. Although ill say chris's assessment seems fair.
    2.) Lets talk about the storylines for game 7
    Panthers: stave off the reverse sweep and win their first ever cup in franchise history and they bring it back to florida for the 3rd time in four years.
    Oilers.) After a disastrous start to the season they bounce back, they complete the reverse sweep, their new coach wins the cup his first year, mcdavid wins his first cup,they bring it back to canada, end the oiler cup drought, and lets be honest but it will most likely happen infront of Gretzky himself so he can congratulate mcdavid in person.
    Not gonna say the NHL is rigged but if it was then i think I'd know which team they'd choose lmao.

      in 1990 Reds owner Marge Schott refused to pay for their championship party bc they swept the As & she only got two home games worth of profits. I'm guessing the Panthers crush EDM tonight.

    Look at Val's grade as a teacher. He made As for his daily grades (early regular season game). Then he failed the midterm, when he entered the player protocol earlier this season. He came back and made some more As for the remainder of the season. He started the final exam but then walked out after starting it. A failed midterm and final will ultimately end in a failed class.

    Val when he played: A

  • @kaydirling
    @kaydirling Месяц назад

    I gave Val a C, splitting the difference between an A for his on-ice performance and an F for once again failing to finish the season. It's such a sucky situation. He is top talent in the league. But it doesn't mean anything if you can't show up.

  • @bafriesen
    @bafriesen Месяц назад

    My comment on Val Nichushkin is why is 1 player that vital to the success of this team? Could the rest of the talent on the Avalanche not make up for absence of one person (rhetorical question)? Where's MacFarland at to build this team to ensure the loss of one guy, to whatever circumstance, isn't going to collapse the entire effort? They already knew Landeskog was going to be out, but didn't seem to plan for it, just relied on Nichushkin only.
    I don't think Nichushkin should come back, but then what??? If the Avs have only proven that this guy is the linch pin to success it seems like a bigger problem the GM hasn't addressed ever because he's been constructing a team of shrimps.
