I work retail and it is hard for customers to understand that some items are discontinued by Dealer and some discontinued by the parent company. We have no control over the latter. It's frustrating for them and I appreciate your kind, measured response. Please don't take it out on the staff when we have nothing to do with those decisions. I like to buy yarn in a store so I can squish the balls....lol
I work in retail and sometimes when things get discontinued there will always be that one customer that takes their frustrations out on the employees and refuses to understand that employees don't have any control over what corporate does. I prefer to shop in store too, but I do love the convenience and option of shopping online.
Never verbally beat up a retail worker for things like that. Theyy have absolutely no control over it. BUT... in addition to emailing or writing corporate, I always nicely ask the store manager to please personally convey to their upper management the fact that they ARE getting customer complaints in store too about whatever issue it is. I think that two pronged 'attack' on the issue could help and shouldn't hurt. 😉
Thank you for explaining this to everyone, it is frustrating to have your yarns and accessories discontinued by a store, but it is not the store employees that do it unless it is a privately owned store. Always go to the corporate website to make your statement of unhappiness of this occurring. Not the store employees.
One of the issues that have found ordering yarn and fabrics is colors are not often the actual color. With yarn, I really enjoy being able to feel the yarn and see the colors to coordinate the colors.
My craft stores have already downsized their stock of yarn even though lots of people still buy it when it goes on sale. The problem is we can't feel the yarn, but still buying online is an option.
Accurate this is absolutely in point, hardest part about online shopping for me is I can’t touch the yarn, it’s super important to me so this avenue would be my route for certain. Might just use this for other things as well, buying shoes especially have to try them on, I don’t get online shopping for clothes and shoe either…. 🤷🏻♀️
I was today at my lys searching for a specific colourway of a sock yarn and was told that they didn’t get it because it looked similar to another they had. I wanted blues and the ones they had was with blue and green. So I shopped online and found it, I will get it tomorrow. What i did to avoid to pay for shipping: buy a lot other skeins.
I work in the transit system. Some customers swear at us, as customer service, that certain bus route # is no longer available. We have no control of the decision of the transit company. I wish I was the CEO of the transit company in next life. Hahaha
Kindness is always in style. Mikey what is dangling from the light fixture? Do unto others , as you would have them do to you, still applies in civilized people.
Far too many entitled Karens out there who take their frustrations out on the local store worker when like you said, it's CORPORATE making the decisions. DON'T shoot the messenger.
Magnífica recomendación mi niño Maiky... 👏👏👏 Es como ir al super de tu barrio, buscando pan o tomates y que te digan... Eso ya no lo traemos, por lo que sea... Pero busque en Amazon y lo encontrará... Y no...
I don’t even email anymore. I hand write a letter, snail mail. Believe it or not they actually have to deal with a piece of paper. Emails aren’t always saved.
Another thing I found out is that I bought a yarn for my project and I ran out of yarn and I bought the same one but when I got home is slightly different and I read all the label and I found out that is different dye lot I wrote an email to the provider and they said sorry but is discontinued that dye lot. I stayed with an unfinished project. Is not fair. It's very frustrating.
It's not unfair. Yarn is dyed in batches according to the equipment limitations of the manufacturer. Buy all the yarn for your project at once. Just something you learn after a while.
@@amberclear7016 What I hate is a brand that proudly trumpets no dye lots so no matching problems yet when I buy skeins at different times there is a clear and visible change in color between them. Sigh. First world problems.
I feel sad that the red heart yarn is hard to find in the uk. It's really expensive on ebay because of import/ export charges. BUT, I've found the wool warehouse in the UK does stock some of the redheart yarns 🥰👍
It is so risky buying yarn on line! First, the colour shown on screen is never the actual colour . Second, crocheter and knitters really need to feel the texture of the yarn to make a choice. My local Ontario Walmart has renovated the store and halved the yarn section - so disappointing.
It's just when items are taken off the shelf doesn't mean the item is discontinuing. It's the retailer making a different choice for the alloted space.
There is no LYS in the city I live in. They all closed over the years. I am stuck with Joann's fabric store and Michael's craft store when buying yarn in person. Otherwise, I have to buy online. Sad, but it is what it is.
You say you are “stuck” with Michaels AND Joanns meanwhile there are many who don’t even have access to either of those or a WM. So sorry you feel so “stuck”. @@rollothecat2010

Same! And check the colors too! It's just better to buy yarn in the store (for me and you anyway😅)
What a reasonable response. Breath of fresh air, nice logical answer. Thank you
As an aside,
Your backyard looks like a portrait of fall!
I appreciate your gentle reminder to all that the employees have no control over stock. Some people just need this now and again.🤗
Completely agree with you and going online ranting instead of communicating just gets the wrong attention.
Ranting on social media is generally a waste of time. It sometimes works but for small niches like ours, it really doesn't work.

The view behind you is so beautiful!
Thank you for reminding people that it's not the retail workers who have the power to control the inventory purchasing.

Yes! I will try emailing corporate because my craft shops near me carry almost no yarn. I don’t want to pay shipping for 1-2 skeins

It's just a fair trade felted llama mobile. I got it locally here.
Thank you Mikey ❤
Thank you… very informative and insightful.
You are right on the mark. Sometimes communicating with corporate works wonders.
Thank you for explaining this Mikey!! Great information 👍
Thank you for reminding me to contact yarnspirations about bringing back Bernat baby coordinates.

Nearest lys is a 4hr ride... so I always buy online, no other choice.
That's right ❤😊

Or when the color is completely changed, and you see that there is no dye lot on either label

Well explain, thank you .❤

Yarn like other crafts go in cycles. It is very sad that it happens. Not liking the store brand overload
Mikey did you ever do the tunisian afgan stitch along? I cant find it. Michele❤❤❤
You should be able to find the videos by searching "Timeless Tunisian Stitch Along" Happy Stitching

Exactly why you need to reach out to corporate. Your reasons are sound.
People don't know how to be reasonable any more.
Well said. :)
Is that a Melvin McFee painting in your wall?
No it's not. I'm unsure who that is. It's not that person though.
I have a hat pattern that is SC. Can I use 1/2 DC instead.
It will change the sizing in length and diameter. Try it though.
What’s being discontinued?
I think it's just yarn being discontinued in general
oh OK thank you he made it sound like something was going on or something I was not sure.@@HeyYouShouldSmile
