Id be lying if i say Meagor I isnt an Effective king, he fixed everything Aenys ruined, he destroyed the faith millitants, and he destroyed the rebel lords or kings, and those left that opposed him were only Taragryen loyalists. If Jaehaerys or Aegon the uncrowned took the throne instead of Meagor; they wouldnt have succeded in undoing what their father did. Meagor in my opinion was a necessary king.
Maegor is at least B tier. The dynasty would’ve been gone without him. F that guy but damn he was a king. And a lot of the stuff said about him is likely maester propaganda.
I think Aegon III deserves to be higher in my opinion because of the context of his trauma. He bore witness to the destruction that the Dance brought to westeros and the death of his mother at the hands of his wretched uncle and was forced to be subservient to multiple regents and hands. Despite all of that, he put in the effort as soon as he was of age to rule and did keep the peace in westeros for the next 21 years until his passing to pneumonia in 157AC. He also had Vizzy 2 be his hand, so that bumps him up higher. Had he been given a therapist or psychiatrist, he would've been a great king or at least more competent and it makes me sad that the line of Dragonbane isn't the DIRECT line of Jon Snow, Dany, and Young Griff....😢
Hot take: Aegon IV wasn’t all bad as a king. Hear me out. 1. Consolidation of Power: Say what you want about his selfishness, but Aegon IV kept the monarchy strong and centralized. The Iron Throne’s authority didn’t crumble under him, which is better than some other rulers who let the realm fall into chaos. 2. Military Readiness: Love him or hate him, the guy made sure Westeros had a strong military. He didn’t let the royal fleet or armies fall apart, and that’s a win for stability. 3. Cultural Boosts: His tournaments and feasts were over the top, sure, but they gave work to the common folk and kept the nobility entertained. Honestly, that’s a better use of gold than letting it sit in a vault. 4. Infrastructure Projects: Say what you will about his motives, but Aegon’s vanity projects expanded the royal fleet and created jobs. Sometimes selfish kings accidentally help the realm. 5. House Targaryen’s Legacy: Legitimizing all his bastards caused chaos later (hello, Blackfyre Rebellions), but it DID ensure Targaryen bloodlines survived. Long-term play? Maybe. 6. Diplomatic Efforts: His arranged marriages and alliances weren’t always great, but they show he was at least trying to keep the houses in check politically. so stfu yes he was a good king
Tournaments are very underrated, yes they cost a lot, but they make the bussineses in the area flourish. And strength is the best thing you should have as a king, and infrastructures are good too. But legitimizing his bastards wasn't good at any means, if he really wants his bloodline to survive he should have more trueborn offsprings, and not going out wh***ing. The Blackfyre rebellions were the biggest threats to destroying his house. But also if he did that Brynden Rivers wouldnt have had any power, bloodraven was evil I'm his way, but everything he did was in the good of the realm, or even the good of the entire world.
Don't forget his son (who I lean towards the idea that he's actually Aegon's nephew). Daeron II helped carry on his father's/uncle's stability for 12 more years until the First Blackfyre rebellion in 196AC.
aegon the v had no way of knowing what would happen at summerhall so i dont blame him for that as the goal of returning dragons is something more kings should have pressed, reforms for the small folks were good and if he had ruled longer the lords would have gotten used to them just like how the good queen abolished the right of the knight
@ my point was he had already delt with the nobilities revolts and they would have eased into the reform just like other controversial reforms, that’s like saying civil rights movement was bad because it left a large portion of the county angry

But he did do a lot of impulsive, brutal things that made the realm turn on him

Yeah but we don’t know. We only know what the maesters said

That’s a fair point but I still think he should be B

the only good thing Aegon IV did was cause an insanely interesting chain of rebellions that will make for great TV over the next decade or two
@@caleb.cannon he did let the Royal fleet fall apart 😂 he tried to invade Dorne and the fleet was destroyed during a storm

Summerhall was still because of him. Having the smallfolk on your side is good but not when the nobility hates you

Aegon 1 is a A tier not S. Had he conquered Dorne I'd accept, but he was held away by a letter, no great king would accept that.
He couldn’t do what Robert could, and he had the mightiest dragon in the world.
I agree
Robert didn’t do that
I think it’s more impressive what he did once he got the throne
@@Lord_Zone_ by overthrowing the Targaryens Robert conquered the 7 kingdoms. Dorne didn’t rebel against him
