    Hey brother...watched both of your through hike videos and wow are they helpful. Amazing scenery! Loved the honesty. Thanks for taking the time to put this together. I'm also a teacher with summers off. I feel like I'm following in your footsteps. I did the JMT last summer with my daughter. This summer I'm thinking CT solo. Wondering if you might help me dial in a bit. Here are a few questions.
    1. rain pants?
    2. Umbrella?
    3. How many liters was your pack?
    4. How did it stack up to the JMT? I know its like double the length but steeper climbs? Less air? Seems like it was way wetter and exposed.
    5. 30 days seemed pretty tough, how would you recommend approaching it? I did a few 20's on the JMT and they took me to the brink.
    6. Seems like you started around July 1st and found lots of people to connect with. If I left around July 15 would there still be a descent bubble of people? Is the weather worse in August?
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    That was epic! Thanks for sharing your adventure. I did JMT 2020 NOBO Solo, my first solo hike, I'm intending for CT 2022. I hope you don't mind questions............Is your umbrella backpacker specific, or just an inexpensive purchase? Glad to see you did some 14ers..........looks like you went up and back on the south trail to Elbert, but can you offer any intel on going up the north trail and descending the south? I figure my pack won't be too heavy at that point, since planning to load up at Twin Lakes, just after Elbert. BTW: glad to see you used a bear canister, it has its weight, but also, peace of mind.

    • @trumpettran
      @trumpettran  2 года назад +1

      Hey Rose! The umbrella is specific. Intended to shield from sun but also came handy in the rain, and lightweight. Six Moons Umbrella, one of my favorite luxury items!
      From what I heard and studied, it seemed like the north route was shorter but steeper compared to the south. I was intending on going up north and down south, but I was ahead of schedule so I camped at the bottom of the South end.

    • @trumpettran

      Reports said there were a high number of people on the trail and definitely a record. I would say I saw anywhere from 20-30 people in a day (excluding bikers and day hikers)? My perception may be off. You normally "leap frog" around the same people throughout the hike. The quietest was probably Segments CW2-CW4 where I saw 5-10 a day. No lonely days on trail!

      Segments 5-8, the Collegiate West, and 20-24 were my favorite. No matter what, elevation will be a factor in those three choices. One thing you could do is start together and do segments 1-6 from Denver/Littleton to Brekenridge/Frisco.
