    I was in college, and once I didn't practice for recital seminar, and I just got up to the piano and said, "I didn't practice, so I can't play today." Prof actually praised me for being so brutally honest, and then asked me (in front of 100 people) if I was sure I was in the right major.

      @angie Well, yes and no. I graduated and had a very brief concert career, which was literally making me crazy. I discovered that performing for deadlines simply wasn't something I was able to do. It stressed me out way too much. But at some point, I could pretty much play anything; so I was very capable, I just didn't want to do it for a living. I quit playing for about 14 years, and started playing again a few years ago. Some of my recordings are on RUclips in audio. Hit or miss, really, but I nailed the 10/1 as if I had written it myself....if I do say so myself;)

    When I was learning this piece, it was literally the same passage as in the video. My teacher grilled me on that. It took about 6 weeks for me to finally get passed the beginning without her stopping me. And even then, she didn't seem impressed.

    I lived in Russia that time and my teacher was Russian… I love her, but sometimes she was harsh on me saying with her very soft voice “such a shame” and shaking her head. Once I cried and she stopped saying such things… then I understood that she used shaming for improving and motivating me ahahaha

  • @denaro572
    @denaro572 Год назад +23

    So freaking relatable. 😂
    What also happened to frequently was that my teacher was pleased by something I played while in actuality I hadn't practiced. When he told me how contempt he was, equally I would say "yeah, I know, I had a tough time getting this measure right", secretly knowing I hadn't done dip shit the entire week and the only reason I played it well was pure luck.
    Anybody with the same experience?😂

I am studying piano right now as a senior in high school, and can play kind of hard stuff but I listen to everything and it is so nice to see people who are young and so involved in music. I would like more people to be like this, and to make it more popular, but Scriabin Rachmaninoff. Liszt Chopin And everyone else or just not for everybody. Love to see your work. Keep it up bro.

    I learnt this piece without a teacher, because I had GCSE’s, so in the period from February to October this year, with no teacher, I learnt this Ballade, Beethoven 9, Rach prelude C sharp minor and started learning Moment Musicaux no 4. When I brought the Ballade to my current teacher who I’ve now had for two months I distinctly remember him saying (about the passage just before the one Piergiorgio plays) “it sounds lovely, and you’ve nailed the coda, but the piece is not whole if you don’t even have a sense of pulse in the first 0-14 bars”. I felt destroyed after that 😭. I then proceeded to play a mock up of the Ballade to my year (as played in the pianist because the whole piece was too long for the allocated time I was allowed to play 😂) needless to say after finishing the coda I briefly became the most popular person in my year for about a day 😂😂😂 the Ballade is truly one brilliant piece!!
    (Edit: I put four months instead of two regarding my new teacher 🤦‍♂️)

    I have the perfect "get out of jail free" card you can play, in situations like this. Simply say, "my hands hurt." No teacher worth their diploma would make you play on sore hands. In such a lesson, you can learn about the piece in different ways: what it means, why the composer wrote it the way they did, and maybe theoretical analysis of the music.

    This isn't the worst experience but when one time I went onto my lesson all ready (because I practice 40 hours a day). I played through the music that I got through and she said it sounded good. Then she turned to the next piece......That I didn't practice at all because I forgot about it 🙃. Thankfully I was able to sight read through it with minor mistakes but I remember that my heart dropped when she turned the page 😂. But now I'm just honest with my teacher. If I didn't get to something I just tell them and it's not an issue since I usually try to practice daily. There's my long and boring experience. Sorry if I bored you to death lol. 😅
