- Hunting down Chanterelles, identifying them and cooking them is a blast. It's a great way to get the whole family out in the woods.
I go over where to find Chanterelles, focusing on a few key factors. Then we touch on mushroom identification. We finish it up with a simple recipe and the details of how we store Chanterelles for future use.

Great video. I have 3 kids and i appreciate the clean mushroom tip. We are blessed this year with 100s off lbs of Golden chantrell mushrooms on our farm in Southern Mississippi. Also a tip for cooking. Get your skillet 🍳 hot and just add the mushrooms and cook the water off before adding your butter. Much better flavor.
I've collected chanterelles in SW Colorado. I found them while grouse hunting and hiking. They have a floral taste to them.
For sure… I love them 👍
Absolutely loved this video Cliff! So awesome to see you and your crew out and about 👍 Looks like y'all had some fun for sure! And those Chanterelles looked mighty tasty there too! Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas man!
thanks man! Merry christmas!
@@CliffGray Thanks brother! It was a great one for sure! Hope yours was too man!
So cute with the kids. Clean, dry fry to release all the water content and release flavor, then add dab butter.
👍👍
They make good pickles as well.
HA that was awesome and looks so good!
Thanks man! 👍
I had that “goofball’s” book 20 years ago. Haha!
Haha! Yeah the cover cracks me up
So I’ve noticed you have shifted from your guided hunt videos. I don’t do social media but I’ve been eating up your “tips from a guide videos” I’m taking my woman on our first elk hunt and I want to make it as easy as possible on her. I plan on forking out the money for a good light weight rifle and making her pack as light as possible. Embracing the suck only goes so far. Do you have any tips for making sure she can keep up and stay involved in the hunt and not get dragged down by gear?
Yeah, just have fun.
At some point I'll do a video on that. I will be getting back to a bunch of hunting/guiding videos soon! I'm mixing in some unrelated ones too! just for fun
Harvesting chanterelles is much like harvesting a deer. Quick excitement followed by a lot of work (if done correctly). I use both sinks full of water and a toothbrush then spread them to air dry for a day, but that's just me.
I agree!
What about storage for just over night or so? Dry in the fridge?
You freeze them after you vacuum pack them, right?
Yeah we do. 👍 they store well that way. I’ve had so/so luck with other mushrooms in freezer… but for chanterelles this works well.
Looks like good way get poison ivy !! We have morels n sprig ohio
Yeah it is 😜
