The reason Ash is there because Mega Houndooms pokedex states that “It turns everything to ash.”
Rayquaza was deliberately kept out of the fight until the end because they wanted the video to be more than a minute long.

You missed the stinger which previews the Gigantimax Battle Royale.
In fact, all the videos have stingers that are previews/hints to other episodes
Some people said that holding to much the mega evolution can cause that melting effect on the pokemon (idk)
