    Catching up with videos starting from the older ones I've missed. I think you have a lot of company in the "what was I thinking?!?" area, but that happens with ready-to-wear clothes we purchase, too. I've been challenging myself to wear the items in my closet that never get out to play - some are made by me and some are not - to see what works and get information about what I really like to try to avoid constantly getting new things and either never sewing them or making them and then being disappointed. A little moratorium and rethinking is a good thing!

    Hi Carol! Taking the time to reflect on your wardrobe is a great idea!❤

      I think so too, Zelda! But I'm a little afraid of facing the truth 😒

    Hi Carol, it looks like you are in for an interesting and thought provoking journey - I think we all need to reassess things from time to time and I wish you all the very best. Your very pretty Kenneton dress toile looks most promising. The shoulders, bust and sleeves fit you beautifully. This is certainly worth making up again and tweaking the waist line as you have decided. I suspect this will become a TNT pattern for you - so such a win. It actually rained here today which is most welcome. This is the first real rain we have had for over six months. 🌸

      Hi Julie! I hope you're enjoying your holiday!!! It's good to hear that you've got some rain. We're supposed to get a little more this Saturday. It's so strange - we're usually done with our rain by now, but the last couple of years have been so different. But as California has had some pretty bad drought years (consecutively too) I never mind the rain. I just give thanks that we get it 😊 I've decided to make the Kineton dress in the press crepe de chine, because you're right - I think this will be a TNT pattern for me. Take care, Julie!

    Hi Carol some great ideas there! Maybe for your blue linen have you made the Eva dress from Tessuti it is a gorgeous lantern shape with a slightly higher waistline so it drapes from there quite nicely. And I have made several with a different fabric for the bodice so I was thinking your crepe on the top with the linen on the bottom would look lovely. I particularly like the top stitching in the skirt panels - I just think its very elegant. I'm playing around with different sleeve options now with this pattern as I like it so much ❤. I have also just started using Trello to record my patterns with notes etc found the blog from Helen's Closet about this! Happy sewing thanks for your channel Xx

    your ditsy floral dress is very pretty ❤ it sounds like you are on a good track of narrowing down what you like and don't like. i've definitely found that such a simple seeming task can end up being difficult because we have all this baggage built up in our heads about how we look or the lifestyle that we wish we had. it feels good to spend the time to figure out what we actually like on our real selves.

      Thanks Sara. But I realized I need to make adjustments to the ditsy floral. It's just not comfortable with the elastic so high up on my waist. I think if I loosen the elastic that should do it; I'll eventually figure something out mainly because I don't want to waist the lining I used! It sounds like you're doing a bit of reflection too these days. I hope you work through the loss of you dog. I had a little dog Oreo who passed away in 2016. I still think of him all the time especially since my old posts of him on Facebook show up in my memories feed. But now the pain of his loss is gone and I just remember the love. Take care, my friend!

    Hi Carol. We have similar coloring (I'm a brown-eyed redhead with fair skin). What I've found over the years is that the colors that I think look good on me have to be a bit muddy or foggy -- that is have some brown or gray or black mixed in. I love bright colors, but they are too much against my skin and hair and eyes (they make me look faded). And pastels have never really worked for me. At first I was disappointed to realize I needed faded colors to not overpower me. But I now think of it as needing colors with depth or subtlety instead of clear colors of simpler hues. That beautiful tangerine silk is lovely, but the color is very clear -- orange only with no overtones/undertones, or at least that's what it looks like on my monitor. I was nodding my head when you hinted at needing more of a rust color. You are going to have a fascinating month in May. Sending you wishes for enjoying the journey and the discoveries, Antonia

      @pollysews  6 месяцев назад

      Thanks Antonia! Yes, I've found that muted colors really are more flattering on me. And forget pastels; but that's ok because I really don't like pastels too much. How wonderful that you have red hair! Both my daughters are true (orange) redheads but with blue eyes. I'll probably sew up the tangerine silk, but maybe have to adjust my makeup on the days that I wear it. Hopefully after this month, with more thought and reflection, I'll stop making these types of purchases!

    We’re on the same page. I’m starting a wardrobe audit as I’m just feeling so lost. But I have the feeling by the end of it I won’t have much left. Good thing I have such a large fabric stash to sew up! 😂🤣

    • @pollysews
      @pollysews  6 месяцев назад

      You know Jane, I'd really like to throw out just about everything and start all over again. You'll have to update us on the progress of your wardrobe audit. I'm curious to see how much you keep and how much you donate/get rid off. Plus, it'll be fun to see what you make from your stash. My poor little stash contains so much fabric that isn't in my color palette. But it gives me an excuse to buy fabric that is!

    I love the thought of making me may, I’m going to try that as well. I normally make very dressy clothes and then I don’t have any casual clothes but, I’m not really sure how to dress casually. So this is a good time to reflect. Thanks for this idea.

      @@pollysews thanks I will. I live in the Bay Area so I shop at Stone Mountain and daughters, Britex and discount fabrics. I inherited most of my stash but, when I want to splurge, I take a road trip to the fabric district in LA.

    Hi Carol, I loved the orange silk when you held it up (of course I’m sure it looks different on the camera). You said something during the part of your video that you were showing the orange fabric, something like “you will see me coming a mile away.” My response is, is that bad? Is this something our mother’s would have said to us (I’m approx your age). I love colors and don’t mind being seen a mile away.😂 Your disconnect you speak of, that’s a good thing to dive into, because part of your spirit loved that orange fabric when you bought it and then what happened? As far as the shorts, maybe go try on a similar style in a store before making them?

    • @pollysews

      Hi Karen! You make so much sense. It's such a Catch-22 for me. I like to be noticed, but then, I don't like to be noticed. I'll sew up the orange silk (which does look good with the green linen/cotton blend) and just wear it and be proud! I appreciate your comments and sound advice! Plus I'd love to see some of the colors you wear!

    • @karenprovost2035
      @karenprovost2035 6 месяцев назад

      @@pollysews so I think a good place to focus would be that Catch 22. I love and wear all colors, I love color, pattern and texture and I always have. I grew up in a very conservative family, and that comment “seeing you coming a mile away” I’m sure I heard from someone in my family but not directed at me. My father did tell me once when I was in my thirties (married with children) not to wear a certain wildly colorful garment I made around him!🤣 I am now in my mid-sixties and want to express my creativity through my garments I’m making. I don’t frankly care what anyone thinks about what I wear. I don’t have any body image issues, I’m a size 18-20 in patterns. I also don’t believe in having my “colors done” for myself. I would never limit myself from a shade of color I love. I believe if you love what you’re wearing, and wear it with exuberance, that will shine through. My suggestion is to identify women that are style icon’s for you and then study their style and let that inspire your sewing style. Have you heard of the book & documentary Advanced Style? You can check out my i g page at karenlprovost. I’m not good about posting but have a handful of photos on there (note the color wheel garment and bug dress). 🤣🤣
