This is typically thalassophobia, I have it too so I understand. It is the fear of the deep ocean and what is in it and it is a category of the fear of the unknown. I feel you.

I am same. One thing that gets to me is the fact that I like to fly, so we flew up the beach in Ocean City, MD one time. It's crazy because when you are above the water, you can see almost to the bottom. Then I realized that there were literally SHARKS swimming in and out of all the people swimming!!! As I grew up around there and we were always swimming, but every now and then, I thought I felt something "bump" into me that I thought felt kinda rough. As I didn't know that sharks have rough skin and I wasn't even sure I had really felt it in I never really got scared that much! When you think about what attracts sharks is splashing, smells of food items, such as blood and stuff called "chum". Then I thought about exactly what happens in a resort town where literally hundreds of thousands of people are splashing and there are often many reasons for blood to be in the water along with all of the actual food that goes in the water, plus the fact that thousands are fishing in the same water you are swimming in, as well as going out further into the ocean you actually SEE sharks swimming around with NOTHING to stop them from going to the beach AND there have been not only sightings of huge man eater sharks coming right up to the beach and getting stranded along with whales swimming off shore in sight of the people as well as dolphins and every other thing that lives in the ocean! I stopped going in the water because, the way my luck always went, that first and only shark attack would be me! People just don't think about that. Here in RUclips, you can find video of all of these things!!
