I can hear a lot of different sounds coming from this band. I hear a little Sound of Animals Fighting, a hint of the Mars Volta, some Anthony Green-esque vocals. It all sounds really good and I'd definitely check this band out live.
Logan Bowles It's mostly members of Stolas, but aside from that, that's basically exactly what I thought when I noticed the drummer and bassist were the guys from Stolas and not Joe and Mikey.
Donovan Melero - Vocals (Hail The Sun) Will Swan - Guitar (Dance Gavin Dance, Secret Band) Sergio Medina - Guitar (Stolas) Michael Franzino - Bass (A Lot Like Birds, alone.) Joseph Arrington - Drums (A Lot Like Birds)
Sianver is (IMO) better then each members respecting band (not including ALLB). Im a real fan of DGD too, but this current line-up becoming full time would bare some good fruits is all.
Donovan isn't a very strong vocalist, the stolas drummer who's filling in won't be as great as Matt Mingus is will swan is will swan. Dance Gavin Dance will be forever the best in this genre and out of all the groups they are in side projects with or that are under wills record label.
Elm-Wood i just feel that sianvar used to much effects for him to sound great with them maybe if they had a backup singer to help doing the extra parts he sounds tired a bit and rushed to fit in every lyric
I can agree that Donovan isnt a very strong singer, he is likeable enough though to get by on the ep. I just havent been impressed with Stolas at all, Hail The Sun is pretty good, but seem to have some problems gaining speed, and I love DGD, but am not sure how much longer they will all want to keep the band going.
Jamie Hilton stolas isnt for everyone honestly i personally love them but i can respect that you dont like them. hail the sun is releasing a new album in september and have already released a new song called hanging revelation which showcases their talent. hopefully you can get into all the sactown bands such as speed of sound in seawater, paper pistols,so much light and all them because they are full of talent
You can tell Donovan get really tired by Substance Sequance. Makes me wonder how he will do with Drumming and singing in HTS with all their new songs. Hopefully he has the stamina to pull it off
Saw him live back in late September and he was solid the whole way through. He did slow down for Relax/Divide and Dead Messages, but he didn't fuck anything up as far as I could tell and he went all out otherwise
They both are..Haha I only listen because they give me TMV sound. But Ive falling in love with them. Haven't heard much live his voice sounds like trash in this one..maybe he was losing it.
Donnie is straining himself hardcore. He's dead by the end of the set. At 22:30 Carlo's face is like yo, I could definitely do better right now. Great set though especially for a band that probably doesn't get much time to play together and with the guys from stolas filling in
so many people comparing the stage presencehere to tmv, yet i didnt see a mic stand get thrown, handstand or him throw the mic around or a jump off the bass drumkit. he has a while to go
SET LIST
@0:17 Chest Pressure
@4:42 Sick Machine

Nah you just hear this band. Comparison is the death of fun lol. Especially if you hear multiple

I WILL NEVER FORGIVE MYSELF FOR MISSING THIS.
Damn he killlled it on the vocals for Chest Pressure!
Hello we are hail the su- I MEAN sianvar.... Singing while standing up is weird....

Thank you for this.
Just noticed this is a Stolas backed lineup, super cool to see. RJ would kill as a replacement bassist for Sianvar. Make it happen.
Sianver is (IMO) better then each members respecting band (not including ALLB). Im a real fan of DGD too, but this current line-up becoming full time would bare some good fruits is all.

Elm-Wood donny has gotten way better live honestly ive seen hail the sun 3 times and each time he sounds way better
Elm-Wood i just feel that sianvar used to much effects for him to sound great with them maybe if they had a backup singer to help doing the extra parts he sounds tired a bit and rushed to fit in every lyric

wish they played circut theory
We need a camera just on Will playing that V man
oh hey gibby sup i know you
oh hey Jon and Gibby sup I know you two
Set list, anyone?
The recordings are so much better!
Without Joe it feels so wrong
yeah, joe literally crushes this dude on drums. not hating on the fill-in, but joe's drumming is what makes that sianvar EP so epic!
yep
COME TO PITTSBURGH
I agree, get the fuck down here!
I love how sianvar is mostly stolas in this video
Hahaha yeah, totally xD

6 years later, someone does hail drumming for the most part
Does anyone have the setlist?
do you have any footage of Tilian's set?
I love this, but the tasty, mad-scientist bass was lost in the mix for the video...
Dat The Mars Volta scenic presence
yep, but more like ATDI
Hey, @StolasOfficial remember this?
Awww poor Carlo got lost in Sick Machine xDDD Joe is just too damn good :3 his beats are ridiculously sporadic :3
At the beginning of Sick Machine they were a bit off, Either Donovan was dragging, or it sounded like the drums were rushing
Haha, are you gonna be Joe Arrington's next fill-in? ;) It is rough though I agree.
Donovan is totally channeling Cedric from TMV in his stage presence. lol.
lol i think you mean sergio is channeling omar
They both are..Haha I only listen because they give me TMV sound. But Ive falling in love with them. Haven't heard much live his voice sounds like trash in this one..maybe he was losing it.
"this songs called your ta-tas"
16:42
Where is joe?
I love it. Don't much give a f#*3 what n e 1 else thinks. Great nusic.
i think the drums rushed quite a bit in sick machine i can't really tell too much, but that part after the first chorus definitely felt off.
Donnie is straining himself hardcore. He's dead by the end of the set. At 22:30 Carlo's face is like yo, I could definitely do better right now. Great set though especially for a band that probably doesn't get much time to play together and with the guys from stolas filling in
For real tho, there were so many notes that Donnie couldn't reach
Where the hell was this energy when I saw them lmao
so many people comparing the stage presencehere to tmv, yet i didnt see a mic stand get thrown, handstand or him throw the mic around or a jump off the bass drumkit. he has a while to go
Shred
Damn the energy died around Substance Sequence. Sad because that's one of my favourites from the album.
Seems like this dude's having trouble managing his air to hit dem notes live. Happens though, sick fucking EP regardless.
Ryan Utterback to be fair he'd already done a set drumming and singing for hail the sun that night
Donovan looks like a chubby mclovin
donny is high haha
He's been sober for 10 years bro . Last he used was 2010 and then he went to a life of sobriety if your gunna comment get your facts straight
All the bands in this scene never sound tight! even the groups that have been together for aggggeeeessss!
i agree. the music is amazing but very difficult to mimick live. most do a pretty good job though. i saw dgd in november and they sounded amazing
usually just the vocalists
marks volta rip off?
Nope. Sianvar :)
max weberzein mars volta sucks
Damon Baird You shut your dirty mouth
