This is what most of today's music lacks, passion and thinking outside the box. Exceptional talent! Music these days you only need to hear the first 30 seconds to know how the rest of the song goes.
@@ArbitraryLifestyle That’s a pretty limited perspective. Many studio versions of songs are superior to live versions. There is so much more that can be captured in a studio setting that can’t be replicated live.
@@MojoPin1983 I politely disagree with both of you. I think that both versions are just different. Studio version is the best take possible, with the best controlled environment possible, with a lot of time and planning behind, retakes, selected equipment, etc.. If you want to hear what the band composed, what the vision of the song from their perspective is, then this is the most accurate way. Live versions to me are the greatest representation of what art originally was back when recording wasnt a thing, and a great way to preserve the experience. There are no retakes, just that one time. Sure you can enhance, mix, master the tracks if they were recorded separately in post production, but you cant ask Jeff to do the same thing again, and the mood he and the band had in that precise moment cannot be replicated. Thats something that studio recording misses, because if they mess up they can just do it again, but misses and sound defects, the room reverb, the people singing along, the comments he did that night, all of that is legit, and is the only way to travel back in time to that moment, at least as an spectator from the future, behind the glass of our phones/pc monitors/tvs.
Reaching beyond your grasp is so human, and especially artistic. Jeff was built of that earth. Always seemingly passing the horizon of his peers. Too much soul for that single human body; he had to transcend early.

I'm moving to TN soon and was going through some things, packing for the move. I found a movie ticket that I had written the name of the girl I went with, "Tara R." in 1996. Growing up in a small town in Georgia I had ZERO exposure to music like this or music of any variety really. Country, country, country!!! That's all they played. It's so neat and sad to think about people in the audience getting to experience Jeff and having "a fucking magical moment", while other people in the world have not even zero idea that it exists.
To be brutally honest it wasn’t one of his best songs, but it doesn’t matter cause it’s all about Jeff and the band’s beautiful way of expression and talent to form the music together in such a great way it becomes a joyful experience to the listener. One of the greats gone too soon. ❤️🎶
I actually think What Will You Say is one of his better songs, though this version isn’t spectacular. I prefer the Glastonbury, and Mystery White Boy versions.

That’s a lot of magic coming from a v-neck shirt 2 sizes too big and a duct taped Rickenbacker
Did he ever NOT wear a V neck? That’s the one thing that hasn’t aged well. The Ric is timeless!

I'll bet it was Fruit of the Loom or Haines in one of those packages.

i'm sure they cried their eyes out 2 1/3 years later, thinking back to this
there's a stereotype that germans are not that expressive. it was probably cause of that

Still so breathtaking even after all these years. You are so so so missed, Jeff.
Surprised that no studio version exists or has yet to be unearthed. Gorgeous song.
I'm very happy about that. Studio versions fucking suck.

@@fernandomartin9190 well said.
I had this version on bootleg
I was so happy when I found this on YT
Definitely my favorite Jeff song, hits you right in the soul
He was the best live I’ve ever seen…. Always gave more than he received….. a truly devastating loss to music😢and his fans
Reaching beyond your grasp is so human, and especially artistic. Jeff was built of that earth. Always seemingly passing the horizon of his peers. Too much soul for that single human body; he had to transcend early.
How far would he have gone if the mighty wolf had not claimed his life? Jeff is forever a star that only shined a short time.
He had everything still in front of him, such a tragedy. I only became aware of him after he had passed.
One of his best live performances
I see this on every live performance of his and I never disagree, ever!!
Glastonbury version and set maybe the greatest live recording of the last 30 years but this is still epic!!
This shakes my soul.
Breaks and Takes my heart.
The last “what will you say” is angelic
this song is so insanely beautiful and painful i cant even rn
I can feel his pain, I'm sure he loved his face when he seen him, rest in peace dear Jeff, we miss you always.
What an incredible performance. Hair on the back of my neck stood up! Holy shit!
@Matt Woodland You should probably shave that.
A heart-stopping performance. ❤
