Yeah and he bought all those plants from a supermarket garden center, which 10-15x more expensive than if you were to buy from Farmers. I travel an hour once every year to a rural area to get hundreds of plants for around 50$. This guy probably spent like 300 - 400$ on those few plants.
fouad othman it’s in Medford south New Jersey. Where ever you live you can always find a rural area where you can get you plants for much cheaper than regular store or garden center.
Eggplants , tomatoes and strawberries are growing well in my small Garden in Iran , (we have enough rainfall in Iran at this year so most of Mountains are covered by wildflowers and they are pretty beautiful )
From France: wonderful work! I lived in Australia, I remember the wonderful vegetation in the Victoria, Melbourne, green everywhere, great weather! And the kookaburras eating worms, like this one! beautiful country, lovely people!
I live in Louisiana and I just am cheap so I grabbed a shovel that the previous owners left at our house and started digging up rows and added epsom salt in those rows before I planted cheap packets of seeds. I looked around my yard for some dead leaves around my trees and found mulch underneath and just added water with my natural mulch in a bucket and then watered my garden with that. It's growing. I was given a free rabbit and now I'm going to have free fertilizer for a few years :)
best way to enjoy a beautiful garden is.... don't hire anyone. DIY the lot. Make a ton of mistakes, waste a lot of money, break a ton of tools, do your back in, get frustrated, scrounge and scavenge materials, learn all the tricks, cementing, stonemasonry, start knowing every flower by sight, FINALLY start seeing the fruits of your labour, and THEN- many years later you can enjoy, and truly enjoy, your beautiful garden, and when surveying the masterpiece you made with blood, sweat and tears, you will thank the heavens you had the good sense to do it all by yourself and look back on how fun it actually was.
This is an excellent video. You maximize the space for a beautiful garden, I learned a lot including your compose bin. Very relaxing and inviting when you see this garden. Thank you.
very nice. all they need now is a plan for the weeds, early blight, late blight, slugs, white fly, black fly, downey mildew, leafhopper, hornworm, japanese beetles, aphids, squirrels ,rabbits , birds and lets not forget the neighborhood cats....happy gardening!
Well, with all the poisons from Monsanto has been put into our veggies, even babies are are getting it from traces in breast milk and many governments would sooner line their pockets than worry about us being poisoned. I'm a city girl but It's time now that we are planting a garden too. It's the smart thing to do in these times. I also read that $1 in seeds turns into $70. in food. Now how can you beat that? :)
This is how to make a pretty picture for a magazine. It's not realistic to think it will remain so pretty nor functional. 1. The sandpit shouldn't have garden plants on the edge as the soil and sand is bound to get mixed, and plant matter end up in the sandpit. Even if you put a cover over the sandpit when not in use, which is necessary to prevent animals pooping in it, it will still get mixed when used. The rocks are going to be annoying to remove. 2. Compost bins are better made over the soil rather than concrete to drain well, preventing smells, and benefit from the soil microbes in the ground. Putting rocks around the compost bins may make the area temporarily pretty but at the end of the day they'll end up mixed in the compost and in the garden. 3. Bamboo stakes are great for beans to climb up and look pretty but in no way are strong enough to support a mature tomato plant heavy with fruit. 4. The spacing of plants isn't designed to be productive but instantly pretty. Artichokes will get huge and choke out the competition which has been given no space to grow. Plants have been placed directly next to each other filling all the gaps, giving an instant appeal but there is no space to grow and things will compete and look terrible quickly. 5. Apart from using expensive products, they have spent money on a small farms worth of seedling trays when the space would only need a few. Spending money on stuff you don't need or don't have space for is not educational, not well thought out giving people the wrong idea as to how many they might need, and promotes unnecessary spending. Of course, gardeners see the issues here and why a magazine wants "picture perfect" in the moment. The biggest hurdle for people is watering. If you are busy you don't have time to water and nothing was done to add a system to do this, probably due to the fact it might disturb the aesthetics for the photo shoot.
+Yoni & Mai Matkovsky ,You British people should travel to Iran to see the beautiful mountains and forests here ,we have wild saffrons and wild strawberries ,Even most of mountains are covered by wild flowers ...I love to travel to many remote areas in Iran but I need a team because I scare to travel alone hahahaha
+Persian saffron I'm American and I would love to! Your country is really beautiful. Unfortunately we americans don't have a good reputation over there. :/
Logan Appleman some politicians have problem with american leaders ,but most of people like American tourists ,Even many Institutes are looking for American teachers so you can enjoy alot if you travel here ,the number of tourists from Germany and Russia are significantly increased in this year and most of Hotels are booked by them ,
All of these nasty comments, why? Yes they possibly have spendt a fortune and so what? Garden how you like to and stop being negative about how others choose their garden. I think this is just absolutely stunning.
Pretty good but you forgot to put down landscape fabric under the ag. It keeps the ag from being driven into the ground, keeps the weeds down, requires less of the more expensive ag, and it is cheap.
+Iris Rodríguez ,You guys should travel to Iran to see the beautiful mountains and forests here ,we have wild saffrons and wild strawberries ,Even most of mountains are covered by wild flowers ...I love to travel to many remote areas in Iran but I need a team because I scare to travel alone hahahaha
***** to bad thee earth has been decomposing these things in your dirt for ever. its why you spend all that extra money on soil enrichment.. a bigger nono ;)
I do have a compost heap but it doesn't smell. Dog poop smells more than a compost heap. It is an earthy smell, not offensive. Mine anyway. Mine is mostly grass and some scraps. Some twigs and leaves. No animal products as those things can stink. Maybe i'm too used to it, i garden too much. The scraps in the tub inside smell a bit, but once added to the pile the smell disappears after a short while. The open air and possibly the earth, neutralises it it seems.
***** tha explains it all. i live on farm land with a compose over 50 years old underneath.. the soil is black and rich and filled with composted everything from the past, including meat and egg shells. as would yours be.
Hehe.. I was thinking the same. These people acted as have endless resources and open account for this little project. looks nice for the short video clip but very unsustainable for long term.
First not everyone wants irrigation , I have a semi - large garden with no drip irrigation because I don’t want it or need it every evening I happily water my garden with no issues , not being mean but I think that is just your opinion , plus they might of forgotten irrigation . Second if they compost the grass it will most likely re grow with the soil in the compost bins !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Teaching the kids about gardening :) that you must water your plants and such, not to just turn on a tap and walk away! (For me personally, I would have went with irrigation cos time is money, friend.) It's good to get kids more involved :) (It's worth reusing that grass vs compost) too)
So, are they going to be hand-watering this garden? I'm curious about how often that will need to be done, and would have thought drip irrigation might be a good addition. It sure looks beautiful though.
Some time in the future, there needs to be “revisit” kind of episodes to see the growth and maturity of things. Especially this garden.
Amazing what you can do with little imagination and LOTS of money!
Timothy Price That lumber alone probably cost a mint.
thats for sure

Is downey mildew a problem even in Australia?

Beautiful video
Hahaha," all by myself " beautiful
I love this video so much even though I know it was staged amazing video very entertaining
A little additional planning would have resulted in a layer of gravel placed below the beams in order to maximize drainage and minimize rot....
Also, they wouldn't have needed as much soil

Great design that I could do in a few weekends on the cheap (I live in a very affordable state in the US with a wonderfully handy husband).

Beautiful. They should get the square foot garden book so They can learn to care for those plants. no chemical fertilizers. organic only.
Pretty good but you forgot to put down landscape fabric under the ag. It keeps the ag from being driven into the ground, keeps the weeds down, requires less of the more expensive ag, and it is cheap.

Gave the removed grass to needy neighbor. Lol
