    Just FYI, the SS weren't elite - the SS were a paramilitary organisation parallel to the armed forces (the Wehrmacht) and were the armed wing of the Nazi Party. Some individual units were "elite" and some were little better than conscripts (indeed, many were conscripts). The myth that they were elite units stemmed from the fact that in order to join the SS you had to be racially "pure" and in Nazi propaganda these units were portrayed as comprising supermen who couldn't be defeated. This proved to be somewhat inaccurate.

    • @bertellijustin6376
      @bertellijustin6376 2 года назад

      Thank you! So tired of hearing the ww2 baddies propaganda still being spouted out this many years later. The Wermacht was the home of WW 2 Germanys most elite units. Only a few SS divisions even fought on par with the average wermacht unit and those were generally heavy tank units. The SS were just snazzy dressers and great propagandists. Piss poor soldiers over all.

    • @bertellijustin6376
      @bertellijustin6376 2 года назад

      But one thing, you really described the SS, however the Waffen SS was the fighting arm of the SS. The SS was paramilitary but the Waffen SS were generally at least “professional” soldiers if also savages and animals. Everything else you said, spot on.

      I got into arguments on game channels when sb for example posted memes mocking the people that got shot by a militia kid at a blm rally. Not cause I wanted the other person to share my viewpoint, but it spoiled the hobby space imho. Sb being a racist edgelord shouldn’t be dominating such a public space. I disagree with northern exile that left politics rule the public space generally, as some kind of liberal identity politics theater does, more interesting ideas like class consciousness don‘t even make it to the public 😅while we beat ourselves up over who‘s the real totalitarian/racist/cosmopolitan, the upper class adds a couple zeros to their bank accounts and laughs at our idiocy.

    Istg that was the best ending to a Wolfebstein-style of a DnD roleplay, that ending would be stellar in some Netflix show about WW2. Everyone cheering on the Allies/Resistance and feeling iffy about the SS turncoat but in the end the SS proved to be the true hero whilst ending the life of a truly evil and supposed “Ally” (Whom we all might relate to since maybe the Resistance female probably had her parents or some close family member murdered by the SS so she had been scarred to oblivion so she would only see red when seeing a Nazi specially a SS. But still went too far with the good guy SS and wouldn’t see reason, so although sad about her death the audience would feel some sort of relief). That must have been such a fun Campaign.

      @adamsboringvids 2 года назад +4

      I disagree I think ‘safety tools’, or at least a general discussion about ground rules is just good GMing and being concerned for your players experience. Everyone has red lines. I play WOD games and I wouldn’t be interested in doing a campaign which involved violence towards children. I’m sure others have issues around sexual violence. I don’t see the harm in making sure everyone is enjoying themselves or at least having no issues with content. That being said if the GM greenlit a character who could say ‘only feed on kids’ (I have similar issues with The Cleaver predator type) or whatever I’d walk away not pull a Natalie.

      @@bopaintsminis I don’t think so. Stuff doesn’t have to be ‘degenerate’ to be upsetting. Being able to let the GM know that you’d like a break in a scene because your not happy with the way something’s going down easily and quickly can stop something small becoming something big. I don’t see it as gatekeeping just good housekeeping. Plus I’d rather know quickly if I’m upsetting my players than find out after the session that something about a scene upset them.

    For real though, imo keep the real-life politics the hell away from hobby gaming: the only slant of politics in a session should be in-universe ones that serve as background info. For example, if the game is set in an Imperial hive city, there should be no place for any IRL politics and only the bare minimum of in-verse ones, say if you have a character who is running or holding a position in the hive's nobility etc. Given the rest of the comments here, I can concur this to be the general opinion here thankfully.

    Say no to extremism, but don't kick people out for having opinions, only when you can't resolve your differences and agree to disagree.
    You can't just stay out of politics either, especially if it's about something local. You do actually have a responsibility to participate, if not a literal one, at least a moral one, something gen-x and millenials have completely abandoned, just leaving it to "other people" which is why the average politician is the same age as Ramses II.
    We have gigantic problems not just on our door step, but happening right now.
    The EU/US is trying to drag us into war with Russia (for better or worse and the better isn't "helping Ukraine" it's to kickstart our economies).
    Food/gas/living is through the roof and still rising, we're headed into a record setting recession as a consequence of the idiotic restrictions and lockdowns from the past couple of years.
    We, the people, are losing rights every single year and we're about to lose the tiny bit of influence we have left to the digitilization of our currencies within a couple of years.
    Corporate and governmental corruption is at an extreme, covered up with social justice and other small minded rhetoric that distracts us.
    It's okay to put it all on pause to go play some 40k, but that's not what's happening, people are avoiding it all wholesale and focus on the ESG narratives as some sort of course correction for "our sins".
    I don't care if people agree with me, as long as they understand the points I make and then make an informed decision to have a different position if that's what they choose, but it is frighteningly few people capable of doing this consciously.
    What's my point? The rest of our natural lives, us living right now, are headed towards a very hard existence and everyone is wearing blinders. It's not a question of being negative, this is going to happen whether you want it or not and if you have kids, you should think about how you'll secure their future to be self dependent and capable. There's no room for weak boys or selfish girls.
    And I'm not sorry for the rant :)

    Agree to keep politics out of the hobby, but puh-lease.... UKIP is not centre right. They were far-right on like 75% of topics, and had significant numbers of far right members.
    They're authoritarian, populist, hard nationalist, xenophobic, and they call such delightful individuals as Tommy Robinson their advisers. They're explicitly Islamophobic in frequent public statements, and their membership continues to radicalise in recent years.
    If this story was pre-2019, then yeah, they were a bit more central. I'd never say they were cente-right, but I'd settle for right-wing until 2019. After then, they became distinctly hard-right, and it's not even deniable.

      @@oriondrop8932 I did say this elsewhere in the comments. So long as he didn't bring politics into the store he shouldn't have been banned. My issue is claiming UKIP are even remotely central.

      They may be right wing, but so what? If you think that it is inherently immoral to be right wing, then you are a moron. And I say that as mostly a centrist with very varying political opinions.

    • @AllThingsCubey
      @AllThingsCubey 2 года назад +3

      Agreed. They were fully right-wing pre-2019, and have been far-right ever since. Dangerously far right. Literally have Tommy Tobinson, of EDL fame, as their adviser, and frequently make open statements of Islamophobia, xenophobia, and authoritarian policy. I have significant doubts of Exile's impartiality to suggest even for a moment that a party like UKIP is central whatsoever.
      Now, the guy in the story may have run for UKIP pre-2019, and been a moderate even by that measure. He might just have felt betrayed over Brexit by the Tories, but the thing is... most UKIP protest over brexit was that it was not hard enough/ it didn't go far enough to the hard right desires some had for the referendum (anti-immigrant, xenophobic/racist). Whilst it's not okay to ban him from the store just for running for UKIP, especially if he never talked politics around them, I can understand it driving a wedge through the group. Running as a UKIP candidate is a pretty heavy statement of support for some generally unpleasant views, and it's gonna make a lot of people re-think their opinions of you.
