      Just as you missed the message, on this historical video.
      For example there's lots of London slang going on, in this particular broadcast.
      As explained:
      1. It was filmed in summer....hardly atmospheric.
      2. Hardly lamp glow.....it was filmed in a studio....ALL inside shots.
      I'm from Kensington and Chelsea in London.....I understood.

    And, George played every instrument when he recorded it - wrote, sang, arranged, produced - playing all of it. I do wonder how many people got the idea that her "heart" had been the gift to him the at Christmas the year before and basically he was regifting that heart in the current Christmas. It was subtle but very clever. As usually with GM. I don't know if there others in George's position who were as generous as he was as in the relationship with Andrew who did nothing but basically show up for performances. Their arrangement worked for them and George said he never resented it but that is the sort of human he was - generous and kind. Others would have long left the group and gone solo but George felt he needed the "support" as he called it, he got from having Andrew in Wham!

      So he was regifting her heart from the previous year in the lyrics! 😮

    A fantastic snippet Albert from a radio interview I’ve never heard before! I very much appreciate the additional context given in the description of each video. I’d love to just be able to see everything available in your archive but that would get rid of the excitement of waiting for a new upload! I’ve had a look through my own personal collation of material and come across this Spanish radio interview from radio station Cadena 100. From what I gather, it was conducted during Patience’s promotional period and is an interesting listen like usual. Hope everything is going well. 🙌

    I love George Michael, I have enjoyed his music, including careless whisper and last Christmas, but I think this song is definitely neithet "original" nor "novel", it has copied a late 70's song "can't smile without you" by Barry Manilow and the Carpenters. The tune, the melody are almost identic. George Michael was back then legally accused of plagiarism, but the whole thing was then settled out of court. My point is not that George has stolen the music, but how painful and unfair for the writers of the original song must be, seeing last Christmas year after year getting all this attention and airplay without getting a minimum credit or a good word for that...pretty frustrating I guess

      So tired of everybody out there saying George did everything and Andrew was just along for the ride and he just put his name on everything to make sure Andrew would be set for life because George was a good friend.
      The only truth in that statement is George was a good friend. Read both of their books… You’ll see Andy did a lot of work too.
      Wham! Ended because that was always the plan. It wasn’t because everyone thought George was the star.
      I won’t go into detail here, but you can read both of their biographies to learn more

    I've read so many platitudes here undeserved.
    Here's my take:
    1. It's a classic Christmas song of course.
    2. It's of its time.
    3. George was not a musical genius. He was heavily influenced by Bee Gees and Elton John.
    He was a songwriter. Great singer. Average musician.
    4. He lead a debauched lifestyle eventually; as his talent dried up and his voice waned.
    He was ultimately a fool to himself; and died too young.

    • @wham
      @wham  2 года назад +10

      He wasn't a musical genius because he had influences? I don't think a fool writes Careless Whisper at 18 years old. He wrote, performed, produced and played every single instrument on Last Christmas.
      His talent never dried up either, sure he could've taken better care of his voice and himself, but he was working on music up until the very end of his life.

    • @creativesource3514
      @creativesource3514 Год назад +1

      Ok well who is a musical genius? It's a matter of definition. Chopin? Mozart? Bowie? Prince?
      So judging is pointless as it's subjective. Some people could not care less about Elton or beegees either.
      But we think GM was a prolific song writer and arranger. Beegees and Elton were influenced by many. Elvis was influenced by black music. Liszt was influenced by Chopin. So what?
