ON the other hand @the hunting public You walked and then stayed in his field of fire... and are you not also pointed down in that field where that hunter is waiting? if you were to fire at anything would it not also be in his direction? I think this argument goes both ways, the only difference is this hunter wasn't there to just get footage for a youtube video.
Like you saw he was working that field, and then camped there in the way and now your all offended that he was attempting to hunt, like some self reflection will do us good here.

I went to go refill my feeder last week and I bent down to mess with my trail cam and heard something walking behind me, my feeder was about three miles back in the woods so I knew it wasn't a person so I stand up and turn around and its a buck I've had on camera a few times about 20 yards away from me staring at me so I'm standing there watching him and he eases in to about 8 or 9 yards away so I pull my pistol out and was gettin ready if he was feeling froggy and we had about a 6 second stare off and I finally moved and he galloped off a little bit. He watched me the whole time I refilled it and as soon as I left he started eating. Very interesting experience.

I have had many crazy things happening to me while hunting; hunting on a public land my first year moving to Maryland from Arizona, I saw total of 22 hunters in one morning. One guy literally walked within 15 feet away clearly knowing where I was sitting.
Another time I found a long forgotten family grave deep in middle of forest. One time while walking back to my truck in the dark, way out in middle of nowhere after hunting all day, saw a falling star stopping falling in middle of the sky, stayed in the spot for few seconds then zoomed back straight up into the sky. Not sure what I saw....

I put up a decoy deer archery target behind my barn complete with antlers to sight my bow in and practice on. Left it set up for a couple weeks until one day I saw it was destroyed and laying everywhere on the ground. Upon inspection, the ground was full of buck tracks all around. I guess he didn't like the competition. So I re assembled it and set it back up and waited. A few weeks later, I had thought nothing had messed with it, but I was wrong. Upon inspection, the hole hind quarters had huge claw marks down the ass. Big cat tried to take it down. Wish I had set a camera out on it.

I've been shot at (3 shots from one guy!!) while wearing a full orange suit after a storm dropped 4 inches snow the night before. But....the craziest thing was to see a cow explode while hunting. After cleaning out my pronghorn, I had look around to see if my family was headed back towards me or not. I then looked over a little hill close by and saw a dead cow maybe a quarter mile away. Not uncommon for Wyoming, but about two seconds later he just exploded. I've not been to war or anything close to it, but that is what I imagine happens when a grenade or some sort of explosive goes off.....stuff is everywhere and you cannot tell what is what. I can't possibly describe the wave of smells that hit me within seconds but I assure you my stomach was empty afterwards. THP you guys rock!

I was set on a buck trail, on the edge of a wilderness slew in northern Minnesota, trying to get on a target animal I laid eyes on during summer scouting. Right at closing I heard a big animal coming down the trail and a massive black and gray Timberwolf emerged from the pines, looked right up at me, and stared me down at 12 yards. Then it lapped up some water, huffed a few times, looked around, and ambled down the swamp edge. I would rather have seen the target buck, but I will never forget that Timber staring me down.

Last hunting season me and a buddy went to this spot in Virginia in the Western Mountain public land that I found the pervious season walking around in Rifle Season. We left my place a 1 am and drove 1.5 hours away to this spot. We hiked up the mountains from 2:30 and finally where set up at 5:30. It’s 2 miles in going up several steep slopes. Like the ones you have to crawl up. We get set up and settled in and hear deer moving around us in the dark. It’s the End of October and can barley stand the anticipation of daylight. Just at day break we hear something running towards us. And soon after hear dogs barking It was a doe and she darted through the shooting lane. After that at about 10-15 min intervals some one was running bear dogs and another one would come through. We counted 11 different dogs, which then came back through a second time. It lasted to almost lunch time and completely wrecked our plans and our hunt. But oh well I guess that’s more motivation to get my own property some day haha. Even though all that happened I loved being out there!

Wow...just f'ing WOW. You couldn't buy those experiences from me for 5 billion dollars (hm...ok, maybe 5), but jeez guys! All of that was PRICELESS! Made me so jealous, especially the shot at the end of all you guys sitting around the table sharing those experiences together. I hope y'all know how unimaginably fortunate (well earned, btw) yall are.

The fact the guy shot six times at a deer means he shouldn’t be hunting I was taught one shot to kill if you can’t make that shot don’t waste your time

Same the only time I shot at a deer twice was a buck that didn't run more than ten feet my first shot hit a fence I could not see in my scope that was right in front of me

Another crazy thing thats happened to me besides getting shot at. Since north Carolina allows dog hunting, I used to hunt in a bear sanctuary in a public land management area, since they would run the dogs through there. Once I was walking through there to get to a spot heard something above me in the tree, before I could look up a black bear jumped from about 15 feet out of the tree and took off through the woods. Needless to say I had my head on a swivel. Never went back in the dark and would leave with enough time to get out before dark.

I got into trapping recently. I was trapping Fisher cats on public land. I was a real foggy morning and the leaves were wet so it was quiet I got going along and had two bears coming rite to me from the opposite direction. I wait for the fog to burn off now 😂

    • @justinmailloux549

Ryan Barrows VT the state with highest number of hunters per capita in the country I do believe. Broken up lands, little public land with decent habitat, poor buck to doe ratio. I think the new laws will help balance the herd, but we need better public land habitat. I wish I still lived in the Champlain valley, there you can find some public marsh land that you can hunt on like Dan Infalt does in Wisconsin. Although living on the NH border now opens me up to a lot more opportunities.

My crazy story happened on my buddies deer lease near Whichita falls Texas. Last day of gun season early in the morning we were hunting the far back stand on the edge of the property. I was looking thru the binoculars and the game warden walked in my line of sight on the neighbors property behind the feeder. He never came up to us but what was crazy was for him to get to the rural spot, he had to have been walking in the dark for 2 hours solo without a flashlight..

I always have a tree to hide behind when shooting starts. First thing we were taught be by a tree as wide as your shoulders and if the shooting sounds close get down. It's the ones that you wouldn't hear that scare me.

It never ceases to amaze me that when people miss their first shot on a presumably still deer that they will continue to sling lead at a moving target. WV rifle opener was today, and I heard the same gun take 5 shots in about a 35 second period. Baffles me.

When I was hunting on private land my father and I were sitting in two different trees maybe 12 yards apart and we were ready to get down and all the sudden a doe jumped from behind some bushes but she didn’t blow so he said let’s wait she might bring a buck back. 5 minutes later that doe brought back an 8 point and I was sitting in a double seater ladder stand and the buck went all the to behind my stand so I slowly I slowly turned around an I had a 30-30 so I pulled the hammer back and it went clank. So I looked at dad and he asked did you shoot and I said yes and he said pull the hammer back again, but through all this we knew this deer had never seen humans before but I pulled the hammer back again and clank and he said load another round in there. The shell was empty because we were shooting the day before and as soon as the shell hit the swat he was gone even though he stayed for all the other stuff.

I once had a squirrel break a small dead limb above my head, resulting in the squirrel falling on my head and running down my neck before jumping off my shoulder. My buddy was staring right at me when it happened and I can’t possibly explain the look on his face.

The craziest thing I’ve ever seen was when I was spring turkey hunting. It was youth season and we were evening hunting. There were 2 hen s about 200 yards out and they started fighting. While they were fighting one of the hens went into full strut. The other hen went into half. It was amazing to watch in person.

Craziest thing to ever happen to me on public land is during early muzzleloader season in Kentucky. Me and my wife was sitting on the ground bow hunting and we ended up having 15 coyotes out in front of us coming straight to us. They got within 5 yards and finally ran away. But the scariest encounter is when I started hunting by myself and watched two huge trees just fall over with in 100 yards of me and never seen what caused it to fall over then an hour later, had a small black ape like creature hiding in behind a tree looking at me. Kinda scary being only 15 hunting by yourself for the first time.
