- I'm a little late on this one, but wanted to share my thoughts about freelance/indie dev life at about the three month mark.
I hope you find this informative or helpful in some way if you're considering doing something similar. Cheers!

Who am I?
I'm Peter Elbaum, a software engineer living in Raleigh, North Carolina. I make videos about code, software engineering career development, and self improvement. I also have a newsletter (peterelbaum.co...) and tweet my thoughts on money, work, and being a great dev. Feel free to get in touch!
Hi Peter, I've been a contractor for about 10 years. I like the idea of seasonal work, and taking time off between work/contracts. It's something I need to remember to do. Good luck with your freelance/contracting career.
These types of videos showing how things are going and what is or isn't working are interesting and helpful.
Stress + long hours sitting destroys the back, I have the same situation here. It's why I am rethinking my life's strategy.
Gotta take breaks in between to take some fresh air and exercise, you don’t have to go to a gym but you can do yoga outside, run or walk in the neighborhood to keep the blood flowing. It’s a habit for me to sit and do work, especially if type like a perfectionist/determined type of person to finish a task before the day ends but I’m learning to just relax.

Hi! I'm a web developer myself. Have been working on my own commercial project too. Very glad to find and subscribe to your channel! Keep up the good work!
Awesome, thank you!
Would you mind mentioning what online courses you took?
Also, which freelancing direction are you thinking of? Was looking into Shopify development recently, but still researching. Scary to give up a stable income!
Curious to know where your journey goes. Also rethinking working full time without feeling fulfilled and postponing gratification till retirement. Would love to hear how being a contractor is different from being a full time employee. Make sure you set enough money aside for taxes this time 😅
Best of luck, Peter! Look into yoga for helping with your back pain.
Thank you, I will! :)
Hey man, found your coding bootcamp video and was wondering if you think C# is a good language to learn. The coding bootcamp Truecoders offers it. I’m just debating if it’s worth it for me or bot
C# is fine, it's common in big enterprises. Battle-tested and has a long history. Just depends if you think you'd like working with it.
So I just listened to your podcast on develop yourself # 47 in which you mention your new udemy course and a code for podcast listeners? I am interested but did not see a link or code to said udemy course on iOS podcasts or Spotify. Please help. I am glad to have found your podcast and RUclips channel. 🎉
Thanks for listening! :)
Apologies about the links, here's a link with a coupon code for you: www.udemy.com/course/junior-to-senior/?couponCode=DVYFREE
Also updating the show notes now :)
Thanks a lot
