- Actors Stephen Lang, Tom Berenger and Director Ron Maxwell reflect on 30 years since they created the movie Gettysburg.
This panel was part of the anniversary weekend celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Gettysburg Movie.
The American Battlefield Trust preserves America’s hallowed battlegrounds and educates the public about what happened there and why it matters. We permanently protect these battlefields for future generations as a lasting and tangible memorial to the brave soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.
Berenger and Lang gave incredible performances. So charismatic as Longstreet and Pickett.
Berenger's beard gave the best performance of all.
Wow. This is gold. I was SHOCKED when the camera zoomed out and saw that the auditorium was only half full or so. It should have been standing room only! I really respect Berenger as an actor but he’s very knowledgeable on his history as well having listened to him on some other podcasts.
This opening panel was just for the press with a couple VIPs. We have many more panels on the way with full auditoriums!
@@AmericanBattlefieldTrustI appreciate that, but a full room probably would have helped the optics some.
What an amazing interview!!! I would love to meet everyone on that panel and fellow actors in the audience.
The room was not full because we have little real "Press" left these days in the U.S. that would travel to an event like this.
I think it’s awesome that these guys are able to put water under the bridge and come together every year and get along.
_“Enemies in times of war, brothers in times of peace.”_
Can’t imagine the horrors these brave men witnessed.
God bless America. 🇺🇸
Stephen Lang is horribly underrated as an actor, he was not only great as Pickett in Gettysburg, but his role as Stonewall Jackson in Gods and Generals as well, and many other roles he's played over the years.
Its interesting that he is in the top two highest grossing films of all time and he is still relatively unknown
He was really good in Tombstone as well. He is criminally underrated
Him in Manhunter as a sleazy tabloid writer was fantastic.
Both of these men were brilliant in their roles and brought much to the film. God bless them and those that worked so hard to bring this to the screen!
I love Stephen Lang. So much passion and a great story teller
Excellent movie. So well done and a perfect cast.
Perfect?
I was involved in the the making of Gods and Generals. Ron talks about rain days, well we spent 3 days doing very few scenes. We were doing Fredricksburg / Marries Heights. It rained a lot and we lost a whole days shoot. Myself and a couple of my mates were waiting beside a road to get back to camp, in the pouring rain, a big van pulls up and gives us a ride up to the main area for coordination. Well it was Mr Maxwell and others in the van and when we told them we came down from Canada they thanked us very sincerely. We also got to meet many of the actors. Great memories.
My father dragged me to this when I didn't even know it was a movie. The audience was packed with reenactors who yelled every time they recognized themselves or friends onscreen. These actors changed my view on our history with their performances.
I wish there was a way we could see a film adaptation of The Last Full Measure.
One of the greatest movies I have watched and all the actors that brought history to life for all to see
Wonderful to see Tom Berringer back in Gettysburg, not to mention Lang, Maxwell, and the other boys of Gettysburg. Some blockbuster movies come out and we trick ourselves into thinking that they will stand the test of time. A movie like Gettysburg, however, will most assuredly be sought out and viewed fifty years from now, while the top movies of 2024 will most likely be relegated to obscurity.
Definitely watching, thank you!!
Great Video, With Some of the Great Cast! Thanks for Sharing !
Such a cool video. It was so great to relive this marvelous movie with the people who made it come to life.
Fascinating! We loved watching!
Tom Berenger is a phenomenal actor. Loved him in Platton as the Nemises to Sgt Barnes, Jack Staton in Shattered, but my favorite role for him was as Gen Longstreet is Gettysburg!!
Can’t believe that they never replay this movie. Or at least not advertised or noted on TV. I have never seen this Movie. Seen Gods and Generals. But Gettysburg not yet. Will be hoping. Thanks for sharing!
💯👍
Terry as one of our frequent and top commenters this is shocking to hear! You definitely need to get your hands on a copy.
4 bucks to rent on amazon.. it's worth it
Gods and generals is generally thought of as a terrible movie, Gettysburg is a classic!!!
It’s really not all that good. Fat, overaged re-enactors, sanitized battle scenes and a heavy nod to the Lost Cause ages this movie badly.
Jeff Daniels was solid, Langs flowing locks were wonderful and Berengers beard was comical.
With all due respect, people who get lost in this movie really miss so much of what the entirety of the battle of Gettysburg is all about.
A noble effort, though it may have been, it really doesn’t stand up to the test of time.
@@DouglasLyons-yg3lv respectfully disagree with pretty much your entire critique ;).
This is great! Thank you
This was awesome!!!!
Where’s the rest? The beginning? end? Love this!
Well Done.
Thanks for this!
Very enjoyable! Thanks
Totally amazed the knowledge of Tom Berenger on historical facts
This is a treat to watch
Much respect to these gentlemen for returning to Gettysburg numerous times to talk with fans of the movie. Gettysburg is my favorite movie of all time. Thank you for such excellent portrayals of Longstreet and Pickett. Lang wasn't bad as Stonewall Jackson in God's and Generals either. Great movie.
I’m a graphic artist, and my company I worked for, Imagic LA (we were bought by a larger company in 2015, Circle Graphics, and I’m going on 32 years with the company) did the movie poster, and the DVD cover and back pictures. I had read the Killer Angels, and when we started working on the project, I was giddy as a school kid.
That was fantastic!
(And love Trace A. for ABT)
My favorite war movie. I have it on every format and saw it in the theater when it came out. lol
I would have LOVED to have been there.
ANOTHER Home Run Adeleman and company... this was a perfect compliment to the three hours I spent at The Longstreet Society... Mr. Pritchard had many a great tale to tell about the movie and its effect on the historical memory of Longstreet... I left the best hand in "Brag" and a dram of whiskey on the Good Grneral's Grave.
Wow this is fantastic!
Can’t wait
Awesome
I wish you could finish the trilogy. The Last Full Measure needs to be made
I’d love to see it as well. Sadly, they say it won’t ever be made because God’s and Generals flopped. I personally love both Gettysburg and GG.
Gettysburg still engrosses me entirely when I watch it. It is where I went on my honeymoon in 1969. I took my children there several times to watch a re-enactment, etc. It needs to be seen again, for multiple reasons.
Thank you
I think that all you have to do is fast-forward to around the 46 minute mark to understand ANYTHING and EVERYTHING about this film, thanks to Ron Maxwell.
Nice video...Great film. Have read all 3 books from Michael & Jeff Shaara, excellent...
Would have loved to have been there!
A great movie.
My first casualty as a deck officer in York River VA one summer was heat prostration. 1978.
I just watched Berenger's Rough Riders the other day.
How was this room not packed with fans?
This was for the press and a couple VIPs. We have numerous panels on the way with packed audiences!
@@AmericanBattlefieldTrust Excellent!
Nobody's there. Strange. I would have been there in a second
As long as no one mentions Gods and Generals and just focuses on Gettysburg, this should go well
It was a fine, very readably novel. Sadly, even the massive help provided by Ted Turner and others could only cover parts of the third day battle. Most Americans alive today can't trace their families presence in this country back to 1863, and/or aren't that historically minded, concerned by those those events that took place so long ago. It's not relevant to them. All of those major CW battles really should have been turned into major motion pictures a long time ago with help from the government if necessary, just for general education of the American people if for nothing else. When I look at the $34 trillion debt that this "government" has run up and I see where so much of that money was just wasted or stolen, it seems without any question that it would have been a very wise investment for posterity if nothing else.
love the movie. have the dvd. my sister went to see it in the theater as as school field trip in 1994. as u watch the movie u see why the north won. General Lee sent his men into a battle they had no chance of winning.
Still waiting on The Last Full Measure to complete the trilogy.
Berenger is a MONUMENT
These two deserved a much better director
I did know Ted Turner got role this movie.Did know this fact.
👍🇺🇸
Tom's face has shrunk.
Gettysburg was a very good niche film and I've watched it many times. God's and Generals on the other hand was just plain awful and is unwatchable.
Disagree
G&G is horrible.
Gods n Generals Personally was n is the better of the 2.
N There both Good.
Love the film except for Martin Sheen as Lee. Great actor but horribly miscast. Jason Robards would have been great as Lee.
Ciao Tom...see you in Venice
Berenger understands how crappy Robert E. Lee was during the entire campaign. These Lee lovers are just huge marks.
