Plugin Name: Clothworks
Plugin Developer: Anton Synystsia
Plugin Cost: Some base functions can be accessed for free. Full functionality - $29 - Note that if you’re a paid SketchUcation user, you get a discount off this cost
Where can you get it? You can get it from the SketchUcation store, or by visiting the link in the notes below
One thing to note - to purchase a license, you’re going to also need to have the most up to date version of the SketchUcation store on your computer as well, otherwise you won’t be able to purchase. This was a bit confusing to me until I updated, at which point it got a lot simpler.
Tool Functions:
This extension is designed for simulating cloth within SketchUp. You can use it to hang and drape different fabrics within your SketchUp models.
You can adjust different settings, like gravity, wind, drag, and well as the timestep and rate that the extension calculates and updates your materials.
This extension operates much like the extension MSPhysics, which was developed by the same author. You can interact with the geometry while the extension plays by clicking and dragging.
The way it works is actually fairly simple. You create different groups, then you right click and tell clothworks if they’re cloth, pins, or colliders. A collider is an object that interacts with your fabric without moving. For your cloth to work properly, you’re going to have to subdivide your cloth objects, which you can do by right clicking and going down to your cloth object, then applying a grid.
If you turn on hidden geometry, you can tell that what this is doing is subdividing your face so that it can be draped over your geometry.
Note that there are also options for turning on self-collision in the object section of the menu, allowing even greater realism by keeping the cloth from overlapping itself.
You can also set fixed points, or pins, in order to hang cloth. Note that these are also editable, meaning you can move them around within your cloth simulation. Single and multiple points can be selected and moved.
Wind can also be simulated, though in order for it to be done properly, you need to set your settings a certain way.
One other great feature of this extension is its ability to UV map your materials. Note that this only works if you apply the materials BEFORE you run the simulation.
Once you’ve run your simulation, you can use one of the smooth options within the material settings to really make your model look nice.
Overall, I’m very impressed with this extension. It brings something to SketchUp that you really didn’t have before - that ability to simulate actual cloth. Once you get started with it, it’s actually fairly easy to use.
I am using clothworks fairly often for rendering blankets and similar stuff when a scene has to look a bit more lived in. 2mins of work for great results.
Totally - it's great for that! :)
Super cool extension. I had to create a swagged drape today and tried this. It will require quite a bit of practice on my part and it did not come out exactly as I wanted it, but I won't give up.
You got this!
It's one of the best plugins for SketchUp that I have been following recently. The real application of the effect is huge!
I'm very excited about this extension! Hopefully another tutorial on it next week! Thanks!
Honestly..this looks fun and oddly satisfying.
It is and it is :)
Thank you very much for all your tutorials another softwares related videos. It helps a lot.
Thank you Justin! You sure are quick in bringing this video.
I fiddled around with this extension today until it was time to go to the hospital and I share like it.
You can texture the cloth at any time even after the simulation.
Just reset it, texture it and play it again.
Very, very nice. Just what I needed.
There is some guy mumbling something about Blender LOL!
It's very easy :)
In youTube your Chanel is the best Chanel for learning . please make Vray Tutorials for animation and for rendering.
Make sure to check out my other channel for rendering - ruclips.net/video/t_iYJp5_6OE/видео.html - Thanks!
This would be good for designing realistic shade sails. Thanks for the video
Glad you liked it!
Muy bueno gracias profesor personas como usted cambian este mundo
Thank you very much! I really appreciate it!
Wow finally sketchup is closer to FPP games than ever :)
Lol - unfortunately still a ways to go on that one, but this is a great step forward! :)
loved it waiting for this extension from a long time ...thankyou for a nice video
Thanks very much!
When I pan around the screen or look around in SketchUp while the animation is in motion, the object disappears. I can only see it when I zoom in or sit still. How do I allow the object to still be seen while the animation is in action when I am moving around? Thanks.
i can't move the pin while simulating help me please. When i click the pine Axis not show.
That's a paid feature - did you purchase the extension?
Hi there, thanks for all the great videos and info. I work in spandex decoration and have a really hard time to simulate streched elastic cloth. I use Soapskin a lot, but it's just not the best solution for my work. Any advice is greatly apreciated, thanks in advance!
The only thing I see which is a missing feature, is the ability to adjust "flexibility", or "rigidness". Such that a cone-shaped dress would be less flexible near the top and more flexible near the bottom.
More examples...
Curtains and thin sheets top edges, or seams are less flexible. Bed spreads and comforters are slightly less flexible near the center. Special multi-structure objects would require various flexibility like shirts with button strips, wires vs ropes vs rubber bands, (flex and rigidy changes based on span.) etc...
Also, tension points that "flex", instead of being only rigid mounting points. Which should also be resizable with soft and rigid settings and a gradient of influence.
Also, maybe, push influence pressure for the mouse. (How much it disrupts the animated object, so you can get soft or hard deformations when interacting with the animated object.)
Awesome, unbelievable!!!!!!
Thanks Kelsen!
hi sir recently i saw your videos its really great. but i am a beginner to sketch up, its need more plugins to work and more cost have to spend for plugins ?, pls clarify me about sketch up.
Would this also work with dynamic components or pins?
Like a on-click curtain to open an close with this realistic simulation
I don't think so - I haven't seen anything about this functionality, but I think dynamic components and the way this calculates the movement would conflict...
TheSketchUpEssentials
Would be awsome.
But, thanks
At 3:26 - Moving pins while simulation... how to do this? just tryed it. there are no arrows when i select the pin like in your video. when i switch to the moving tool in sketchup, the simulation stops. hmmm.. otherwise cool stuff you´re showing!
Same problem here. Also the Simple Grid option is not available.
hi,the problem is that when i create a rectangle and make group and clic on right to find clothworks it doesn't appears in the list, somebody help please, thank you.
Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Merhaba. Hello. 3:32 imleç cursor how it turns out. how (red green blue) please help
I don't have the grid option
Hi brother, How do i get ClothWorks's Licene? Thanks... good to hear from you...
Amazing!
Thanks very much!
You could do a example with a model wearing a t-shirt?
Thank you.
I suppose I could - I don't do a lot of people modeling
Thanks for the video Justin. I've been waiting for this one. Can you scrub back and forth between the frames of animation/physics simulation? I normally use Blender for this sort of thing and you can pick the best frame to keep, for the look of geometry you want.
Not that I saw. You can adjust the timestep to speed up or slow down the simulation, but I don't think there's a forward/back tool (other than resetting the geometry). Thanks!
Just downloaded and tried a few simulations. I found a way to chose the exact frame you want by hitting the record button then choosing "Export Recording to SKP" from the ClothWorks menu. This exports each separate frame as separate SketchUp file, so you can choose the exact one you want. It's not ideal but it is workable. Enjoyed your other video on this by the way, especially the ability to simulate ropes using this.
Love this
It's a ton of fun - I'm probably going to create some more tutorials on how to use it starting next week. Thanks!
Good plugin, nice video. I will buy this plugin in short future, maybe you should work as re-seller.
Lol - it's a fun one - thanks Patryk!
TheSketchUpEssentials Sorry if this sound like joke , English is not my native language. Sometimes people have links to the shop in comment and when someone click & buy you getting profit from sell. I don't known the proper name but for sure it give you extra few $ .
Why can't I see the Cloth works (and other extensions) when right clicking a group, please respond. :(( My plate is gonna be due soon.
Between 4:08-4:25 is not correct. You don't need to apply materials before simulation. You can do it afterwards via 'Toggle Draped' feature of the plugin.
Poor wording on my part - you can't apply materials while it's draped is probably a more accurate way to describe it, but you can "un-drape" the cloth and apply the texture, then "re-drape" it. Thanks for the clarification
Hi, how do I move points, or do I need a license for this?
When I click (move) the simulation will stop. The plug does not respond to arrows.
I don't remember - I think moving the points may be a part of the full license - they talk about that more in this thread - sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=69485
but can you render the simulation with some software ? and the most idiotic thing is if you export an fbx to Lumion its not animated
I'm pretty sure building a rendering program that accepts animated FBX is not as easy as you think...
Please make a video on how to make terrain in 2018
There's several videos in this playlist that might be helpful in learning to use Sandbox tools - ruclips.net/video/3G4YWH4faus/видео.html - Thanks!
I have this problem: clothworks-simple-grid-doesnt-show
I have Sketchup Make 2017 on MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012)
Did you solve it?
Is it compatible with sketchup 2020?
How to install it? Make a video on that
The link is in the website: sketchucation.com/resources/plugin-store-download
is there a feature or way that i can collide two clothwork?
Do they not collide if you turn collisions on in both cloth items?
Can you combine this plug-in with a rendering plug-in to get realistic cloth in your renderings? Modeling curtains, bedspreads, and tablecloths to add to renderings would add another level of realism that many renderings lack.
Matthew Jacobson I think there is a problem there because, a lot of times you see the back face and that could give render problems. I am going to do some tests tomorrow.
Interesting point. You could definitely take the cloth you create and put it in a rendering program, but like Willem said, I'm not sure how the visible back side would look. That said, if you were careful with your faces, you'd probably be ok...
TheSketchUpEssentials isn't the whole point to render the end result?
Yeah - I'm just saying if he sets his view up in a way that he can't see the back face, he might be able to avoid the render issues that come with the visible back sides...
TheSketchUpEssentials ah! Good point Justin. It is worth a shot. I tried joint push pull but that caused chaos :-)
When i make a simple grid , it takes a long time to load and stop working ,what can i do ????
Try adjusting your padding when you subdivide your face - ruclips.net/video/QDynn_tkyPg/видео.html - I think a larger value will create less subdivisions...
Can we make water simulation with msphysic?
Not that I'm aware of right now
someone can help me why in my pin not show arrow
Because the arrow is a feature in the paid version
What are the free options in the extension?
I think they talk about that in this forum post - sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=69485
My right click menu for cloth works has vanished. I used it 2 weeks ago and it was fine and now I can't use it only any of my computers. Is there another way to make collider and make cloth?
Sounds like your extension got unloaded - I'd go up in your extension manager and make sure that clothworks is still loaded...
@@Thesketchupessentials I uninstalled and then reinstalled it and I bought it. It says enabled and it's showing up everywhere else, except my right click menu
Hmmm...do you have the SketchUcation extension running? I remember some kind of odd licensing things with this extension and it didn't seem to work quite right verifying a license with that running. Other than that, not really sure
Dear Justin. Here comes the problem again. I like the extension, I downloaded the extension and applied to Sketchup 2018. Thern comes the problem again: PAypal is the only option to buy the license. this makes it impossibble to me because Paypal Chokes me. I hate Paypal, I don´t want to use PAypal. Is there any other legal way to buy licenses like this or others not using Paypal?
I don't know - this isn't my extension. You could probably ask this question in the Clothworks section of the forum over on SketchUcation - sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=69485 - Thanks
FINALLY!!!
Can you plz send clothwork plugin to my email ! I really need to use it and i do not have money !
bauer10.jj@gmail.com
Nice. How heavy does that geometry become?
I mean, obviously there's a fair amount of geometry, but it doesn't seem to be any worse than geometry created from sandbox tools (Tri-Mesh) - thanks!
TheSketchUpEssentials thanks! Will definitely give it a try
you're using this extension only with faces. is there a way to use it with objects that have a thickness?
Haven't had a chance to test that yet, so I'm not sure. Are you thinking of using it to drape different kinds of 3D geometry?
Arek Młynarczyk that is a very good question. But the answer is not at this moment but the developer is still working on this extension. You should put your request on Sketchuation in the extension comments or on his RUclips channel. He is very quick with his responses. Great guy!
I have the same question... exemple : towels wrap around hangers? :-) would it be collider thickness ???
Hey i just got a new pc its not a really expensive one, it only cost like $120. I have downloaded sketchup make to try out the program but when i created a 3d shape, it was black and a pice of it was stretched out and connected to the person that loads in when you open it. Its not just the color of the shape because I have tryed to change the color but it stays black I'm not sure what is wrong. Can you please help I would very much appreciate it. Thanks
Based on the description of your computer, you may have a graphics card issue. I'd make sure your drivers are up to date and double check that your card meets the requirements for Sketchup...
TheSketchUpEssentials your information is much appreciated, thank you
i tried to move the "pins" but that colour arrow doesnt appear!!..why??? help pls
Did you have the simulation active when you tried to move them?
I couldn't move the pins, even when activating simulation... arrows don't appear...
The plugin still works if, after i buy it, i uninstal the sketchukation plugin?
No idea - haven't tried that. Is there a reason you want to uninstall the SketchUcation extension?
TheSketchUpEssentials because I prefer to do the plugin management in a web browser and keep SU light. I don't need another data gathering app.
it's supercool ;o)
where can i obtaine it for free
I rather use marvelous designer.. but for simple stuff this is not too bad!@
Looks cool, but very expensive...
How to install this plugin .. I want this plugin sir
It's linked in the notes below the video...
wow
Thanks Michael!
I CAN NOT MOVE THE HOOKS
Moving hooks is a paid feature - not available in the free version
Um, marvelous designer maybe?
If you want to pay $50/month or more, go for it
Aww yiss
Lol - :)
