  • This grill has been great. After 3 years of use it is like new and performs flawlessly. My only complaint is that I can't seem to get a good sear on my steaks even though the grill can reach a 600 degree temperature. There is no rust to be seen on the exterior of the grill and it is very well constructed. I deep clean it once or twice a season and use a nylon brush to clean the grates after each use.

    How to sear on spirit e-210: (I own this grill and here's how i do it)
    Melt some tallow and brush it on your cold meat before it goes on the grill. Get the grill ripping hot. Place the meat over the left or right flavorizer. The tallow will drip and ignite on the flavorizer, creating more than enough fire to sear your meat.
    If you want to be really hardcore, you can also remove one of the grates, rotate the remaining grate 90 degrees, and set it directly on top of the three flavorizers. This will put the meat just a few cm above the flavorizer. When the tallow catches fire your meat will be engulfed in flame.
    NOTES:
    Chicken fat works too. Canola oil and many other fats do NOT work because they just don't create nice flavors when burned.
    Be ready to remove the meat and let it rest after the sear. The grill will need to cool down before you can continue cooking at a reasonable temperature.

      I have always regretted purchasing off brand or lesser known brand grills. Given proper care, the Weber should last years and years. Because the burners are stainless steel, they don’t rust and that is the first thing to go on most cheap grills.

    Hey Michael, Great review! I have the same grill. You've taken great care of yours. I have maybe a tip for you to get that elusive sear you crave: Around the 2:12 mark of the video, when you show the cooking grates, I noticed that I place the grates on the grill so that the cooking surface of the grate that is in contact with the meat is the narrow surface. You appear to be cooking on the flat surface of the grate, which is upside down in comparison to my setup. My thinking here is that the flat bottom surface pyramids and concentrates the heat up to the narrower cooking surface (as I have the grates set) resulting in an excellent sear. Give it a try - Flip your grates, heat up your grill, and enjoy the sear! - Tom

    • @michaelerbreviews
      @michaelerbreviews  3 года назад +6

      You are not the first to suggest that. I've tried both ways and actually Weber recommends the flat surface for searing. I believe the primary reason is that I've converted mine to natural gas which does not have the same BTU's as LP

      Sanjay Narayan I currently live in an area that has very mild winters. However I generally have always left my grills outside even when I lived in Syracuse New York which has brutal winters. I always use a cover over the grill. The covers usually last a couple years before they are damaged by the elements. If it’s possible to bring it into a garage or shed during the winter, that would be ideal. If that is not practical then get a good quality cover and you should probably be OK. The Weber uses high-quality materials and the burners are stainless steel some so rust should not be a significant issue. My opinion is that you should always get a high-quality cover whether you store your grill inside or outside. A cover just helps keep the grill clean and speaking of clean, make sure you always give your grill regular cleanings.My grill is over three years old and it looks like it’s brand new still.

My grill will only achieve the heat of 600°. The other consideration other than the BTU difference, is that the orifice size is different as well when you convert to natural gas. So it’s not that easy to make the comparison.

      @@michaelerbreviews thanks! I think mine might be a different version. Its Spirit e210 Classic and I'm in the UK. It's gas only so there's no LP bit. I've emailed Weber UK to ask them. It is a good BBQ but wow thet have cranked up the price! Everything outdoor related has skyrocketed in price since covid! All the best.

    Here I am thinking “I have to get the Weber if I want to grill good steaks” but you’re saying it’s not hot enough for a steak. What do you recommend ??

    • @michaelerbreviews
      @michaelerbreviews  3 года назад +1

      I cook lots of steaks on my grill. What I’m suggesting is that if you like a optimal sear, the two burner weber which I have just simply does not generate enough BTUs, particularly because I converted to natural gas which does not burn as hot as propane.

      Brandon I don’t know anything about a 6 inch long piece of cast-iron. If you’re talking about the black object on the right side of the inside compartment, that is where the LP tank hangs and it is a scale of sorts to indicate how much propane is left in the tank.

    I hate my Weber Spirit. The flavourizer bars rust out quickly and rust flakes pop up into your food. The door falls off every time I use it. The nibs wore out -just plastic and won’t turn the controls and grease fires occur all the time due to the poor design and how grease builds up on the bars and interior belly.

    • @michaelerbreviews
      @michaelerbreviews  Год назад +2

      I wonder if you ever clean it? Maybe the door falls off because it wasn't put together properly. Tolerances are everything.Rust can happen even on the best of grills if they aren't properly maintained, covered from the elements, cleaned, etc.
