One thing that may be worth mentioning on the jameis comparison is that jameis plays like this healthy, where baker was playing through a foot issue changing cleats and trying to massage out pain on the sidelines. Credit to baker for playing through it, where o Connell was carted off the field in a cast for a bruise.
Mayfield and the offense went into the twilight zone for two quarters after Irving stepped on Mayfield’s foot at the start of the second quarter. Mayfield re-wrapped his foot later and returned to form for the fourth quarter. Fortunately Irving didn’t step on his already injured foot from the Panthers game.
It baffles me how Coen has completely turned this offense around with his play design and people want him gone. We consistantly, especially on our opening game drives, great 3rd down conversions, top 10 in rushing when our run game has been garbage since forever, and we put up at least 24 points a game even through injuries and self inflicted mistakes. AND THIS IS HIS FIRST TIME PLAY CALLING IN THE NFL
The injuries are not fluke. Muscles are another story. Fluke injuries include someone stepping on your foot a hard hit causing a broken bone concussion. Muscle injuries are a conditioning training issue. You may train one way then as age sets in you must allow more time for the body to heal. But the issue isn't only with the Bucs. It is league wide. Some teams more than others. One may also check with other teams see if age is a common denominator or if conditioning is the common denominator. Remember also each and every person is different so nothing is one size fits all
The "SCREEN" pass is being used too predictably. Other teams are game planning on defense and are now able to force an interception, mix it up Cohen! And the fumble....yes Baker needs to pull it down and just tuck and roll like Tom Brady afraid of being hit, but Baker being a scrapper that isn't his first instinct....yet! If the Bucs offense can put up a lot of points and get into a shootout with the Chargers I think they can win, but if they get into a grind it out style of a game and it's close, the odds go way down!
The screen game we have to lean on because for some reason probably Bakers’ inconsistency & efficiency passing the ball downfield is not a strength of this offense. Warren Sharp broke down Bakers throws last season that he was top 5 passing to RBs, but passing to non RBs he was one of the streakiest QBs in the league. Has yet to have a stretch > 2 games as a Buc w/o throwing an INT or fumbling and in his career he’s only had >2 games without a turnover twice.
To add insult to injury: even if Baker had thrown a perfect pass and Otton had made a great catch... the whole play would not have counted because McMillan was offsides! So an INT on a dead play🤬🤦♂️
This game was nearly a Palindrome. 14 pts 1st and 4th qtrs, 0 pts 2nd & 3rd, same 2 guys (Mac and White) scored in opposite order 1st and 4th qtrs, 1st and 4th drives were mostly passing drives, 2nd and 3rd TD drives were more run based with one big key pass play with Hurdles even (Otton's hurdle wasnt nearly as successful/memorable as Mike's 😂)! The one thing missing is White had a 5 yd receiving TD, then a 3 yd Rush TD, needed 2 rushing (or a 2nd TD off a screen/dumpoff) to be complete.
I listened to the PR gameday stream, since this game was not shown in my market. So I was first able to watch it tonight on replay. The Raiders D was clearly schemed and instructed to attack the quick passes and screens. Most of the tipped passes y'all joked about on the live stream, were on those plays. Even still: the first INT was just a freakishly athletic play by Chaisson. The guy contoured his body against his own momentum to tip the pass to himself!! And I'm pretty sure the Bucs scored on basically the same play call, on the opposite side, for their last TD. But I think you were overly harsh on the fumble, Matt. If you watch the replay: Baker does tuck the ball as he cradles up, to avoid the big guy who tackles him around the shoulders, but he's then pinned with the ball "exposed" at his midsection. What got him was the Raiders sent like a safety, cus it is number 7 who comes in and swipes the ball out while Baker's arms are pinned by the DLineman. I think you can make an argument that he should have eaten the sack faster or thrown it away but I don't think that he was being loose or slow to tuck the ball. The 2nd INT was just a bad decision. Even if Mauch had not been pushed into him while he was throwing, it would have taken a great throw and a tough catch from Otton. So even if he had pulled off the throw, if Otton bobbles it, it probably gets intercepted still.
Just look up Patrick Mahomes stats this year. Far less tds and around the same ints. Look at Arron Rogers stats. Baker has been slighted in the qb standings. Baker is still hovering between 6th and 8th place not 15th or lower. Look at Cousins less tds same or more ints this year. We are lucky to have Baker vs Mahomes Rogers Cousins. Heck Look at the great Dak don't worry be happy. Our defense needs to be a lot better. I know injuries plague the team. So either practices aren't designed properly or training and conditioning is failing badly. Most muscle strains are from lak of or over training conditioning with too little recovery time. Mistakes are made worse by being tired the body and mind haven't had proper rest before the game.😊
I have to agree a 7-6 first place is nothing to brag about. 10-3 would be great. Guess we will see 10-7, 11-6? better but it depends on how we play in post season. If we make there lol plenty of games left for us to drop the ball.
I think their success in the 1st Qtr made them think, this is going to be a cake walk and they let up a little. When the Raiders began to have success the Bucs didn't know how to regain their energy until the game seemed to be on the line.
Mayfield is an imperfect player but he also has intangibles that make him a special player that can lead a team to the Superbowl, which is what I expect he will do this year or next.
10 wins with so many injuries in 2024 probably is an improvement over 10 wins with so few injuries in 2023. However, in-game coaching decisions have not improved and lost the winnable KC and SF games for sure and possibly 1-2 others. If we win a playoff game, Bowles probably stays. If not, he’s probably out.
We dont need this team peaking just yet. They are where they need to be. This team runs the football and bullys the opposition in the 4th quarter. The sky isnt falling. The playoffs arent this weekend, so all the pontificators that know how well we will do in the playoffs are just gaslighting themselves. Baker is one of the biggest reasons for the team's success. You cant compare him to Jameis, because Jameis never lead any of his teams to the playoffs. Enjoy the fact that this team yet again plays meaningful football in December. It wasnt always this way. Enjoy the ride while it lasts...
Seriously Scott/Matt how come nobody seems to be talking about this!? Just looking at his targets not just on the season totals but also his targets/game are seriously low by far the lowest he's ever had in his career. He won't get the record because of Coen, it's hard to be upset or fault Coen because his offense has been so good but he did do all that talk about players over plays but he never seems to use Mike I feel like as fans we need to be the ones vocal for Mikes targets because he won't be

Keep coan hes the best thing our offense has had in a long time go bucs

You know I forgot that happened!
That really could have been the issue for the offense?

We constitantly get touchdowns*
Nobody wants him gone, what are you smoking?
@@austinburns9480 it's not what i'm smoking, it's what i see on a daily basis from idiotic bucs fans on social media posts.

Defense killed it Sunday. Baker is that you?
@rockbottomrhythm_blues they did indeed. No I'm not Baker.

I don't know I'm kind of betting its Bowles HC/ Coen OC again next year. Just how I'm seeing it mostly likely happening.
#Fire Bowles
WOOOOO

Bucs bout to go 1-3 in these last 4 games. Bowles finally fired.
