Well, Marc and his 2 friends basically had spots 1,2 and 3. She came and bought his spot #1 for 800$. It's 1 phone per customer so if all 3 of the friends had wanted a phone, Marc would have had to wait another couple hours (or even longer if they had sold out before he got back in).
BUT
His MVP friend number 3 didn't even want a phone, he just stayed in line because he wanted to hang out or whatever, enabling marc to get his phone AND the 800$ for his #1 spot (which I hope he split up nicely!)

They sold their consoles and made their money, without really caring who they sold them to. Now, I'm not trying to say that what the scalpers do is acceptable. Personally, I waited for more than half a year to get my PS5 from a retailer because I refused to give those greedy reseller scalpers any extra money. However, I do understand why companies tolerate scalpers. The only way to truly stop them or make it difficult for them is if people stop buying from them. Unfortunately, many people, especially in the US, are willing to pay double the price just to get their hands on a product a few months earlier. They don't realize that they're enabling these greedy scalpers to thrive, and they're also making it harder for future technology releases. Let's see how the sales of the PS6 go, but I'm assuming that scalpers are already gearing up for it. After all, some of them made millions by reselling PS5 consoles.

So that means there are more units sold then units that are used.
This means that new games won't get that much sales, because there are more ps5 in storags then in use.

So it's not really a win-win situation, this actually began during the PS4 release when they were selling the consoles with less money revenue to fight against Xbox cause the PS3 release was a huge fail.
