INFO: This is a video for everyone who wants to know the ins and outs of Qotsa's 2002 album Songs For The Deaf. It's a super interesting album to dig into because it's so various and complex. It features an array of artists and contains some unknown secrets too! Hope you enjoy the video folks.
Apparently the reversed lyrics in God is in the Radio are "I'm right behind you watching you/look over your left shoulder/I'm right behind you watching you/you're inside my hands"
Don't know if anyone else posted that yet but can't be bothered to scan through the comments to find out XD
coolest hidden message ever
I remember reversing in audacity and hearing it with headphones in the middle of the night back when it first came out. I nearly shat my shorts.
You really like queens of the Stone Age and that’s why I like you
Hahah xD Thanks my friend. Yes they're my number 1 band.
They are my favourite band too
@@sudiptoaichbhowmik Mine too!
same haha!
Same here
Dave Grohl actually liked Josh's work way before, when he was in KYUSS, not when QOTSA opened for Foos on tour.
Yes i know by now. They met quite early in the nineties! Thanks for adding this to the video
btw.
I wish youd make a one like this for every album
randomguy 12974 Sounds like an idea. Could you help me share this video though? And i might make one about the self-titled album or Rated R :)
Héctor Bonifacio Echeverría Cervantes De La Cruz Arroyo Rojas
Funfact: The guitar sound was not recorded with traditional guitar amps and speakers. They went down to an old local music shop and bought all the cheapest bass solidstate amps and cabs they could find. The trick was to push mutiple layers of midrange, making it recordable.
JonathanSundtRosland Lol i didn't know that. But then they did use amps. Just the crappy ones.
Homme used bass amps while in Kyuss so it wasn't a new thing. The lead guitar tracks are recorded through regular electric guitar amps while the rhythm and main riffs are recorded through the bass amps. I model my sound on Josh Homme's tone as well as Billy Corgan's Siamese Dream sound.
They used Peavy solid state amps or similar, but were finding it too thin, so Josh went and got his Tube Works amp head from the Kyuss days
@@tamadrummer1nz its a mix of amps. the ampeg the tube works a bunch of stuff. the peavey seems to have actually been used on bass and on guitar only for certain parts.
Queens of the Stone Age is something I’m always in the mood for, it’s just that good.
Awesome! Didn’t know almost any of these facts! The zero track, the Black Flag drum.
SFTD is an absolute amazing album. No One Knows was the first Queens’ song I heard. God’s On the Radio, The Sky Is Fallin’, Do It Again, Gonna Leave You... this album is a crazy listening journey.
Nice vid! Do more.
W. Tamberg Hey i'm glad you liked it that much :) Yes it's absolutely one of my favorite albums too. There's not a single bad song on there. I might do a top 10 fact video about another one of their albums. But which one?

Lie Likes Music Era Vulgaris would be cool!
W. Tamberg Alright, i'll see what i can do :)
Hell yeah, I absolutely love qotsa and this album, been obsessed since I was 11 years old. Love the videos on them!
Thanks for saying that! And same here. First discovered them when i was 13 i think. And from that
moment onwards i absolutely loved all their music.
Song For The Dead drum intro being the same as that song is coincidental. There is a video of them rehearsing the song and writing the drum intro. It is quite funny. Josh tells him to play really stiff.
The Pisslord They borrowed that part with style nonetheless. It definately set the tone for the rest of the song! Thanks for discussing this guys.
I don't think Dave would copy someone's drum intro. I mean, come on. It may sound similar but it's not exactly the same. I'm sure Dave may have been listening to a lot of punk rock while he did this record, because he usually does that with different generes to get ideas for songs, and it subconsciously sounded similar. Either way, Dave kills it on that song. I remember hearing that song on a playlist and I had to pull over during the drum solo because I was floored.
No, He did. There's proof that he knew of the similarity and laughed at it between recordings.
I know which video you are talking about, with them rehearsing this song. The part where Josh tells Dave to play kind of stiff, almost caveman-like, was during one of the verses when Dave does a little Tom drum fill. The intro snare drum part and the riff part that followed before the verse was definitely lifted from Black Flag. Theres no question about that. And why not? That fit perfectly and he was basically just paying homage to a great song from a band he loved
In like clockwork there are some interesting participations and some facts interesting as well. Like 5 tracks played by Dave grohl. A song featuring the vocals of Alex turner and nick olivieri and the piano from elthon John in other track. Such a great album that you should make a video like this one
Yeah i know! That's an amazing album. I've gotten requests for almost all of their albums though. So i'll
have to see which one to do first. Thank you for commenting and giving me feedback though! There's a new
Qotsa video coming soon :)
Love your channel nice videos, learnint a lot! Even about my favorite band of all time.. qotsa. Thanks!!
Thanks for the support man. And Qotsa is my all time favorite too! So stay tuned if you occationally want Qotsa
related videos.
Oh and I found someone who had broke down the backwards vocals on God is in the radio before. It's something along the lines of, "it's Eric, I'm in your room, I'm in your hand (you're in my hands?) I'm right behind you."
And then a bunch of cussing
Yes there was some kind that sent me a link to that a month ago i think.
Finally! Hahah
I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!!!! THANKS LIE!!!
Thanks! The fact that you watch this means a lot. Much appreciation from Norway.
Great job, Lie! More Queens videos!!!
There's one on the horizon ;)
Dave Grohl was also a huge fan of Kyuss. He gave their album Blues For The Red Sun high praise in a Nirvana interview back in the day.
Track 0 works best if you have a cassette copy. Since on your first full playthrough you'll rewind it all the way back, and boom suddenly Track 0 will start. Giving first time listeners a new surprise
That's about 10 facts I never knew of this album!!
Really? But you're a fan of them right?
lol xD
Yes, better is a word.
Yay
I understand why you got confused cause it's a shit word.
So good to see another fan of queens of the stone age just like me
YES - to more QOTSA. Tell me about Sarah Silverman
The best QOTSA album and one of the best rocknroll records ever. I never knew that was DC on the actual disc. I assumed that was Homme. Every day is a school day.
Nice video. I think Josh is the one who whispers the backmasked message on "God is in the radio." When the message is reversed, I think he says the following: 'I've been dying to watch you. Look over your left shoulder in the apartment. I'm in Eric's room. You're inside of my hands...this is your God."
YES!!!
another cool note: Hanging Tree was also from The Desert Sessions, specifically DS 7
My Songs for the Deaf album (I own it on iTunes) it lists The Real Song For the Deaf as Track 1 and the rest of the songs as 2-15
Yeah i know. The tracklisting seems to be a bit different there.
Actually revealing what used to be the hidden track. How cool.
This is one of my top 50 albums
Same here. But probably among my top 10.
@@LieLikesMusic you should make more more modest mouse videos
Great video! Love all of your QOTSA content I'm a huge fan. Would love to recommend some bands to listen to if you're interested?
Jack Parsons Thank you 😊 Yes go ahead and recommend me some.
Lie Likes Music Indigo Lo (A World That Turns), Dolomite Minor (Girl of Gold, Talk Like an Aztec), PUP (Guilt Trip, Reservoir) The Wytches (Digsaw, Gravedweller, Crying Clown), Darlia (Napalm, Candyman, Queen of Hearts), Black Moth (Blackbirds Fall), Red Fang (Prehistoric Dog), Big Ups (Goes Black). Gold mine right here, hope you like them I have loads more for you if you ever wanna chat. Keep up the good work man!
Red Fang is amazing! But i haven't heard of any of the rest. I'll try to check out at least a few.
There's so much other music on my list these days haha. But i really appreciate that you share man. And yes
maybe we can chat sometime in the future. Feel free to add me on facebook. There's a link on my info page.
Lie Likes Music No problem man I'll add you. And if you listen to Darlia - Queen of Hearts make sure its the original version, not the album version theyre so different, have an awesome day, maybe speak soon!
Ky-YES!
YES
Yes!! 😬
The reverse vocals on god is in the radio is actually josh I think, and he says something along the lines of: “I’m right behind you. I’m watching you. Look over your left shoulder. I’m behind you.” I can’t remember what it was but I heard it in reverse and it’s pretty eerie
Yes
Alright another video is coming up. What other album would you like me to make
top 10s about?
Lie Likes Music Rated R would be cool.. what about that Spotify thing man? I can't find your playlist, did you delete it?
Edu Rated R it is my friend. Coming up very soon! The playlist? It should be there. Just search for Lie Likes Music Nov 2017. Still can't find it?
Lie Likes Music Great!
No man.. I've tried many times in many different devices :(
About Dave Grohl:
He was actually a fan of the band Kyuss, Josh Homme's previous band, since the Nirvana days... he openly tried to get Kurt interested in them, but Kurt was not impressed...
alain johannes and natasha shneider!?!?!?
This album is fucking sick.
I'm sad, the copy I have dosen't have track 0. :(
Ahh too bad...
yes please
The opening track for the album is The Real Song For The Deaf
I've been dying to watch you
Everybody's gonna be happy is a cover of a Kinks tune by the sane name
This is by far and away the number one album for my desert island top five. Still trying to track it down on vinyl because I'm a fucking nerd.
Fun fact: the flute part is still present on the Rock Band 3 mix of No One Knows.
Well, I agree with part of that- it is a fact
This guy loves SFTD more than me
Is it God is IN the Radio or God is ON the Radio? I’ve seen it a lot as “in” but it’s “on” on iTunes.
ipod044 I've always seen it as IN. So that's a weird alternative there 😮
it is god is in the radio on spotify
UK version is god is ON the radio, I guess if you don’t have UK version it’s IN
That's some damn calming music, feels like I'm playing minecraft. :D
no mention of dean ween playing on a few of the tracks?
Can you do a top 10 facts on era vulgaris please?
Sorry i don't do those top 20 videos anymore. But i might do one on QOTSA as a band sometime.
I found a vid of the reverse lyrics which say something
The devil is behind you
Look out” or something
*Y E S*
Kinda late but, yes lol
Nod to slip it in
dude i think im first dude dude
Dinkles Brah, i think so to brah
dude yeah dude
Everybodys guna be happy is a Kinks cover innit...
Marry me! I love your videos!
*pauses my kyuss to watch this*
Kudos to you man. Kudos!
Ha, Gonna Leave You
Great song!
I for one think that joke went underappreciated.
Taylor Hawkins went into rehab for heroin
wait it's pronounced lee not lye?
Elder_Gambino Yes sir
You gave some false information about "Song for the dead" and I think you should address it. "Song for the dead" was at most inspired by "Slip it in" by Black Flag but the drum track was no taken from it and put into "Song for the dead". I don't know where you got that information but it's bogus. If you listen to the two song back to back, you can tell they are similar but not the same. Otherwise I think you should get your ears checked.
What? They're super similar. And Grohl is a fan of Black Flag so it makes a lot of sense
if he wanted to do a little praise and nod towards that band. I never said there was anything
wrong about that. Whatever words i used "inspired" or "taken from" it doesn't really matter.
Where does the line go?
You said "Dave Grohl didn't play the drums on Song for the dead", then you said "It was TAKEN directly from "Slip it in"". That implies that Queens of the stone age actually SAMPLED "slip it in" on Song for the dead. You basically said they ripped a drum sample from "Slip it in" and used it in their song and that Dave Grohl didn't record his drums for that song at all.
All Grohl did was use the herta lick from Slip it in, the rest is original. I wouldn’t call that “stealing a whole intro”, it’s just paying homage to a great song
This is filler. Recycled RUclips content which is years old and the information has been divulged a million times. Kyuss and Queens as well as Josh have become a constant internet feedback loop of recycled and rehashed infotainment.
The radio bits are mostly annoying
You're listening to them wrong...
YES!!!
Yes
Yes
Julien Leclair What should the next qotsa video be about do you think?
Talk about their first record or maybe all the band members switching all the time, stuff like that.
Julien Leclair Both ideas sound cool 👍 But what about another top 10 video? If i find enough interesting facts i can do one about their first one for sure.
Yeah 👍
