Songkran Water festival in Khao San Road(12 April 2024)

Songkran is the Thai New Year's festival held every April, also known as the Water Festival. It is celebrated throughout Thailand, with particularly grand celebrations in major cities like Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Pattaya.
Khao San Road is a very popular area to celebrate Songkran.
Originally, Songkran involved the ritual of sprinkling water on Buddha statues for purification and extending this gesture to family and friends to wish them luck and blessings.
During the festival, people take to the streets with water guns and buckets, playfully splashing water on each other. This act symbolizes washing away misfortune and welcoming the new year with a fresh start.
The festivities include enjoying traditional foods, street parties, music, and dance. Songkran is a significant part of Thai culture and an attractive event for visitors, offering a vibrant and joyful way to experience local traditions.

Can tell people holding water gun and wanna let loose, but still having some reservations about smiling and shouting greetings to strangers/passerby, exchanging interaction more. It's cheery-festivity atmosphere, yet saad. Wasnt like this 10-20 years ago, we used to squirt at people and shout greetings back then. If not on this occasion, then where else better than here the opportunity to connect and meet new people? I think social media and Covid made alot of people awkward about expressing themselves now
