- Jury selection is underway for the trial of Karen Read, the Massachusetts woman accused of driving drunk and hitting and killing her boyfriend, John O'Keefe, in January 2022. O'Keefe was a Boston Police officer and Read claims his fellow officers beat him to death and framed her. The case has caused deep divisions on social media with the "Free Karen Read" group warring with those who think Read is guilty. Law&Crime's Angenette Levy outlines the case and moderates a debate between Read supporter Aidan "Turtleboy" Kearney and law student Grant Ellis Smith in this episode of Crime Fix - a daily show covering the biggest stories in crime.

I can’t believe these even made it to trial either.
Because the people who most likely did kill John O’Keefe - the ones in the house holding the afterparty - are a very well-connected law enforcement family. That includes the DA who brought the case.
The Commonwealth assumed they could bully Karen into taking a plea.
Angenette omitted that the US Attorney is conducting its own investigation into the whole mess of this case for corruption. Also that the lead investigator is under IA investigation.
When I first took an interest in this case I was as skeptical as anyone of the claims of a police coverup. Once I started digging though, it was question after question after question. I doubt there’s ever been a case with so much evidence gone mysteriously missing, withheld from the defense, misrepresented by the prosecution or manipulated by the police.
Having committed themselves to blaming Read, the DA et al put themselves in a place where they couldn’t back out without bringing suspicion on themselves but couldn’t go forward without looking ridiculous.
They chose ridiculous.

Autopsy Evidence not consistent with Injuries caused by an MVA. Those are not Abrasions on the Arm rather lacerations consistent with K9 Expert opinion.
I thought he said the autopsy photos were inconsistent with someone run over. Don’t think Aiden mentioned backed into.

I don't know if that happened or not but it really has nothing to do with Karen hitting John with her SUV. Perhaps if he did destroy his phone it's because he feels awful for allowing that hag to kiss him in the home of the man she was dating. Perhaps it's because he didn't want all of his personal business out there for everyone to judge him on. Who knows?

I’m sorry - you’re right I went back and found the info I was looking for - at one of the pre-trial hearings, the defense requested the commonwealth provide them with the tissue taken from John’s arm during his autopsy so they could send it out for testing. The commonwealth stated, in court, on the record, “no tissue was taken from any of the wounds on John’s arm”.

In the world of technology today, why no ring door footage from neighbours. I am seriously looking forward to this 24:00 tish show of a trial. You will hear Jen say she searched that after 6am, when Karen was asked her to. Then you’ll hear the lead forensic digital analyst at Cellebrite testify to the same thing AND then you’ll hear one of the best digital forensic analyst testify to the same thing AGAIN. 2:27 is dead. Anyone who tells you otherwise is misleading you. If you don’t believe two of the best, then you are not hear to learn the truth.

Yet if they were actually going to cover up a murder, would they put the body directly outside their house to be found by anyone walking by or would they have put it in a vehicle and driven it away from the scene to a remote area to be found significantly later. One thing that no one seems to be able to answer is why season detectives put a body outside their house to be found.
It also does not help that the phone GPS data does not actually put him in the house so there's no way that he could have been assaulted in the house

Sending vitriolic emails and having an affair with someone else does not PROVE she murdered him. I think the physical evidence and witness statements make it clear she did not. Anytime a murder victim is a police officer, the venue should be changed and the investigation should be done by others who do not personally know the victim.

It was a nor'easter. A blizzard. Snow was falling heavy and within centimeters of video cameras which obliterated the long range focus. When John's body was found he was covered in inches of snow.
Because it was made up, there is no damage to the car. That car didn't hit any person. His apple watch even tracked his movements when he should've been laying dead on the side of the street. Those cops didn't want this to go to trial, they will be exposed if the judge is at all on the side of justice.

Nobody talks about this but when we see it on video it will look completely insane. She was moving his vehicle around. If your a juror or in court it will look bizarre during a blizzard.

The guy with the curly hair is way too emotional to be here. He can't have a calm discussion or debate, he's screaming into the microphone, he can't sit still.
