- This is my ultimate lightweight travel documentary rig! I'm travelling in Colombia at the moment, so having a lightweight rig and a limited amount of gear with me was super important. This is the solution I came up with! Enjoy :)

Inspirational! Thank you!
You're very welcome :)
I use (and love) that same V-Mount battery plate- but instead of the rods I actually put on a V-Mount battery - it provides my 'chest pad' while also adding a bit of weight to the camera (for stability)- and I power both the camera and the monitor off of the battery - so win/win/win... a bit smaller setup than with the rods, and I can leave it fully assembled in my run-n-gun bag (a small 'doctor' style Sachtler).
Everything fits easily on that rig, very compact, looks professional. Thanks!
Thank you! It took some trial and error to get it right 🙏
Great setup Julian! I too love the Sigma 18-35mm. The constant 1.8 aperture throughout the focal range seems like magic. Looking forward to seeing more videos like this!! 💯
Yeah it is magic! Thanks mate. Looking forward to sharing more ;)
that's beautiful setup! inspiring pretty much
Thank you 🙏
Against the grain bring me to your channel. Really appreciated for work and the story
Thank you 🙏🙏
Thanks. that's ggreat travel- take care. Julian, :)
Thanks 🙌
Intresting look into light traveling with film gear! I find it hard to travel light in general, so seeing what you left behind is allready impressive to me! 😅
And I could have actually left behind more 🤣
they need to incorporate camera controls on the grips
Really 💖💖💖
What adapter are you using with the Lens
Yeah, I forgot to meantion that. I use the Sigma MC11. It's the best adapter in my opinion, AF works nearly as well as native sony lenses 👍
how is the fx30 for photo stills? how would this compare to a lumix g7, g9ii or even a blackmagic cube? is the fx30 weatherized? I want to document travels by bicycle and am having a difficult time choosing gear. a phone and action4 can only get me so far. an em1 iii seems like a good value in comparison. A DJI Zenmuse with manual controls would be amazing.
If you want something compact, I would probably recommend the a6600. It's compact and has a lot of great hybrid features. The fx30 shoots 1 photo at a time, doesn't have a viewfinder and it not compact at all
You say lightweight. So, what's the actual weight of this rig?
Would you recommend fx30 over a73 for documentary?
Hey mate. That's a tough one. If you already have a decent fast lens, good audio and lighting setup. Then yes, I think the fx30 is a great camera with it's custom buttons and video centric features (4k 10-bit, etc). Though the full frame of the a73 does give it the lowlight edge, which is great for documentary work. If you still need to invest in other gear then you can't go wrong by saving a few extra bucks with the a73. Hope that helps 💪
Please stop bending ur cables like that .....
They're coiled cables, they're literally made for bending 😂
@@julianmcintoshfilms I had the same note, the main concern is the exit angle of your XLR cable, that is way below the minimum bend radius.
@@_IanOfEarth I see what you're saying, although i'd have to say that the alternative of having a cable in the way is also not nice. He could consider sliding the microphone a bit more forwards to reduce tension or just get a nicer cable (maybe with an angle?), because let's face it, it doesn't seem like a quality XLR cable anyway :P
