The Africa Festival Würzburg has been established in 1989 and is the largest festival for African music and culture in Europe. More than 400 groups and individual artists from 56 African and Caribbean countries have performed live on stage in Würzburg so far and represented the cultural wealth of the African continent to more than 2.100.00 visitors.

I just have to say, I was born in 1965. I grew up in the apartheid era. As a 'white' English South African. I was bullied for being English. All my friends were Africans. When I was 18, I drove into Tembisa. I lived in Joburg. Everyone would say to me, are you crazy? As a single white girl, driving into Tembisa. I never saw 'colour' per se. My best friends were black South Africans. We went to the Eric Clapton, Joan Armatrading concert in Lesotho, back in the day. International performers were banned in South Africa during the apartheid era, so we had to go to Lesotho or Sun City, in order to see international bands, artists. I was one of, just about 10 white people at the concert. I had no fear. It was probably very naïve of me, driving into Tembisa, but I am still here today, at the age of 58. Amazing experience. Kids of today have no idea what we lived through.

The choir leader deserves so much gratitude and love for creating this choir and believing in them. He's unique. I saw him crying when talking about them and their struggles.
The crying is the sellling point. African people must be always seen to be crying and begging for help. The are countless countless choirs like this in South Africa, this nothing new. The crying and the poverty is a very good marketing strategy. People in Africa are used to live in poverty thanks to the corrupt politicians, and beleive me people don't walk around crying, they just get on with life, it's only when you put a camera in their face and ask them (are you suffering bla bla ) that they tell you what you want to hear, otherwise people have tough skin.
Life is meant to be hard, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Greatest indigenous youth choir on the planet. Thanks in big part to a man who could live within privilege if he wanted to but Ralf Schmitt chose instead to be a man with a great heart. If I got it right, there is a language spoken in Namibia, Setswana, which has a lot of clicks.

@@abellabv Xhosas, Zulus, Ndebele, Swati and. Sotho, all got their clicks from Khoi/San language, their interactions and intermarriages between them Bantus and Khoi/San. Infact the word Xhosa is a San name, meaning - angry man.

I don't know how many times I have watched this, it is quite exhilarating and exquisite to be recognised as Africa 🌍 through these youths. You really have made an impact and shaken the entertainment world 🗺. So proud to be South African and to cap it all ibumba elimnyama.

I just love the energy, the vibrancy, the music, their dances, the songs….so uplifting with cultural elements that it is hard to forget and ignore and reunites us with unity and cohesivenesses. I can always rewatch their performances over and over again!
