    Nice Video. :-)
    As a M1 Carbine owner I was always under the impression that there was also an M2 bolt which was round as opposed to the M1 bold whaich is flat.

  • @adcosteve
    @adcosteve  15 лет назад +5

    There is a round "M2" bolt, but both bolts work fine in either M1 or M2 configuration.

    Why do I think the M1/M2 carbine is the coolest rifle ever??

    • @curtrn
      @curtrn 3 года назад +1

      Because it is !

  • @nofortunatesonII
    @nofortunatesonII 11 лет назад +3

    The round bolt is not an "M2" bolt. The M2's were only produced using the round bolt, but the round bolts came out prior to the introduction of the M2 carbine.

    The conversion is simple. You can easily find the parts or make them. What you need to understand is that the ATF has strict rules that pretty much make this illegal to do and there are stiff prison penalties for doing so

    Parts are out there, Most of the time, people who sell M2 carbine parts ask to see a copy of your form 4. Stuff like trigger housings and slides are no big deal. Its when you look for selectors, #9 spring, and trip leavers and so on. Be careful with this stuff!!!

    • @seanbreheny9777
      @seanbreheny9777 3 года назад

      I think the reason for this is that many later M1 carbines were assembled or re-fitted using M2 parts but there were a few such parts that were not used unless full auto operation was desired (like the selector and other items you mention here). This makes the M1/M2 somewhat unique because usually the ATF will get you in trouble if you even have a receiver (for say an M16 or AK) with the appropriate cut-outs to accept the full-auto parts, even if you don't have those parts. But for the M1 carbine, many of the receivers have the cutouts for these parts and are perfectly legal as long as you don't obtain a full set of parts (as I understand it) to make it an M2.

    adcosteve, you had better be careful, or the worthless thugs at the BATF will say this is illegal....!!!!
    Cool video, I wish more of the weapon videos on youtube were like this, this has some really good info, thanks.

  • @DFX2KX
    @DFX2KX 11 лет назад +2

    yeah, they're really picky about that. considering how simple the change really is. I'm not sure I could blame them in the M2's case. If I understand correctly, you've got to have a manufacturer more or less certify that the ability to install a military parts kit has been undone. That's not usually worth the trouble.

    You forgot to mention that an M1 carbine with an m1 reciever can never be converted to an M2 unless it has an m2 reciever to begin with

  • @wwood14

    someone told me the 30 caliber carbine has better ballistics than the 357 magnum. Then they complain that it is to weak.. I wonder how hot a load can the M1 carbine handle?? Can you get 2000 ft/sec out of it??

  • @CascadianPatriotII

    Put an M2 trigger in an Auto-Ordnance AOM160 (modernized M1), you'd have a great carbine.

    Interesting, I didn't know it was FA operated by means of the Op-Rod, reminds me of how the M14 operates. How is the recoil on FA?

    Did the M2 ever get a heavier barrel? Are these affordable guns?? Good video.

  • @marinehotel
    @marinehotel 11 лет назад +6

    I recently had a carbine with M2 stamped on the receiver with the guts removed...I took so much grief I returned it to the gun shop...not worth the hassle....everything I was able to learn is that the ATF still considered it a machine gun.

  • @castanza128

    most (since they're milsurp) have the auto bolt....just need to have the potbelly stock (which has room on the left for the selector)
    theoretically speaking, of course.....changing these arts is a quick trip to prison unless you're an SOT or something

    You make this look so easy. But its realy not that easy to "pick up a m2 trigger group" as the batf has marked it as a "machinegun" There are plenty of Books/manuals showing how to machine the m1 group but you still have to find the selector auto seer hammer 9 spring and selector switch. And a couple other parts,LoL,
