  • Welcome to the video about The 20 Worst Muscle Cars Ever Made
    54. This video countdown reveals the 20 biggest fails and flops in American muscle car history. Get ready to see the worst performers, tackiest designs, and most regrettable muscle cars ever unleashed on the public. From failed experiments like the woefully underpowered AMC Marlin to design disasters like the awkward Plymouth Volare Road Runner, this video pulls no punches covering the most embarrassing muscle cars Detroit ever built. You’ll learn the troubled backstory behind each disappointing machine that gave muscle cars a bad name. These questionable cars totally lacked the qualities that define great classic muscle - big power, aggressive looks, and street swagger. Relive painful memories of muscle car failures like the misguided Pontiac GTO, the miserable Mustang II, and the dreadful Dodge Demon. So join us as we drag Detroit’s skeletons out of the closet and take a look at the dark side of American muscle car history through the 20 worst examples to ever wear a V8 badge.
    In the thumbnail image, I have created a more beautiful version of the 1978 FORD MUSTANG KING COBRA car. If it does not appear in the video, I hope you will sympathize and accept my video.

      The original twoseat AMX (1968 - 1970) was a superb car. The second gen was a lightly modded Javelin, still a good car. The later Hornet and Spirit AMX cars lost a lot, but were still decent cars. And the Gremlin was a good car, lasting on the streets far longer than the Vegas and Pintos.

    I'm not sure where they are getting this information from, but there are quite a few mistakes. The 1982 Trans AM was not available with a 2.5L L4. The standard engine for the Trans Am was a 305 CID V8. You had to drop down to the base Firebird for the 2.5L. The T/A was also available with a 4 speed manual in 1982 and the 1983 model offered a 5 speed with the 190hp rated 305.

Easily beaten by a v6 Mercury Capri). It handled well, but was let down by the weak 305 and you couldn't add a lot of torque to the T top models without risking torqueing the chassis.

      @@qmusclecarsno. Ford marketed it as an economy car because of the threat of more fuel efficient foreign cars gaining a larger market share. It is a stylish car, but still based on the. 1960 Falcon. Because of that it shares some characteristics with the 65-66 Mustang. mavericks in the US came with 200 cube six cylinders the first couple of years. They will take any V-8 that would fit in a 65-66 Mustang without cutting the fender wells or the firewall. They can be made to scoot, but they were never muscle cars.

      @@sombra6153 Just so you are aware, they were available from the factory with the 302 V8, with or without the Grabber appearance package. At the same time, the Chevy Nova could be ordered with a factory 4-cylinder. Novas were advertised as economy cars, but when you ordered a large V8 and the SS package, suddenly it's a muscle car. So I'd definitely say the lines are blurred quite a bit.

    I have to disagree about the '74 GTO. I know it's not fast. So now that I think about it, it does qualify as a bad muscle car. But I've always had a thing for Novas as well as Pontiacs so the '74 GTO looks like a Pontiac Nova which to me is weird and wonderful. A Nova with a shaker hood scoop and Trans Am exhaust tips as well as a Pontiac front end? From the factory? That's amazing.

    I had seen the phrase, “his men follow him out of curiosity” offered in Army evaluation reports. I watched this video for the same reason. I hope the AI used to generate this video is not the same that our current DoD would be using (although there seem to be indications …). How the 68-70 Tempest or the original AMXs got included among the 20 worst is amazing. Then there will be those new to cars that think the Aspen-Volaries based RoadRunner looks like a 67-68. A forgotten detail is that Mustangs, Camaros, Challengers (and Cudas), and AMXs were “pony cars,” not muscle cars. Traditional muscle cars are midsized with big motors. I can’t argue that most of the cars featured were not great performers in their day, but most of the cars featured were modified. Some kid’s going to see a 383 stroker in a Mid 80s Camaro and think it’s an Iron Duke. And FWD is not a performance badge, it simply stands for “front wheel drive.” Every Citation, even the base models were “FWD.”

    10.75:1 compression, a racing cam, and an ungodly number of upgrades, that included some undercarriage work, and it was an absolute beast. How much of a beast?

    The 74 GTO was a Ventura ( Nova) with a 350 and a shaker. Looking back compared with the competition , it wasn't that bad 74 sucked. The Trans AM and formula firebird was about the best you could do at the time. The Camaro only had a 350, Ford Mustang in 74 didn't have an 8. So a grabber Maverick or heavier Gran Torino was it. Chrysler motors had the last of the very weakened Challengers, Chargers and Cuda's. The Pontiacs were as good as you could get.

      One thing no one takes into consideration is that in the early 70s the advertised measurement of horsepower went from gross to net. There was suddenly as much of a 60-100 horse power reduction on paper. Net measurements were taken with all the smog and accessories hooked up plus exhaust and air cleaners. Consider how many manufacturers in the late. 60s through 71 under-reported the horse power to keep the insurance companies at bay. I had a stick 71 Cougar with the H-code. 351C. In. 71 it was rated for 250 horses. For 72-73, it dropped to 160 or so. Surprisingly torque figures didn’t change that much.

    What's funny is that even though these cars were strangled by emission controls and such, they were still a lot of fun. I once drove a Volare with a 318 back in 78-79, and my everyday driver was a '71 Dodge Polara custom. They were both stellar!!

    What the hell is this video? The first car is a 1973 Chevy Nova, not a 1964 Pontiac GTO.
    The 82 TA for Knight Rider is KITT, not KYTT. And who the HELL has a 165 horsepower lawnmower?
    All the rest of the cars in the list came from the fuel crisis years where car makers were just trying to keep their brand names alive during Jimmy Carter's garbage administration.
    The Citation and DeLorean were NEVER musclecars.

    First, lose the AI. It really can't interpret 1980 correctly, for instance. Nineteen hundred and 80? Really?
    It also mentioned KYTT as the name of the car, when it was KITT. There are other examples, but these really stuck out to me.
    Also, the Gremlin was mentioned twice. I did learn that the GTO was once a trim line for the Tempest, and that the GTO also came in a wagon, which surprised me.
    Other than these quibbles, I enjoyed the video, and I appreciate the time you took to put this together. Thanks!

    As a kid during the 70s I remember the Energy Crisis and Jimmy Carter. Between those two that was one of the worst period for the American economy and the U.S auto industry. Now in 2024 history is repeating itself with Bidens Green deal, and EV mandates.

    The 70's and 80's were a bad time for cars. My wife had a '76 mustang II with a 2.3-liter 4 cylinder with 88 horsepower, which was cute, but it couldn't get out of its own way. A while back I owned a 1984 Corvette with a 350 which was only rated at 205HP. I now have a 2023 Cadillac CT5 with a 2-liter engine which is rated at 237HP and gets 32 mpg on the highway. Times have changed for the better.

    You can improve your videos by getting facts straight. The 1962 Plymouth Super Stock 413 and the 1963 Plymouth Sport fury 426 Max Wedge, are considered production muscle cars. They came out before and produced way more HP than that GTO. Don't know why anyone would consider the 64 GTO the "first muscle car".

    • @qmusclecars
      @qmusclecars  5 месяцев назад

      I'm sorry for that, I will change it in the next videos.

    • @thebionicbassplayer
      @thebionicbassplayer 4 месяца назад +3

      @@qmusclecars The GTO was considered the first muscle car because DeLorean and Pontiac took an unassuming intermediate body and stuffed a big 389 V8 in it and added a 4 speed manual and dual exhausts, a formula that was done prior, but those are considered to be more factory race cars.

    • @marklamb912
      @marklamb912 4 месяца назад +2

      Because they loaded a 389 into a small car that weighed around 3500 lb instead of putting the 389 into a Bonneville that was a 5000lb car like the Fury. If you go by your logic, a Cadillac Deville with a 472 ci motor would be a muscle car.

    • @thebionicbassplayer
      @thebionicbassplayer 4 месяца назад +1

      @@marklamb912 Actually, if you go by my logic an intermediate body aka; Cutlass, Malibu, Fairlane, Torino, Satellite and Coronet would be considered muscle cars, not something as big as a Bonneville or Cadillac of that era.

    My very first car was a 1980 Mercury capri RS 5.0L. Yeah it anemic but for a 16 yr old, it was a rocket. I owned a 1982 Dodge Challenger as well. All black with gold pinstriping. Ugly as sin but was a tough car. Good memories
