When the 2020 Coronavirus Pandemic shut down all in-person rehearsals and concerts, the Columbia Big Band came together virtually to work on and record our individual parts to keep our skills sharp and stay connected with each other. While we work towards recommencing rehearsals and rescheduling concerts, this project was a worthwhile diversion to work on individual skills and deep-dive into improvised recording technology.
"Candy" was chosen as the third track developed for this project to be an upbeat vocal feature of the old Jazz Standards; by this track it's clear that everyone's recording abilities were improving, as were those of our in-house amateur audio engineer!
The Columbia Big Band (CBB) is an ensemble formed in October 2015. Our repertoire covers genres such as traditional Big Band, Bebop, Fusion, Swing and Latin, among others. We are members of the community who enjoy performing for all audiences. Though some members play and teach music professionally, the members are volunteers employed in a wide variety of professions who share a love of music. CBB is one of several bands within the Columbia Bands non-profit organization. The Columbia Big Band hopes to bring the enjoyment of big band music to a wide audience.
