any time i hear thees buses it reminds me of the old first glasgow number nines from linwood to paisley or in to glasgow. I give these buses the name of the sound of home for me as this was my childhood.
They were nice to drive to but some suffered a lot with water getting in. One could have used a windscreen wiper on the inside of the cab lol. Screens also used to mist up a lot.
You are right about the unique sound of that D10A and voith combo. I also remember when starting one before the air built up you got a big warning light saying stop accompanied by ping ping ping.
I disagree because the Volvo B7TL Alexander ALX400's we have in my area are faster off the mark than the Olympians and the Enviro 200's. But yes I do miss the Volvo Olympians dearly though.
I had a feeling it was something like that as it sounds like a Volvo engine and the Voith gearbox reminded me of the B10-BLE Wright Renown's that go past my house on the Arriva North West Route 32A
It was sold out of preservation around 2018 and converted into a barber's shop in Llanelli, South Wales. It apparently still runs but is not presently in roadworthy condition.
I suspect that most of these old '90s buses will have been scrapped, although some will still be operated by some small independents, and even fewer will have been preserved.
Joshua Bell, depends on whether it's limited and how good the bus is. The bus in my profile picture, ex Stagecoach Chichester, Nu-Venture and now on School Services somewhere - could hit 83mph on a cold day

When normal bus-seated Volvo Olympian / Alexander RL's ran with Stagecoach Oxfordshire, I loved the ones with the whiny Voith gearboxes - still do :)!
Lovely ride the sound is so good and such comfortable seats 😍

still better than the current ALX 400s & Scania Omnicities

I remember the TM Travel Olympians. They stuck around till the DDA Compliance came into effect in 2015.
I remember this one being based here in Peterborough
I drove that I was based in Peterborough in 2006 / 7 before transferring to northampton.
They don't make them like this anymore.
What engine does this have as it sounds like a Volvo DH10 from the Volvo B10BLE Wright Renowns
Daryl Yates This is a Volvo D10A engine :-)

It also sounds like the Dennis trident alx400 17006
Yes D10A and voith box. Took forever to reverse as you had to rev the nuts off it just to get it to move in reverse
Is this still around?

Used to drive this in Peterbrough
is that D10A?
Do buses like these still exist now? Or are they all dead

Wow❤️❤️
What top speed could this bus hit?

Thanks for reply.
62 mph with higher speed axles or more, if any had 4 speed voith boxes.
I think these are better than tridents and faster
see im not sure about faster, but better
Tridents were faster volvos were smoother and more comfortable to drive.
sounds like a alx300 from dumfries lol
