This is an excellent option for instant workshop setup. Really appreciate that you give it two years of use before reviewing. Love the Mario sound effects too!!
@@leannalarson23 that’s right, you were born for the camera, my dear. I do think it would be better if we got those 6 inch risers and ended up going with a 2‘ x 4‘ as opposed to a 4‘ x 8‘. Either way, fun was had by all.
Thank you so much. The shop is the perfect explanation of dualistic thinking. Perfect just as it is yet always progressing. It’s definitely a passion. The table itself has been instrumental a different points throughout the Shop update. This type of a table I think has a place in anyone’s roster.
yep.. not a fan of MDF either. But have noticed that over the years that festool is using it. I often wondered if there is an upgraded water resistant version I'm not familiar with. I NEVER buy any MDF furniture even veneered and the ONLY thing Ive used it for primarily? is speaker boxes. But. I found a 4x6 version of the Centipede at an estate sale for $2 (!!!!!!) (the guy was just trying to get rid of stuff so he could move) so.. Im going to get the predrilled top and use it as a template to drill out a plywood copy. Perfect for using a track saw.
@@garyroxene Two dollars? That’s an absolute steal, my friend-what a great find! I’d love to hear how it works out for boring through the plywood. I was actually looking at one of those MDF tops earlier this week. Great review~! I bought my 4'x6' Centipede a little over a year ago and I LOVE IT~! My primary use for it is breaking down plywood, as it gets me off the floor. I have a larger shop like yours, so space is a luxury, but table top space is not. My outfeed table is constantly in use, so the Centipede has been a great shop add-on. I'm glad that you mentioned the TrackTubes because I was going to. I found Fred's website about a month ago and I'm going to use this solution to give me MFT functionality. It looks like a great product. I recommend the Centipede to anyone needing tabletop space for anything in or out of the shop and I suggest it to many friends & family. I'm also having fun finding things to further accessorize it in the 3D printing repositories. So much functionality~!
Yes, I couldn’t agree more. For me, I too utilized it as I was tired of working off of the floor in the beginning before I had all my whole build tables formulated. The star for me is the ability to make this portable and bring it out to the land and or out of the shop. Self adjusting features are just awesome. I’ve been thinking about getting one of the smaller ones myself. I have not gotten any of the dedicated table tops, have you? If so, what do you think of them? Which ones would you recommend?
@@generalsworkshop I've seen the ones that Bora offers, but after seeing the ones offered with TrackTubes, I'm leaning in that direction. I don't own an MFT, but like that theirs is an exact replacement. I'm still figuring out which track/plunge saw to get, but the 20mm dog hole system seems the way to go for max accessory compatibility (ie, TSO, etc...).
The risers look interesting. With them going up 6 inches, I wonder if they as stable when you’re putting a lateral force on your workpiece. Either way, thanks for sharing!
I’ll let you know, I’m definitely going to be getting the 6 inch risers specifically for the game that you see on the front cover/thumbnail. The table top is supposed to be a little bit higher to enable each team to react to the balance of the dice.
That’s a great idea, that way if you’re cutting through your material, you don’t ever go into the tabletop itself, but rather into the sacrificial two by fours. What size table did you end up with.
@@generalsworkshop I have two 2’x4’ tables. Use the bora work tops. I put a bench dog in each corner, then 2’x4’ styrofoam board on each table with corresponding holes, foam board stays in place. Or sometimes use a 4x8 plywood, then foam board, then the sheet I’m cutting on top...
@@tallpaull9367 I love that idea of having two of the 2 x 4 tables to make one larger or keep it smaller. That’s a genius idea, my friend. I’ve been wanting to buy a smaller one, but if someone is reading this, if I were to do it again. I would likely follow your suggestion and get two of the small ones which could always make a larger one, but also has the option ofkeeping small as well. Great idea.
@@generalsworkshop Ya, it's great, best of both worlds. Nice to just use 1 table sometimes to take up less space. or use the other one somewhere else in the shop, outfeed table... which I don't seem to need much since getting the Bow Products Xtender Fence and featherboards on my Sawstop Job SIte Pro
@@tallpaull9367 from my research, I believe the treated MDF is referred to as MR MDF, but it is my understanding that the Bora tops are not chemically treated to be moisture resistant. Either way, I know you could potentially treat it afterwards, but it’s always a bummer to have to buy something and then modify it. It would be nice if they had an option where that was in fact the case. Regarding the tops being chemically treated, if you find something different, let me know. I’m likely gonna be grabbing one of these tops in the near future. I’m doing a lot of work out at our Land for our Band Of Brothers community group and having this table available wherever I needed to be is absolutely brilliant.
I just bought them for the ease, already made… But doing it again, I sort of wish I just bought a 5’x5’ baltic birch to rip it in half and build 2 tops myself. glue and screw a 1.5” strip around the bottom edge so that the top fits around the top of the Centipede with an edge, can’t slip off, no clamps needed. check out TSO’s dogs, and chamfered bench dogs too.
Thanks for the feedback! I guess I got a little carried away adding the secret ingredient-personality. But hey, if fluff makes the world softer, maybe it’s not such a bad thing!
