    The german soldier absolutely saw Norman at the end, the reason he didnt kill him was because he was exactly like Norman in the beginning of the movie who was put onto a job he didnt want, he didnt want to kill. He was the German version of Norman

      A contextual clue was given earlier, in the scene of people who were executed for refusing to fight. The German army pressed into service all able bodied men of the countries they had occupied, those men were used as frontline troops, cannon fodder. It is safe to assume non of them, given a choice, would have killed their allies.

    It's good that you're careful not to spoil er lead them too much when it comes to movies. But when it comes to historical movies it may help to provide them with a slight bit of context. Just a few sentences on where and when so they're not entirely disorientated when the movie starts. Westerners learn these things from a young age, which is why movies (like Fury, or Dunkirk, or Inglorious Basterds, or 1917) deliberately don't point it out anymore as that feels condescending to a Western audience. But to people from another continent it may need more context.

    • @Trazynn
      @Trazynn 3 месяца назад +2

      And for Inglorious Basterds they need to be told that this is fiction, it did not actually happen. It's similar to Django Unchained.

    • @leylak-h7939
      @leylak-h7939 3 месяца назад

      Good point, I also have often thought that historical reference & context should be described with some films even if only in brief. It would help them to appreciate the films even more. They’re all very smart ppl & usually get to grips with all the films regardless of any knowledge of the matter but I agree it would be helpful.

    • @Trazynn
      @Trazynn 3 месяца назад

      Right. And of course Fury is also fiction. No such tank standoff ever happened. Just like 1917. But that is different from movies that deliberately contradict history. Like Inglorious, or Watchmen, Once Upon A Time I Hollywood.
      I suppose for Inglorious Basterds it's best to show them Der Untergang first. That movie is highly accurate, after that they can discern Tarantino's satire.

    • @leylak-h7939
      @leylak-h7939 3 месяца назад +1

      @@jefforymitchell5697 then you’d think wrong. If you’ve watched, many of the films relating to historical events they’re not aware of. What does the Indian army have to do with their knowledge of western historical events? They literally are only aware of worldwide events that they’ve been shown on this & their other Channel. It wouldn’t harm for a brief description of the historical significance to be made clear. Also when some of the films are set in an era but is a work of fiction too should be explained I think.

    I want to mention Raeen’s assessment of ‘Norman’ in his wrap up. He thought ‘Norman’ was “timid but a hero.” The medic that speaks to ‘Norman’ in the end also comes to the same conclusion, that ‘Norman’ was a hero. I’ve served in combat and, generally speaking, the living who come home from war and are called heroes have a strange relationship with that term. Most don’t agree it applies to them. Most who have served in combat know that the real heroes are the ones that don’t come home.

    • @TexasVeteranPatriot
      @TexasVeteranPatriot 2 месяца назад

      Exactly. Most of the heroes came home in a body bag. The survivors think they are the furthest thing from a hero because they made it home. Some never get over that they made it. Survivors guilt is a bitch. Oorah, brother.

    Babu really should try to watch more and talk just a little bit less, he keeps missing what is going on, getting things wrong then saying he doesnt understand whats happening (seen this happen over a few different films) and it can be helped by paying attention. I love the guy but he's missing out on things on the screen! 🤣 and he is so astute when he does take it all in and then comments.
    I'm glad they got to see the dirty, grim parts of war when it just isn't ending but people are still dying what seems like for no reason at this point. You should show them the 2022 version of All Quiet On The Western Front (Im Westen Nichts Neues) I think that is a great warfilm that in fact shows it isn't all patriotism and not a case of "every man is willing to die for his country" at all. It's important they learn that war isn't all marching and heroism too. It's also really interesting to note that they;re both totally cool with killing unarmed and surrendered prisoners of war lol!
    I kinda wish they had realised that the scene at the end of them all drinking was because they knew they were going to DIE; not because they were so sure they were going to win. Raeen understood how much trouble they were in to be fair. I also don't get why Babu is screaming "kill them kill them" when the kid is literally facing probably still over 100 pissed off SS troops, that demonstrates a real lack of appreciation of the situation lol oh and the German soldier at the end definitely saw Norman.
    Hate sounding so harsh towards my favourite villagers man! 🙃
    P.S. Tank, not tanker!! The people in the tank are tankers, but the conveyance itself is a tank.

      The Rourke's Drift battle was made up or exaggerated by the British because of the huge British loss at Isandlwana. It was a face-saving propaganda exercise. The British probably machine-gunned a village of women and children, and palmed it off as a heroic defense against overwhelming odds. Imperial Britain was prone to lying and deception in its affairs.

    There needs to be clarification on what they are seeing at the first camp. American men at the time weren't allowed by society to process their feelings publically, so the Sergeant's advice of "don't get too close to anyone" applied to himself as well as Norman. That's also why he hides behind trucks to cry. Understandably, he couldn't be seen by his men crying.
    The truck carrying the bodies were carrying American soldiers. That's how lethal the war was. Norman, a six week green recruit, was replacing a veteran that had been part of the crew for years. That is why the crew were rude to him in the beginning. Norman had to earn their respect. He did it within the one day the movie takes place.
    Also, the bodies being driven by reminds Norman that he is alive and one of the lucky ones, for now.
    8:30 The difference is going to church and being a good person are two different things. America is full of Sunday going pious "Christians" that lie, cheat, steal and do it with a smile because "Jesus will save me".
    12:45 Not just one but four. The whole tank died.
    17:20 That was just Bible caring for a dying German. Even to this day, there isn't a lot of sympathy for dying Nazis.
    23:10 They were German soldiers hiding in a department store with a very big gun. This was Norman's first kill. He knew he was shooting at a person and ending their life. That would be a big moment in any soldier's life.
    24:24 These people were NOT innocent. They were the local Nazi functionaries that made that governing system possible. They were the people benefiting from the Holocaust.

    Funny how the opening comments about self sacrifice and patriotism have nothing to do with the film, or war in general. I just saw a movie called Monkey Man (released April 5, 2024) starring British born Indian actor Dev Patel (who previously starred in Hotel Mumbai) that I think these fellas would love to see. It's a Universal Pictures production from the USA and filmed in Indonesia but is supposed to take place entirely in a fictional city in India (Mumbai locations are used as establishing shots) and a large portion of the spoken dialogue is in Gujarati with English subtitles. Monkey Man's fight scenes are highly inspired by the John Wick movies as well as martial arts stars Tony Jaa (Ong-Bak & The Protector) and Iko Uwais (The Raid & The Raid: Redemption).
    The movie is about an underground fighter seeking revenge against the crime syndicate that murdered his entire village. He wears a King Kong mask in the ring and the fans call him Monkey Man but he wears it to represent Hanuman. Hanuman is a monkey faced deity in Hinduism and a devoted companion of the god Rama.
    "Dev's parents are Indian Gujarati Hindus, though they were both born in Nairobi, Kenya, where there is a significant Indian community; they immigrated to England separately in their teens, and first met in London. Patel was raised in the Hindu faith. He speaks some Gujarati. His ancestors hail from Jamnagar and Unjha in Gujarat, India." - Dev's Wikipedia page

    The funny thing with the explanation of the movie at the start is... I think its correct, but not talking about the main focus (the Americans) but actually the Germans. Its showing what patriotism can lead to, and what many were forced to do for protection of their country - though obviously not for a good cause, but many didn't know at the time (or were ideologically driven). Much like today in many ways. All wars have two sides and both think they are right (and usually both sides are wrong, but... that goes without saying) that have a wide variety of people involved.

Also they are far too judgemental about something as awful as a young boy being asked to shoot a man in cold blood. I guarantee neither of them could do it, and that's a good thing, not a bad. War is horrific for both sides, not just the winning side. Most people, rightly, don't want to kill others. That should be applauded, not considered cowardice. Stik to giving them Marvel films and cheap blockbusters - they're not capable of watching anything that requires thought. This was a frustrating and disappointing watch.

      They're too used to thinking about movies in terms of heroes and villains - they don't understand that this is a movie about war bringing out the worst in all of us. They think Brad Pitt's character is the hero, so everything he says must be right - even if he's telling Norman to shoot another man in cold blood. They think all Germans are villains, so they can't make sense of why the German soldier spared Norman at the end. After all, why would a villain show mercy?

Shermans and to a lesser extent Stuart tanks were the USA's go-tos and most versatile series, smaller tanks that could load, shoot faster and outmaneuver the larger, more heavily armoured Tiger & Panzer tanks the Germans developed. German tanks were OP offensively & defensively but slow and clumsy, like bringing a double barrel shotgun to a quickdraw pistol duel.

    This was interesting... Im sure if you listen real hard, at some point there's a section where no one talks for 3 seconds.. I know it sounds unrealistic as hell but it's in there.. This should be called People talking bollocks for an hour.. The best bit about this is the joke Raeen gave us.. He wants to join the army... Mr. Scaredypants himself. He wouldn't even have to get on a plane and jump out. Way before that, the enemy would show him a picture of a dog and he would be MIA instantly. MPs out looking for him all over india.. 😅

    The movie is fairly accurate except for the fact it seriously underestimates the capabilities of the late (1944) model M4A376(W)HVSS Sherman tank. Its sloped frontal armor was just 12.7 mm thinner than that of the vaunted German Mk 6 'Tiger' tank, and its high velocity 76.2mm cannon could easily penetrate the Tiger tank's side armor at 1000m, as opposed to the what the scene in the movie suggests. Hollywood history. The irony being that most US tankers preferred the earlier lower velocity 75mm cannon version because it's HE round was far more effective knocking out the equally deadly German FLAK 88mm anti-tank gunners they encountered 7X more frequently than German tanks.

    I thought they would have more of a reaction to the religious devotion of Shia’s character, but they didn’t seem to acknowledge it at all. Normally in these reaction videos they seem to have a strong (usually positive) response to religious topics/characters, but it didn’t seem to come up much here.

      The SS grew into a parallel armed force in Germany. They started out as a personal bodyguard to Hitler. Historically, the Wermacht was the German army. Hitler just poured more resources into his most loyal troops.

    They really know nothing.. Frist they laugh at a group of men not obeying an officer. Then Babu comea out with obey your elders.. The dumbest thing to ever say in the western world. Its not about age here its about title or rank.. You could be a lieutenant in your 20s giving orders to men in their 30s and 40s. And if you disobeyed those orders in a war scenario you could get court martialed even shot on sight.. So no, the obey your elders dont work here im afaid.. But theyre so not gonna get the whole point of losing your humanity or sanity.. That kid was trying to come back as a human, which is hard to do in a war situation.. Specially back in France in WWII. I don't think i could deal with that girl being blown up.. That would be the deal breaker for me I feel..
