39:30 They are waiting so far back because the UK style motorway road doesn't enable "Hugo Through" as its treated as a 6 lane two way road instead of two seperate highways, without lane connectors they could actually come down a ramp and cross over the motorway. They are so far back as they use the lines that you can adjust in Node Controller as their stop line

When you added in the new power plant, you used anarchy to put it in. This allowed the existing industrial buildings to still be there and clip through the plant. The same thing with the new water treatment facility.
I love your videos and I'm so glad I'm finally all caught up!

  • @quantumkong8118

I think I've noticed the traffic problem. On the third roundabout coming in from the motorway, you have the incoming lane to left turn only, so there's no other oprions for them to go anywhere else but the industrial area and back round

    • @CouchPotator
      @CouchPotator 2 года назад +11

If you're referring to the tiny roundabout, the cars aren't forced to turn left, but they do seem to be forced to using that 1 lane that goes left or straight. Changing things, he could make the left lane go right only, the the right lane go straight and right. That would better utilize the roundabout.

    • @flyingd0206
      @flyingd0206 2 года назад

The arrows say left, because the vehicles are turning left to enter the roundabout, rather than forcing them to take the first left turning off of the roundabout. My satnav says the same thing on a lot of real roundabouts.

That huge line of traffic heading almost off the map at the end of the video... Here's my thought.
That secondary, temporary interchange off of the highway has a huge advantage over the first, main one - it's not leading into a tiny, problematic roundabout. It just dumps straight into the residential area. And I'm willing to bet that the VAST majority of those cars still trying to get in are trying to get to the residential area to move in. So here's my suggestion: 41:24 - that collector that leads from the interchange roundabout to the middle-sized roundabout. Disable private vehicles from using it. Let trucks and services through but ban private vehicles. Doing so should force all of those private vehicles to get out of the line and continue down the highway to the other interchange, where they have a straight shot to the residential area, while also letting all of the other vehicles - especially the vehicles trying to bring fuel to your power plants - get in through the city, where their destinations are usually a lot closer. Once the incoming move-in traffic is all cleared out and things settle down, you can lift the private vehicle ban on the main interchange and get rid of the secondary one.

Heya Biffa! Hope you're soon feeling well again.
Just 2 things I noticed that were probably causing some issues:
    1) After you replaced the roads on the Problem-a-bout, the pedestrian crossing was allowed again for one junction (the one where you put the pedestrian bridge above). Which is probably what's still hindering the cars going round.
    2) It looks like the "highway" roads you are using aren't actual highway roads. They still have pedestrian-crossing options (as seen with Traffic Manager) and thus have the cars not enter junctions by default.
Keep up the great content. See you next time. :)

Loving the UK theme Biffa, done a few different maps with these roads and they do have little niggles but look amazing especially the slip lanes on motorways. If you look at 30:04 you notice a yellow car coming on the roundabout. Every vehicle that tries to use that lane disappears as they all have to go left into industry hence traffic. I would recommend trying to re do that mini roundabout to solve pedestrians and traffic directions. But well done! look forward to next one!

24:18 A few things to add about the exit, there's usually about 5-700 meters (up to about 1km) between highway exits. Around where I live, quite often an on-ramp almost leads immediately to an off-ramp by roughly 50-100 meters. So yeah, it is very realistic to have them so close. More often than not when going from one place to another in my town, you're on the highway for roughly 10 seconds before you leave it again (unless there's a lot of traffic on the busier highway)

Have tended to have bungalows be dotted around the outside of an older housing estate, usually alongside 1950's - 1970's types of non council houses. Also a multi-story car park, if such a mod or existing building exists. Would be great to see, if you decide to expand the high street further at some point. There was one thing that one of the later SimCity games did that I wish CS would do, is that when placing a zone, you could specify a direction as the "front". That way all the buildings in that area would grow in facing the "front" edge of the zone. The "front" still had to face a road, but at least when you had narrow zones with roads on both sides, you could better control which direction the buildings would grow in. I'm wondering if the city could use a small industrial and commercial node at the new interchange end of the city. That might split some of the traffic between the two ends of the city. Just so that not everybody has to go through that one roundabout in order to get to the main shopping center and the sole industrial area.

As a semi-proud Scunthonian, your extra motorway connection is starting to look a lot like the M180/181 Scunthorpe junctions, the population isn't quite what it would be irl but as a satellite view it doesn't look at all silly. If you want to boost the realism maybe consider adding some small villages away from the main town, with those substations to supply power so they don't need a direct connection (or pylons, especially if there's a smaller telegraph-style pylon on the workshop, idk how these things work really).

if you look at maps of most coal fired power stations in the UK they usually have a open air coal warehouse next to them and are away from industrial estates with maybe a tree like splitting road to them directly from a major highway (A road or motorway) I would suggest maybe as you now have two Battersea plants move them to the other side of the motor way of that main roundabout off of you M road. It would then cause your heavy coal lorries to split away from the traffic heading into the Town and also move the pollution to the other side of the M road also.

COVID and young children is an absolute nightmare. I teach 7-9 year olds. At one point, had 15/26 left in class - all positive LFD/confirmatory PCR. Interestingly, poorly for 48-72hrs beforehand before testing positive.

You should name the clone of Battersea power station next door to it and call it Batter-tea. Not only is it a Tea pun it's the next letter in the alphabet to S, like where you'd have [Powerplant] A and [Powerplant] B literally next door.
Also, for a future power station, you need one with a "Merry-Go-Round" coal railway terminal. Build a one-way loop like you did with the airport cargo terminal in New Tealand, basically.
Also: (gasps for air) The UK motorways act as your regular multi-lane roads do, as they are essentially just that, except they render a piece of grass median on junctions. This is why they are keeping the junction clear by default. You're going to have to remember to change every junction to allow them to "block" the "junction" using these roads.

Those three roundabouts one after another at the city entrance is a bit much I think. I’d consider removing the ability to turn into the high rises from the smallest roundabout so it’s basically dedicated to the retail park.
You can then connect the two roads at either side of the high rises that currently end just on the edge of the main road to the industrial area. That will get traffic going to the high rises to come off at the first big roundabout which should be faster/smoother.
For traffic coming in the other direction they can still get to the high rises from the junction just after the small roundabout.

Of course it could be that I live at almost 10,000 ft in the Rockies and it’s been consistently below freezing the last couple of weeks. Regardless glad you and the family are well. Keep up the great work Biffa!

Short term fix, ban cars from entering the town at the main junction, forcing them to go to the new junction. It will filter the cars from getting entangled with the industrial/retail traffic and roundabouts etc and they will enter the town right where the new houses are. It is clearly a more fluid way into town as traffic from that direction has already cleared.

Endless Terrace houses. I assume that's how british housing is. I like letting the game do it's thing with basic styles rather than pasting the same house again and again and again.... Depends on what your used to. In Australia it's generally uncommon for 20 to 30 houses in a row being 100% identical. So its a matter of personal what your used to.

Trains needing 11k population. That's gotta be a excessivly buildable map. Like not much high mountains and ocean in the way.. Makes sense though for english countryside, is mostly just tree's and pastures over rolling hills(which fall under buildable, unlike mountains).

I think I found your traffic problem on the little round about in front of retail row! The second intersection where you built the pedestrian crossing isn’t set to “you go through” I noticed it the second time you checked it. The one that you selected was for the incoming traffic. Not the ones on the roundabout. Hopefully this helps!

Biffa, i know you wont like to do this, but the tiny roundabout...
    It has to go...
It is too small for the amount of traffic it has to handle
I can only see 2 solutions on how to solve it:
    1. Remove the roundabout and make it a regular light-controlled junction.
    2. Move the entrance to The Wave Retail Park off the main artery road and connect it to one of the collector roads.

Some British towns and cities now have a defunct Victorian railway station adjacent to a new modern railway station. Wolverhampton does, for one. That'd work nicely in your partially Victorian city.

Turn the shopping center 90° clockwise to get that main entrance off the main inlet, and delete the little round-about or move it around too. I think that will solve the problem.

  • @Beshman12

The biggest issue you've got with traffic, is that all traffic has to hit that small roundabout, the main route off of the highway shouldn't be impeded with things like that and have slip lanes on/off to keep flow going. Also thats a teeny roundabout for that amount of traffic trying to use it
Also, the reason the demand goes down, is because the game thinks that buildings are being abandoned, meaning there's no demand for housing as people are moving out. Tis annoying indeed, but if you can stomach the pain, using the eyedropper or plop the growables for each house XD
