OG 2012 DISCUS Men Final

Robert HARTING was the favorite of this final ...and he won with 68,27m but the best discus thrower of the day was for me the Iranian Ehsan HADADI who took the early lead with 68,18m in the 1st round . He fouled 5th attempt over 69m to finish 2nd by 9cm ! HADADI has certainly a great technique with one of the best entries I have ever seen when HARTING is relying more on his size and power with a blocking delivery and style very similar to Lars RIEDEL . Gerd KANTER had a good day and was very close with 68,08m . All 3 medallists in less tan 20cm !!! . Virgilius ALEKNA and Piotr MALACHOWSKI being about 1m down for 4th and 5th places.You had to throw 63,98m to make top 8 after 3 rounds. There was no American thrower in the top 12 . The Golden US discus throwers times of OERTER and co is now history. But the German had 2 throwers in top 8 with Martin WIERIG finishing 6th . CASANAS 7th made another world final and the huge Indian Vikas GOWDA completed the 8 at 64,79m.

I have no insight into his lifting numbers but power, rather than strength, is the important attribute for throwing; his technique is not as good as others in the finals but he definitely generates a lot of force and occasionally pops a 65m+ throw, as he did in prelims.
In all likelihood he probably is a lot stronger than he looks, however.

Yes, you are right. All discus throwers are very strong. I wonder how far he could possibly throw with a better coach and better technique? I would say 70m without a doubt.

I personally think all of the throwers in the finals have specifics they can work on to throw farther, though Jorge Fernandez definitely has more than the top guys.

Hadaddi great technician but very very very strong too ! see half squats to a bench with 400+kgs.
