  • Welshpool & Llanfair Railway. Two part video taken in glorious weather at Easter time.
This video shows the preparation and work that all the staff and volunteers do to ensure that this magnificent narrow gauge railway presents itself to the very best effect. I hope more people learn of this wonderful trip between Llanfair Caereinion and Welshpool.
My sincere thanks go to everyone who kindly helped me so enthusiastically with the making of these videos.
Preparation of the locomotives and the movements in the yard are presented prior to showing views and operations seen during the journey to the other end of the line.
Particular mention has been made to some of the coaches that the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway acquired from the Zillertalbahn (or the Ziller Valley Railway) in the Austrian Tyrol. WooWooMad has also made a video on this great railway.
The track gauge of these railways is 2 foot 6 inches (762 mm) and similarities between the two railways can be pleasantly seen from the two videos.

Thank you for the very nice video ! Back in 1975 I spent some months volunteering on the WLLR, there was a standard gauge sleeper coachbody on the Llanfair platform for accommodation. Raven Square was still a dream waiting to come true and the time table was rumoured to fit the Black Lion pubs' lunch hour. I spent most of my time in the then fairly new workshop, just read on the internet that it will be (or is) replaced in a GBP 1.5 million project. Things have gone far in those years ! Good to see that it's still largely run by volunteers and going strong. High time we have a look for ourselves again and tackle Golfa bank once more ...

Lovely video. Felt like I was watching it on the discovery channel or something similar.

Dear Alastair, Thank you very much, that certainly is a great comment. I'm very glad that you liked the video. There is lots more to come on narrow gauge, I've just got to find the computer time in my busy railway schedule of a life to edit them. Thanks again, very best wishes to you, WooWooMad.

Dear ramsey barber, Ah! . . .Part two is a little different as it is shot over the shoulders of the footplate crew as the loco is now travelling smokebox to the front. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comments. Very best wishes WooWooMad.
