How am I just finding out about this! Thanks Beck
who other than Beck could take a classic tune and twist it to something completely different? He's so innovative. His take on Heroin is also pretty sweet. Beck + Velvet Underground is a pretty nice combo
I like this chaotic style very much ^^ good cover
I don't get all the hate. A cover should give a different take on a song while sounding great, which this totally does.
wow. i would never expect beck to cover Venus in Furs. it doesnt have the kind of vibe i would associate with beck. he just never seemed like the kind of guy who would take it seriously.
this proves me completely, entirely wrong.
FYI to those who don't know...
Becks mother hung out at Warhols Factory and
Warhol managed the Velvet Underground.
Becks mom + VU = VU covers by Beck
@TheFactoryOfLight
I agree ! i was listening and thought ""oh i wanna be your dog ?". And it's not the first time that i feel this when i see covers of venus in furs..
god within seconds of this coming on, i knew it was going to be a gem
it's based on a book.Venus in Furs (German: Venus im Pelz) is a novella by the Austrian author
Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, and the best known of his works.
you're welcome..
Nothing wrong with your television. Beck’s in control of all you see & hear.
I love how he just covered the whole album, it's a huge risk to touch such a classic album, but Beck does not give a fuck, very good cover!
Magnificent!
Holy Cow! Beck covers Velvet Underground?!!?!?! Epic!
Great cover!
this is perfect
This is quite ok, compared to some of the other covers he´s done here.
The only artist performing this and Waiting For The Man convincingly is John Cale, creator of the Velvets sound:
John Cale - Venus In Furs by thisisnofunatall
John Cale - I´m Waiting For The Man by ForARide
John Cale - Waiting For The Man by femmeBanale
See for yourself
no its not about heroin, its about a book called "venus is furs", by the austrian writer leopold von sacher masoch
That drummer really feels the shizzle 👍
I'm not gonna say it twice but that drummer really feels the shizzle
great work
Beck is awesome and definitely has a right
@JMB666 and alledgelly Beck's granpa (who was an artist) would have been the one who suggested the Velvet underground as a name to the velvets entourage...
great version!!! it's good it doesn't try to sound too much like the original (which is not bad either ;D)
Man, it's all about the music. Other shit doesn't matter
just search for "record club". you´ll find a lot of fun stuff....
Had a bit of "I Wanna Be Your Dog" at the beginning. Anyone agrees?
@JMB666 Maybe Beck is Andy's secret love child! No... wait.. oh yeah, that couldn't quite work...
Wow
i could not disagree with you more, i think this is a great cover
I agree. This is awesome. All of the other covers I've heard are just too obvious (except perhaps that by Christian Death).
Think you can grab them from a link from his official website..i could be wrong tho..
Fan fucking tastic! Any one who hasn't yet should check out Beck's cover of the Black Angel's Death Song, it's brilliant!
+ Mars in surf !!
Interesting rendition of this song. Has a very avant-garde feel to it. Although... his "I'm Waiting for the Man" cover was disappointing.
@Cuandoeslachupa Well, I did found it fairly similar, and apparently I'm not the only one.
I love the original, but this is my fav version! It really captures the spirit of the song.
I was hoping Beck, who can use his voice like Lou Reed, would approach this in a more minimalist way, an homage to the original. But there's too much noise.
Kedgwell absolutely! Would have been better if it was more "unplugged". Seems they are trying to recreate the heroin-fueled chaos that was VU... By making noise!
you do it better then. where's the Kedgwell Version ?
@beckmangroup it's a plus n my book
Tu si que sabes, noi.
thanks for postig this man! do you know where i can find all these tracks?
Greetings from Mexico!
nice, but miss the viola drones
Nobody matches John Cale's viola. The real musical mastermind behind the Velvets sound.
When the FUCK did fucking BECK rover a FUCKING VELVET UNDERGROUND SONG
And WHY DIDN'T ANYBODY TELL ME.
just love the verve of this cover...such a compliment to the original considering it's regarding a novella written 141 years ago
what makes you think that?
Well, lots of people do that. jack white for example. but, yeah, great cover.
He accidently a whole covers album?
WHEN WAS THIS RECORDED?
This cover is actually better than the original and I am a HUGE VU fan. I'm fairly certain Lou loved this version, FWIW.
please..
Ehhhhhh not sure about it being better than the original, but yeah Lou maybe might have liked it.
No, it is not.
Bacchic.
これいいっすねええ
i like beck, but this..........if you can't say something nice
It sounds like a scared dwarf lost in a market of giants, pitch the synth & guitar up please! argh that's enough of this lol
I might've liked this if it wasn't a cover of Venus In Furs. I like some of the sounds here, though. Not Beck's voice, natch!
i love beck but.... this cover?... not liking it i rather listen to the original.... its very creative though :)
Very “pre-Loser”.
Too bad you're closed-minded
Scientology approves of this version. That's why it sucks.
Covers are OK in general. But these covers suck.
Truly crappy cover of a beautiful song. Then again, I've never heard anybody successfully cover this song.
Doug Markwith because they are too sober!
The only thing better than the original is the original played twice... An extra whipping so to speak ... Still, a good version though
