04:13 - Excellent point & outstanding primer - thank you! Well, 8 years later, your video is still helping DJI drone n00bs get a feel for everything that goes into drone flight, & how important it is to definitely have one's shit together prior to essentially 'piloting' a tiny aircraft responsibly. I subbed; thanks for sharing the knowledge.
Real cool, Thanks for sharing, I have not bought one yet, but I am looking at flight videos and here I am looking at yours. I am still on the fence about buying one. Your video was very easy to understand. great job!!!
+Peter Trent If you are on the fence these little quads are a great way to get started. I paid $65. for the Hubsan. Lots of fun, hard to fly. Here is a video. ruclips.net/video/eav1ABervug/видео.html
Thank you for the video. While I don't have a DJI I do fly a Cheerson CX20 with many of the same features. Your video was very informative and I appreciate it.
+glen sebastian Cheers. Check out my playlist of videos regarding the Naza M software, Course Lock, Home Lock and mounting cameras other than the Gp Pro.. Read the manual and look at lots of You Tubes before you fly and first flights, keep it close. Have fun. ruclips.net/p/PL7A826313C2382D59
Hi Edward! I´ve decided to buy one of these Old Phantoms as a classic piece to be together with my other two drones, a DJI MAVIC Pro and a DJI Phantom 4. Your video has been very helpful! Many thanks! I hope you see this message of me so much time after you posted this video. By the way, I have just subscribed to your channel. Greetings from Argentina
Did you get your Classic Phantom 1 ? , I also just bought a brand new sealed in box Phantom 1.1.1 to keep safe as a Classic I am sure it will be a collectors Drone in a few years from now :-)
You are so lucky you are able to fly yours. I bought one and it has never flown despite getting all the green lights indicating it is ready. It just flips over violently on the ground when I give it some throttle. Mine has the compass on one strut and the antenna cable on the other , But it also has another cable on the same side as the antenna that looks like it should plug into something. Any ideas?
Edward, Thanks for sharing, seems like you and I bought our 1.1.1 at about the same time and from the same place. I also bought the case, 5 extra batteries and extra props and guards. The props are the 9" size. (they DO add some extra power and time). I am a location manager/scout (30 years). Several local directors have Phantom quads (giving me the opportunity to do some first hand experiencing). They have the P3 pro versions and have had a huge learning curve. I decided on this version ( I only want to take 'stills' anyway). Buying the 1.1.1 is taking small steps instead of jumping off a cliff. Some great tips here... I'll look forward to your next vid. ps, A gimbal is next on the list. Always a shifty breeze here and many of my stills (with go pro) are tilted. Best R. Michael Charske
Good Video...thinking about getting one for myself...have you or are you going to do the firmware up-dating ...seem like more people have problems once they start with all the up-dating on all these dji phantoms...
Edward Homer Dinoxt..Re:Firmware..Check out my video Naza M V2 >> ruclips.net/video/Qv62tqWh19o/видео.html I just recently got my Phantom 1.1.1 and the firmware is up to date.
Well done and good idea for the transportation box :) Love it!: ) Excellent video! :) Greetings from Ireland! :) I love flying my Q500 for some aerial footage! :) Thumbs up from me! :)
Zak Vargas Yea night and day. The hubsan is a fun machine though. My daughter and her guy were just here and we had a blast fooling with it. I wasn't worried if he crashed it and lost a prop or something...
How do I check the version of Phantom I own? Not certain it is a 1.1 or a 1. This one's second hand with very little paperwork except for a printed quick-start manual off the net ...
+jaycee bettelsheim Not sure. Plugging it into the NAZA Software maybe...Check out this Facebook page, great info for newbies. facebook.com/groups/722037141170314/?ref=bookmarks Also check out my video with info re: NAZA software assistant. ruclips.net/video/Qv62tqWh19o/видео.html cheers
+Edward Homer Yes all the help in the world helps, for sure. I live on the outer fringe of the Highlands of Scotland where I a isolated in my Phantom interest. Just connected everything up Naza M onscreen/ usb cable pplugged in to laptop and Phantom / transmitter switched on/ Phantom switched on. I heard all the beeps signifying startup but then nothing happend within the Naza M software No connection seen at the status onscreen l.e.d's My anti-virus s/ware blocks the driver installation when trying to download from DJI page ....
+jaycee bettelsheim Not sure. Try downloading drivers before plugging in Phantom. If problems persist go to Face Book page for help. There are people there with more experience than me.
Tried calibrating the compass today but not sure it worked. Manual says all lights should exit upon a successful calibration. Mine went to blinking green ....
+Edward Homer Just to clarify...DJI says not to use smart phone ap and camera with the Phantom 1.1.1. Maybe someone has better info than me. Search You Tube etc..cheers
Dime That is really important info. Are you sure about this? If so I will make correction in the video. I got the info that the drone will drop to 20 meters from the manual. Thanks for the help Dime. cheers Ed
Bada Bing..Got the AS 15 mount at B&H in NY. $5. In this video I adapt a clip designed to hold cell phones onto a tri pod for the AS 15. I use that with my phantom as well so that I don't have to put it in the water proof case and deal with fogging up....cheers ruclips.net/video/I43ZC_YQSOI/видео.html
I enjoyed your video very much . I have watched a lot of videos lately on drones or quadcopters and decided I should buy one to learn to fly before spending a lot on one . So I bought a Tarantula X6 and now I know it was not a good choice for a beginner . I am 59 and starting to think just maybe I started too late the X6 is hard to fly unless your like Quadcopter 101 guy and have a desert to fly in ( no trees ) I live in East Texas we have TREES . But after watching your video I think I could fly the DJI "with a little luck". You say you bought yours from B&H photo , all I have seen were over $600 . Do you have a phone number for them by chance ? Thanks Spencer
Spencer Boaz I just looked at B&H web site. It says the Phantom 1.1.1 is discontinued. Go on the net, E-bay etc and do a search. The 1.1.1 is certainly a good machine for a beginner. I started with the Hubsan X4, a tricky machine, but it was a cheap intro. If you can't find a 1.1.1 try our Facebook page search for "DJI Phantom 1.1.1".cheers, Ed
Edward I have started to look around and I'v seen a few for around $400 and if there still around by the 8th I will order one . After seeing your first flight and how it handled I was sold on the Phantom 1.1.1 I don't wan't the #2 or #3 not only for the price but the price of the battery's . I am rtired , and my budget is small so I need to keep the cost down and it looks like the 1.1.1 is all I can afford to buy and maintain . I like your keep it simple and straight talk . Maybe as I go I will learn what all the abbreviations stand for but as for me I need to keep it as simple as I can these days Thanks Spencer .
Spencer Boaz Spencer. Thanks for the input. I am going to review and sub-title what the abbreviations stand for. here is a video I just posted about the Naza M V2 Assitant softeware for the Phantom for beginners. ruclips.net/video/Qv62tqWh19o/видео.html I found this a little confusing at first, I hope this helps. Good luck with your drone when you get it and just start slow and easy and you will be fine. cheers, Ed
Edward Homer Spencer, check out our facebook page "DJI Phantom 1.1.1" Someone has a used one there now with extra batteries. Also, once you start flying this is a great support group.
Hi Ed. I have been flying the cheap Syma drones for a while now and just bought an older DJI Phantom 1.1.1 off Ebay. Did you need any software to set up your drone initially? I am looking for the software to install on my computer.

very informative. realistic review & not just a bunch of tech specs we can read on the box. Thank you for this!
Edwin Martin Thanks. Yea, I try to avoid "tech spec geek speak" and boil it down to basics. cheers

Hi Edward, where did you get the AS 15 mount? Do you have the website link for the mount? Thanks so much!
big step up from the hubsan
Zak Vargas Yea night and day. The hubsan is a fun machine though. My daughter and her guy were just here and we had a blast fooling with it. I wasn't worried if he crashed it and lost a prop or something...
Regarding magnetism:
Just store the legs away from the speakers, and put the rest of it wherever ;)
I bought it second hand, probably 3rd? however, I'm losing my mind trying to get it to fly,. any helpful advice?? besides the obvious???
G Good you may have to update the software.
This guy rules
Thanks man. I have other videos relating to the Phantom. Check them out. cheers..

I hope some one can please tell me why my controller won't show a green light? I just got one, and iv been trying to get it to work!!!!!!!!
can I use my gopro app on my iphone to see what is being recorded or will it interfere with the drones gps ?
+MSMac8084 DJI says it will interfere.

How long does the battery last for you?
+Andrew Henry 8 to 10 minutes. Depends on type of flying you are doing.
what signal does phantom 1 use.. 2.4ghz or 5.8ghz.???? thx
It uses the 2.4 ghz. Here is a good article.
www.jammer-store.com/drones-frequencies.html
but i see some dji phantom1 use 5,8ghz.. it is true or not ??? thankyou
READ the article.
You should know that if you are flying higher than 60 ft, say 300ft, then it will return home at 300 ft. It will not go down to 60ft.
