I love the character of Jack. He is mysterious, solemn, backward, and shy, yet when he loves, is angry and happy he is intense and honest. The flashback memories he has of the two of them im the park, and on their honeymoon in Ireland are perfect examples of how magnificent and perfectly the writers, directors and set artist worked to produce and develop the iconic Soap Opera Genre Claire Labine and Horowitz just iconic pioneers in this genre. This viewing is the 11th complete viewing of each episode available on the RUclips collection of RH. Some of the early years I’ve watched 15 or 16 times there’s always a lesson from a wholesome story, something rich about the virtues of ones character. I remember the affairs and the lingering kisses in the bedroom scenes were frowned upon in the late 70s. It was still taboo . Yet these early “operas” , later tagged with the adjective “soap” were sponsored by Palmolive Dish Liquid, you see it there in Maeve Ryan’s kitchen, we grew up seeing it in the kitchen where Alice Horton made those fabulous donuts where she once hide a key so Bo could free himself and Wally from being wrongly jailed. That was another piece of brilliant writing, taking the modest grandmother to all of Salem, who had already managed to illustrate for viewers what God intended when he said love one another as you love thyself, when her granddaughter, Julie had an affair with a man of color and produced a child. That was a very taboo subject and many housewives were forbade watching such filth, and vile subject matter by their Bible thumping spouses, most especially in the south. and the still running iconic days of our lives and the still running iconic days of our lives, wife of Dr. Horton played by iconic McDonald Carey, Mrs. Alice Horton. Writing her in as an accessory to a jailbreak … pure brilliance. Then Ryan’s Hope, and Another World’s Rachel and Mitch becoming engaged in an affair that sent ripples of every consequence imaginable along the afternoon airwaves across America each weekday. I remember watching with my grandmother in summer and on school breaks and one afternoon, before I knew the meaning of irony, I asked her if she thought it was funny that soap operas were thought of as dirty, yet the commercials were all for soap products. 😂. Ashe explained that it may be why the soap products sold so well. She worked for a small grocery store, more like a community bodega , and they sold volumes of Palmolive Liquid dish soap, and dishwasher granules. They often sold out of Ivory Bar Soap when it was on sale, as they had a small amount of shelving. It was Ivory Bar soap, and laundry powdered soap in a box for the new washing machines each household was installing in the 50’s and 60’s, the colorful, tall, green bottles of Palmolive Dish soap and Cheer laundry soap marketing teams who made those round tower display set up that brought the product from shelf to you buggy’s side. In the isle way of grocery markets across the. USA. This was likely one of the most brilliant ideas of that era and is still commonly practiced in all market places. The soap industry made a fortune advertising, directly to the person in each household that was responsible for making purchases. This strategy made lots of money for the industry. As cable television services became more available in the rural south and shouts established, during late 70’s and mid 1980’s the public was offered alternative afternoon programming, many women also went to wrk outside of the home and Soap Operas lost viewership. we know what happened from there. Today, Dawn has taken Palmolive’s place on screen, and body wash has replaced the Irish Spring bar soap commercials. Rewatching these episodes stirs my soul, and brings back to my memory that warm feeling of family and togetherness I felt as a teen; then, added comfort of my grandparents living next door and having that time each day to spend with my grandmother watching and talking about story plots, her having me cover my eyes when they kissed or had bedroom scenes. Talking about recipes, planning holiday meals and summer cookouts for family reunion, celebrations the first weekend in June. Precious Memories. I hope some of you viewing these episodes have similar memories of watching soaps in the afternoon, during their prime viewing days.
It doesn't matter how many women Jack may meet and get involved with, even if he gets married again, (even if it were Siobhan), it'll never come close to what he had with Mary. For some people, there's only one true love.
Faith shows up to Frank's office too much - she's after him for sure!!!!! Her sisters man- any excuse to be around Frank - she is whinny weak insecure and needs the validation of a man !!!! Smh!!!
Even if the Ryans knew about Jillian cheating AGAIN, they would still say she's the best human being in the world and that she does no wrong.
